Putting the Dinah in dinosaur.

I'm sitting here watching a fresh faced lad on Fox and Friends discussing yesterday's market correction.

It's funny I look at this kid and have to laugh. He looks like he just got out of sixth grade and he is analyzing the market like he actually knew what was going on or something...he also looks a little scared.

Back in October 87, I was part of that wall street crowd that was sitting at their trading desks, staring at their screens and watching the market in freefall. It lost 23% of it's value that day so yesterday doesn't look so bad.

It was deja vu all over again as I watched yesterday afternoon's freefall and when I saw the time the nosedive started I knew that program trading was involved and once the programs kicked in, I also knew it was time to cross your fingers, say a prayer and stand back and hope that the systems would hold.

They didn't.

There was a glitch. Or two. The volume of trades processed was staggering. I read somewhere that 4 BILLION SHARES traded hands. The floor traders ended up having to use paper tickets to get trades done. This means that mountains of buy and sell orders backed up. Then the Dow Jones computers went on the lowdown and backup systems were deployed. Instant chaos resulted with a 200 pt drop in minutes, at one point plunging to over 540 points. One trader was quoted as saying "I was running around with old buy and sell orders like it was 1988!" This also means a lot of things came back as "Nothing Done."

It must have been wild!

1988. Hah. Dinah was there. And it was a freaking zoo back then.

About those "nothing done" trades? Trades were reportedly cleaned up in an extended trading session with NYSE execs 'claiming a related and isolated' system problem.

Today will be interesting to watch.

The losses were real and the market value got scalped to the tune of over $600 bil. (What goes up must come down, people.)

But I'm thinking it will be a positive open.

Somali Pirate Update

Aaarh, Matey!

Two more of the scurvy bunch were rounded up by Puntland authorities yesterday when they came into town for supplies (like duh!) but the crew and ship remain under their control. Spooked by the arrests, the remaining pirates have hauled anchor and are now headed for an unknown destination.

There is no word on the status of the US warship heading to the area.

Newsbusters has a great piece up here ripping the BBC's intellectually dishonest hooey on the situation in Somalia. A sample of their hooey:

Islamic rule was a stabilizing force in Somalia.

Oh, and about those Pirates? You can bet cash money they aren't of the Mennonite persuasion...

More Muslim Family Values

Feb 27, 2007 - THE trial of a taxi driver accused of bludgeoning his wife and three young children to death with a rounders bat began today. Manchester Crown Court heard Rahan Arshad, 36, repeatedly clubbed his family with the weapon before he fled to Thailand.

The bodies lay undiscovered at their home in Cheadle Hulme, Manchester, for almost a month. When they were discovered, all the bodies were heavily decomposed. DNA traces from all the family members were recovered from the bat and blood samples were found on the Nike trainers Arshad was wearing when he was arrested.

Opening the case for the prosecution, Paul Reid QC told the jury that much of the evidence they would hear would be distressing. He detailed how the prosecution claims Arshad killed his wife Uzma Rahan, 32, sons Adam, 11, and Abbas, eight, and daughter Henna, six, last July because he suspected his wife of having an affair.

Mr Reid told the jury the couple had an arranged marriage in 1992. Their relationship hit the rocks around Easter 2003 because Arshad believed his wife was having an affair with a married man known as Nikki.

The court heard Uzma, who worked as a dinner lady, was from Pakistan and had moved to Manchester with her husband. Arshad was described as “jealous and possessive” and disapproved of her western style clothing.

In the day before the killings Arshad showered his wife with expensive gifts.

He told the family he had booked them a holiday in Dubai but in fact had bought them no tickets. Instead Arshad booked himself a ticket to Thailand departing on July 29. The murders were expected to have taken place on the night of July 28. Arshad was stopped on August 30 at the Thailand-Malaysia border by police. When interviewed he refused to answer questions but on January 26 this year he gave a defence statement to prosecutors.

Part of this statement claimed he had returned home on July 28 to find his children dead and he believed his wife had murdered them. Arshad claimed he was provoked into bludgeoning his wife with the rounders bat because she had murdered his children.

He denies four counts of murder.

He was provoked.

W and Shaquille - together again

I would love to have been a little fly on this wall. Check out Gary Payton and his bling in the background. He looks like he is having a good time.

BTW - Shaquille means 'Little Warrior' in Arabic.

Although I think that his role in 'Kazaam" would probably earn him a fatwa in the dar al islam. And his support of Gays? Zarqawi Necktie for sure.

And who can forget his last citizen arrest?
Shaquille O'Neal - a man for the ages.

For all you patriotic NBA fans out there

The team gathers for the big shot:

W calls the Big Aristotle over for a consult.

W pulls a funny. White men can't jump - or dribble! Yum-yum, Pat Riley.

President Bush and Miami Heat owner, Micky Arison and the ever fabulous Pat Riley.

Great shots of W and the Miami Heat at today's White House ceremony honoring last year's NBA Champs. (I think they're going to have a tough time this year with Dwayne Wade's shoulder problem and unfortunately at this time in his life Shaq is shaky, but I have always hearted Pat Riley. And about The Big Diesel? When Shaq and Kobe split and left my all time favorite team the Lakers, I followed Shaq to the Heat.)

Four down, four to go: Pirates Caught off Somali coast

Pirates caught off Somali coast
Nairobi - Somali regional authorities said they had arrested four hijackers of a UN-chartered food aid ship, but four pirates were still in control of the MV Rozen off the Somali coast, the WFP reported on Monday...

The scurvy dogs are now on the run...
Authorities in the semi-autonomous northern region of Puntland arrested the men when they went ashore to buy supplies in the town of Bargal, the WFP said. The ship was anchored off the coast of northeastern Somalia on Monday, surrounded by local police boats, but it was now reportedly sailing southwards, the statement said.

US, Italian Ambassadors to Sri Lanka attacked by Tamils

US, Italian ambassadors injured by Tamils.
THE US and Italian ambassadors to Sri Lanka were wounded today in an artillery attack by suspected Tamil Tiger rebels in eastern Sri Lanka.

US ambassador Robert Blake and Italian envoy Prio Mariani were hit by shrapnel from the attack at the Batticaloa airforce base as they got off a military helicopter, Human Rights Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe said.

Mr Samarasinghe had been with the pair when the attack happened.

Mr Mariani had a head injury and was taken to the main local hospital together with 11 others, hospital director Muruganathan Moorthy told AFP.

The US ambassador had minor injuries and was being flown to Colombo.

Hoo-boy. This is rich. Update from Adn Kronos: Tamil Tiger Rebels express regret for attack on ambassadors - blame Sri Lankan army for bringing them into the war zone without telling them!

Also in Baghdad, Coalition Forces detained two suspected terrorists who have alleged ties to al-Qaeda in Iraq and anti-Coalition Forces activities.

Two suspected terrorists were detained during a raid in Mosul. Intelligence reports indicate the suspected terrorists have ties with an al-Qaeda terrorist who has coordinated attacks against Iraqi security and U.S. military personnel.

Another suspected terrorist was detained in Fallujah during a raid targeting foreign fighter facilitators.Coalition Forces detained two suspected terrorists in Tikrit who are believed to have links with terrorists involved in explosives shipments from other countries and facilitating the production of vehicle-borne IEDs.

In Ramadi, Coalition Forces netted a suspected terrorist who is allegedly involved in courier activities for al-Qaeda terrorists in Iraq.“These raids, taking place all across Iraq this morning show that Coalition Forces continue to make progress dismantling the terrorist networks,” said Lt. Col. Christopher Garver, MNF-I spokesperson.

Iraqis Reach an Accord on Oil Revenues

Wait one cotton picking minute! I thought the evil George McChimpyBushHitlerburton was stealing it for us!! Just ask the moonbats! They'll tell you all about it.

From the journal of record the NYTIMES. (Let us bow down to their superior knowledge):

BAGHDAD, Feb. 26 — The Iraqi cabinet approved a draft of a law on Monday that would set guidelines for nationwide distribution of oil revenues and foreign investment in the immense oil industry. The endorsement reflected a major agreement among the country’s ethnic and sectarian political blocs on one of Iraq’s most divisive issues.

The draft law approved by the cabinet allows the central government to distribute oil revenues to the provinces or regions based on population, which could lessen the economic concerns of the rebellious Sunni Arabs, who fear being cut out of Iraq’s vast potential oil wealth by the dominant Shiites and Kurds. Most of Iraq’s crude oil reserves lie in the Shiite south and Kurdish north.
The law also grants regional oil companies or governments the power to sign contracts with foreign companies for exploration and development of fields, opening the door for investment by foreign companies in a country whose oil reserves rank among the world’s three largest.

There are more details at the article - details of how this will be accomplished are sketchy but it sounds to me like a big fat greasy money trough where corrupt politicians and sheiks will be feasting. The UN Oil for Food program comes to mind.

Bali bans film on 2002 bombing out of fear

From The Jakarta Post:
Authorities on Bali island have banned a film about the 2002 nightclub bombings, saying allowing the movie to be shown in cinemas there would reopen old wounds.

"It is still too soon for the Balinese to watch this," said I Gusti Ngurah Gede, head of the island's film censorship board, said Sunday. "In the opinion of the board, there is no benefit in showing the film now."

"Long Road to Heaven," which has been shown at cinemas elsewhere in Indonesia, offers an unflinching look at the bombings and the motivation of the Indonesian and Malaysian Islamic militants who planned and carried them out. It was produced by one of the country's most renowned filmmakers.

The Oct. 12, 2002, suicide attacks on two packed nightclubs killed 202 people, mostly foreign tourists, and forced authorities in the world's most populous Muslim nation to confront a militant fringe some had previously denied existed.

Gede said Balinese officials, religious leaders and relatives of the victims watched the film last week and most agreed it should not be shown out of fear it may cause tensions on the resort island.

Puntland threatens to free UN ship hijacked off Somalia

Just a little reminder of the last time Somali pirates tangled with a US warship. Before and after.

The latest on the MV Rosen from SomaliNet News:

Authorities of the semi-autonomous region of Puntland in northeastern Somalia have threatened on monday that they would forcefully release the UN world Food Program chartered ship in which pirates hijacked it off Puntland coast yesterday.

Saed Mohamed Rage, the minister of ports and ocean resources in Puntland told the local media that his regional government is engaging efforts to free the ship and its crew which was anchored Bargal coast.

Mr. Rage added that Puntland would never discuss with the pirates over the hijacked ship saying that Puntland coast guard will find the pirates and free the ship without ransom. “We will not negotiate with the hijackers. We will use our force to free the ship,” he said.

He said if the pirates are caught, they would be brought before justice. Some reports say that Puntland coast guards with speedy boats surrounded the ship which is now in the international waters.

Who are the Brown Shirts of our time? The GREEN ones.

“It is the overriding world challenge of our time,” Gore said.

O Canadian Humiliation! Toeing a cultural line on the soccer field...

No hijab for you, Missy...

Rules forbid hijab, says Quebec Soccer Federation

The ejection of an 11-year-old Muslim girl from a soccer game has reignited Quebec’s debate over reasonable accommodation for minorities, even prompting comments from Premier Jean Charest.

Quebec’s soccer federation said Asmahan Mansour of Ottawa was given the choice of taking off her hijab or not playing in a Sunday tournament in nearby Laval. It says the hijab violated a no-headgear rule set down by the sport’s governing body for safety reasons.

But others have slammed the referee’s decision, saying it’s just another example of how Quebec is trying to get immigrants to toe a cultural line. The Quebec Soccer Federation also confirmed the referee is a Muslim.

Oh! The Humiliation!
Maria Mansour, the girl’s mother, was shocked and saddened by Sunday’s incident, which “humiliated” her daughter. She told CBC Radio that she thought the incident was racially motivated.

“Strongly, I do think so, because soccer is soccer whether it’s in Ontario or Quebec or Europe and it’s not right at all to not allow a Muslim girl who’s proud of her religion to play soccer, a sport she loves so much,” Mansour said. “It took a lot out of me to see my daughter in the middle being humiliated in front of a lot of people.”

The Muslim party line:
The Muslim Council of Montreal said the Ontario Soccer Association allows players to wear religious clothing on the field and urged the Quebec federation to respect the religious rights of its players.

Oh, the absolute horror!
“Asking minority groups to integrate cannot be equated with forcing them to assimilate and stripping them of their identity and rights,” said council spokesman Salam Elmenyawi.

The Montreal Muslim council also criticized Charest, saying he failed to address the issue properly and “sided with the decision of the referee.”

What nerve! Siding with decision of the referee as opposed to the decision of what? The Sharia courts? Feh.

Fourteen years ago today-

1993 World Trade Center Bombing.

How freaky is this?
"It felt like an airplane hit the building, Bruce Pomper, eyewitness"

I remember this day fourteen years ago because a friend of mine was having lunch at Windows of The World. She was heavily pregnant, eight months gone and ended up walking ALL THE WAY DOWN, breathing heavy, thick black smoke each step of the way. They kept her in the hospital for observation for a day, gave her some oxygen and pinked her up.

She and the baby were fine, thank God.

Just think about all the havoc caused by the Religion of Peace since then.

Bonus on this day: In 1991 Iraqi troops were fleeing Kuwait City.

Commission asks - When did you last beat your Saudi wife?

Commission proposed to protect women and children in Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia is studying the establishment of a nationwide system under which a supreme commission would be established to protect women and children from violence.

The proposal, prepared by the King Khaled Charitable Society, has been forwarded by the Ministry of Social Affairs to the Council of Ministers, according to Dr. Maha Al-Muneef, president of the National Family Safety Program in the National Guard Hospital.

“This system, if it is established, would have wide legislative powers to make laws and regulations to eradicate and combat violence against women and children,” she told Arab News.

Al-Muneef admitted that violence against women and children “was on the rise in the Kingdom.” I found these comments from the Arab Child Health conference revealing.

Dr. Samia Halileh from the Institute of Community and Public Health, Bir Zeit University in Ramallah, Palestine, presented a paper, “Violence and Negligence of Children in Occupied Palestinian Areas.”

She said physical abuse heads the list of problems among Palestinian children; it is followed by psychological, general and sexual abuse in that order.

Dr. Pamela Beih from Morocco said child abuse was rampant in the Arab world and blamed social taboos and local traditions.

It's so funny to watch these folks do everything but stand on their heads to avoid to calling it for what it is...

Four - no make that 3 French nationals shot in Saudi

Update from a 7:01am February 27, 2007 report: Fourth Frenchman dies after Saudi attack.

Update from an 11:58am al-Reuters report: Three French nationals shot dead.

Guess who?

From al-Reuters

Four French nationals, some of them Muslims, were shot dead in Saudi Arabia on Monday in what appeared to be a militant attack, state television said.

It said a group of eight French nationals came under fire near the town of Tabuk in the northwest of the vast desert country as they were heading to the holy city of Mecca for a pilgrimage.

Two of the group died at the scene and two others died later in hospital, the report said. The group include four women and a child but it was not clear if they were among the dead.

Saudi Interior Ministry spokesmen were not available for comment.

Militants swearing allegiance to al Qaeda launched a violent campaign to topple the U.S.-allied Saudi monarchy in 2003, with suicide bomb attacks on foreigners and government installations including the oil industry.

There had been no major attacks targeting foreigners since 2004, when the campaign was at its height.

Muslim Cleric gets the UK boot!

From the UK Telegraph:

Radical Muslim preacher Abu Qatada today lost his appeal against deportation from Britain. The hardline cleric, believed to have close ties with Al-Qa'eda in Britain, will be sent back to Jordan after John Reid, the Home Secretary, won his legal battle against him.

Attack of the Killer Infidel Tomatoes

From the Energizer Bunny of the blogosphere, Gateway Pundit:

Iran’s president said on Sunday the country’s enemies had hatched a range of plots to push the Islamic Republic to give up its disputed nuclear programme, including driving up the price of tomatoes and other food.

Mahmoud adds the bulldozer to his nuclear powered speeding train with no brakes arsenal in the fight against Iranian inflationery problems:

Of course, God willing, the problem of meat, chicken and tomatoes will be solved. One should be aware that our revolution is like a bulldozer ... the enemies think by throwing a few small stones and sand they can stop this bulldozer,” Ahmadinejad said.

Janjaweed act up. Send in the Ganjaweed gals - Drew and Cameron?

From VOA: Clashes erupt among Sudanese Arabs.

Schoolchildren in Singita village, south Darfur, sing a song at the start of the school day. They sing, "Oh, bird, I am not a sniper, don't fly away from me." Perhaps strange words for a song for small children, but even the youngest in Darfur have witnessed unspeakable violence during four years of conflict in the region.

Violent attacks by Arab nomads known as janjaweed have terrorized this land since 2003.

But now the janjaweed are fighting among themselves AND fighting the Africans. The latest incident? A massacre in the village of Amar Jadeed. A day earlier in a neighboring (and different tribal) village four young boys were shot execution style as they slept.

AU peacekeepers drove 26 kilometers to the village(Amar Jadeed), but arrived at the scene of the attack several hours after it happened. The village was in ashes, with small fires still smoldering. Twenty nine bodies were stacked in the bed of a truck for burial in a nearby cemetery. Three young children had already been laid in the ground. Men sat astride camels preparing for another attack while women gathered in a group and wept.

About those AU peacekeepers? To use the immortal words of one former Wall Street bond trader, they're just about as 'good as tits on a trashcan'...
Back at Amar Jadeed, African Union peacekeepers take notes for a report on the incident, but in the distance gunfire erupts again. The villagers, on their way to camps for the displaced in Kaas come fleeing back over the hills. The African Union peacekeepers run for their patrol trucks. Their mandate forbids them from stepping in between fighting forces. They are allowed to raise arms only in self-defense.

They argue over whether to go back to the village, but decide against it. The people of Amar Jadeed are left to their own fate.

Aaarh, Matey! US Warships head for vessel hijacked off Somalia

US Warships head for vessel hijacked off Somalia by pirates

What was the cargo? UN food aid.
Gunmen wielding AK-47s stormed the Kenyan-owned MV Rozen on Sunday, taking hostage its six Kenyan and six Sri Lankan crew after intercepting the freighter by speedboat. It was the third hijacking in two years of a ship hired to carry relief supplies by the U.N.'s World Food Programme (WFP). Penny Ferguson, WFP spokeswoman in neighboring Kenya, said the United Nations understood the vessel was anchored off Bargal, a port in Somalia's semi-autonomous Puntland region.

"We also understand a U.S. warship is heading to that area but that it is still in international waters," Ferguson said. "There has been no contact yet from the pirates and our biggest concern remains for the safety of the crew."

The ship, chartered by WFP from Mombasa-based Motaku Shipping Agency, was seized after unloading 1,800 metric tonnes of food aid at two northern Somali ports. Somali pirates seized three Motaku vessels in 2005, holding one and its crew hostage for nearly 100 days. Two of those ships had been carrying WFP cargoes.

The culprits? The usual suspects.
Experts say a band of pirates based in Harardheere port have regrouped and are thought to have been behind Sunday's attack and two unsuccessful hijacking attempts earlier this year.

Their M.O.? The usual.
The pirates use speedboats equipped with satellite phones and GPS equipment. They are typically armed with automatic weapons, anti-tank rocket launchers and grenades, according to the UN Monitoring Group on Somalia.

On a personal note: My grandfather was in the merchant marine. He crewed on a ESSO oil tanker and frequently sailed off the Horn of Africa...

Woman Bomber kills 41 at Baghdad college.

Her evil handiwork:

The blast flung blood-soaked notebooks and backpacks among the lifeless bodies and wounded. Cement walls were pockmarked by the hail of ball bearings. Parents rushed to the site and some collapsed in tears after learning their children were killed or injured. Students used rags and towels to try to mop up the blood.

Of course, Mooktada al-Sadr had to step up to the mike and blame the US. He doesn't appear in public to say this - no, he's still in hiding somewhere (hopefully getting some much needed dentistry work done). The leader speaks. ( and I'm wondering if it's with a lisp.)
"Here we are, watching car bombs continue to explode to harvest thousands of innocent lives from our beloved people in the middle of a security plan controlled by an occupier," said a statement read to hundreds of cheering supporters by an al-Sadr aide in Baghdad..."

"To my Shiite and Sunni brothers, I say, `Let us scorn sectarianism and hoist the banner of unity,'" said the statement from al-Sadr, whose militia is blamed for frequent execution-style slayings of Sunni rivals.Since the security crackdown began, the number of bodies thought to be victims of Shiite death squads has gone down dramatically in Baghdad, but there has been no respite from violence blamed on Sunni insurgents."
To all my Shiite and Sunni brothers, I say, "Let us scorn Islamic fundamentalism and hoist the banner of Iraqi democracy, liberty and freedom."

Oh, and about that NOW business? Just kidding.

Cameron and Drew: so oppressed under Bushitler's rule

I would be remiss if I didn't include this in our Oscar Night Hollyweird Special... courtesy of Hollywood Grind. More photos at the site...

BFF Cameron Diaz and Drew Barrymore spent some time together in Hawaii, and they just couldn’t help but smoke some pot on the beach.

Surreal flashbacks and deja vu

James Taylor and Randy Newman. I don't think I can do anymore of this. Hollyweird is so out of it to me. Okay a moonbat triple banger. The gay girl tuxedo look, breast cancer survivor and inconvenient truth.. This is so pitiful to me. Like those Palestinian telethons you hear about. Such genuine outrage and oh my god they have the global warming propaganda scroll running in the background. I fear for western civ. Ack! al-Gore and Leo

How are the Academy Awards voted on?

Oscar Night Hollyweird Special

It's from the ever questionable and now actionable wICKipedia but it's about Hollyweird so it's probably close enough for the Academy...

Nominations

Today, according to Rules 2 and 3 of the official Academy Awards Rules, a film has to open in the previous calendar year (from midnight at the start of January 1 to midnight at the end of December 31) in Los Angeles County, California, to qualify.[7]Rule 2 states that a film must be "feature-length" (defined as at least 40 minutes) to qualify for an award (except for Short Subject awards). It must also exist either on a 35mm or 70mm film print OR on a 24fps or 48fps progressive scan digital film print with a native resolution no lower than 1280x720.
The members of the various branches nominate those in their respective fields (actors are nominated by the actors' branch, etc.) while all members may submit nominees for Best Picture. The winners are then determined by a second round of voting in which all members are then allowed to vote in all categories.

Bonus Oscar liveblogging...mercifully it's only a half hour show
I am watching the AbC's Road to the Red Carpet and may I say that Andre Leon Talley of Vogue should be ashamed of himself. Jennifer Hudson did not need the Batwing treatment. Why am I reminded of Gone With The Wind and Mammy with her red silk petticoarts. Did you know Al Sharpton was related to Strom Thurmond. Did you know al-Sharpton also calls for unity at National Islam Conference. OMG - I'm watching Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Patricia Fields now and getting TART BURN. Cameron Diaz. Unmade bed syndrome. Penelope Cruz. Great gal. Great dress. Not the best do for her. Oh no - not Andre Leon again. Lisa Ling is so great on National Geographic. Not so great here. Cate Blanchett looks fantastic. Great hair, dress and makeup - the total package. Ryan Gosling is a great actor and he is a funny guy. This whole thing is so silly to me. Yet here I am, checking it out. Kate Winslet. Pretty and professional. I'd love to get a close up of those earrings. Lisa Ling cutting her off. Helen Mirren. I'm sorry I just don't love her dress. She needs to cover up those old lady chicken breasts with something sheer - otherwise she's a gorgeous dame...Andre's here. Get the hook. Do this year's Oscars seem distinctly lacking in glamour and style? Yikes. And I don't like them being so early in the year either. Sign me. Hollyweirded out.

Back to reality.

Bonus liveblogging:
I didn't get off here before Ellen came on - can I just say that I am so over that gay girl tuxedo thing. And the white shoe thing - please. Titanic Asshole...becomes Christian Truther

Oscar Night Hollyweird Special

We all pretty much knew that James Cameron, the Hollyweird director of Titanic was a titanic asshole. But did you know he is now an official "Christian Truther" too?

Read this Pims' Ghost post over at Maverick about his latest documentary attempt to debunk Christianity and get prepared to gag.

Cameron is holding a New York press conference on Monday at which he will reveal three coffins, supposedly those of Jesus of Nazareth, his mother Mary and Mary Magdalene.

And may I sincerely say to Jim's ex-wife Linda Hamilton (my idol in The Terminator Series) I hope you are relishing his 50 million dollars, honey because that divorce settlement (2nd largest in Hollyweird history) couldn't have happened to a better guy.

Angelina: Ready for Foreign Relations...

Oscar Night Hollyweird Special

From the NY POST: Angelina, A Babe Amid Brainiacs
The prestigious Council on Foreign Relations is about to get a jolt of sex appeal. The exclusive, Manhattan-based foreign-policy group has decided to admit actress Angelina Jolie, a U.N. goodwill ambassador who has taken more than 30 trips worldwide to advocate for refugees, AIDS orphans and disaster victims. On Friday night, the council's membership accepted Jolie's nomination - meaning she will soon be rubbing elbows with other club members such as Dick Cheney, Condoleezza Rice, Henry Kissinger, Colin Powell and Alan Greenspan.

The group requires no academic credentials (ed. note: Angelina has a high school diploma.) but looks for members who take part in world affairs. Many current members call Jolie qualified and support her induction. "Bring her on," said Dr. Gordon Adams, an international-affairs professor. "The idea of having Henry Kissinger and Angelina Jolie in the same organization is dazzling." Member Carol Adelman, former head of U.S. foreign-aid programs, said, "It's not like Paris Hilton is being nominated."

Angelina's also just been named "SEXIEST INDIVIDUAL IN HISTORY."

"Jolie's former girlfriend Jenny Shimziu tells the programme, the 100 Greatest Sex Symbols: "I don't think there's one person that would say no to Angelina, in bed or just having a cup of coffee with her."

Aah! Hollyweird.

Hey Indonesia - next tsunami? Call Hamas for Aid and Comfort why don't you?

The Jakarta Post: Jakarta to host meeting between Hamas and West
In an effort to help Hamas convey its vision on the Middle East and persuade Western countries to end its economic blockade of the Palestinian government, Indonesia has invited representatives from Hamas, the U.S. and Europe to hold talks in Jakarta next month. (Hamas vision: A world without Israel and America.)

Foreign Ministry spokesman Desra Percaya said Friday that Hamas must be involved in any process aimed at solving the Palestinian internal conflicts as well as the Palestine-Israel war, since the party got the majority of votes in the last election. (A Jimmuh Carter certified election, too!)

"Beside, Hamas' voice on the solution to the conflict has never been directly heard by the others. The forum will be used for this purpose," said Desra, who is also the ministry's director for international security and disarmament. (Yes. By all means, let's give those terror-cidal maniacs a voice. Hmm. Director for Intl Security and disarmament, you say? Tell me sir, isn't that just a tad oxymoronic?)

Indonesia, he said, had received assurances from Syrian-based Hamas leader Khaled Meshaal that he would send envoys to Jakarta for the talks. (Hopefully, they will leave their bombs at home.)

Desra did not give an exact date for the meeting but said it would take place before the end of March. He added that Indonesia would also try to influence Hamas policies in order to end the Western economic embargo and win the release of tax revenue to the Palestinian government.
(blah-blah-blah)

Desra said Western countries had frozen the funds because they wanted Hamas to renounce violence, recognize Israel, and pledge to respect previous agreements. "We would like to help on these three aspects. The meeting is important and relevant because we don't think the three issues will be solved anytime soon. Khaled Meshaal has made clear the importance and relevance of the dialog," he said. (more blah-blah-blah)
...

Hamas took control of the Palestinian government in March after winning parliamentary elections. The U.S.-led boycott of the Hamas-led government has pushed the Palestinian Authority to the brink of financial collapse and raised poverty rates in the Gaza Strip and occupied West Bank. A report by the UN World Food Program, released Thursday, estimated that nearly half of Palestinians were unable to produce or acquire the food they needed. (I think they're too busy blowing up Jews for that)

Leiberman to Dems: Join the GOP? Maybe.

It's from Newsmax. Consider the source.

Sen. Joseph Lieberman of Connecticut fired a shot across the bow of the Senate's Democratic majority, warning them he may bolt the party and join the GOP if Congress votes to withhold funding for the war in Iraq.

The move would give Republicans control of the Senate, since Democrats hold the majority by one vote.

Lieberman, who calls himself an "independent Democrat," has been among the strongest supporters of the war on terror and President Bush's plan for a troop surge in Iraq.

"I have no desire to change parties," Lieberman said in an interview published Thursday on politico.com. "If that ever happens, it is because I feel the majority of Democrats have gone in a direction that I don't feel comfortable with."

Lieberman cited the upcoming showdown over new funding for the war could be a deciding factor that would lure him to the GOP. Several Democrats, led by Massachusetts Sen. Ted Kennedy, have been agitating for a funding cut-off.

"I hope we don't get to that point," he said. "That's about all I will say on it today. That would hurt."

But it would sure help the country, Joe.

And I don't know how in the heck I missed it.

Four Swedes have been arrested in Somalia on suspicion of possibly having fought alongside Islamic militants, but the four have not yet been charged, Swedish officials told CNN.

"Four Swedes have been arrested in connection with the unrest in Somalia," Swedish Foreign Ministry spokesman Andre Mkandawire told CNN.
Three of the four were Swedish citizens, while the fourth had permanent residency status, said Mkandawire. "But all four are being treated equally as Swedes."

"...It is not clear precisely where, when and by whom the four have been detained. Jens Odlander -- Sweden's ambassador for the Somali peace process who is based in the Swedish Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya -- said the four apparently were seized as they were fleeing a war zone, possibly in early January. No charges have been filed against the four detained people at the present time, Odlander told CNN from Nairobi...Two were in bad health when they were seized, and one of them had been held in Kenya for a while.

Odlander said there are ongoing talks on the detentions, but would not provide more details about them, saying the diplomatic situation is very sensitive at the moment.

Maybe this will help:

Sweden has decided to be involved in helping Somalia's war-wracked economy and infrastructure. The Swedish government said on Monday it would give Somalia's transitional government financial aid for its long-term development -- about $7 million for 2007, and humanitarian aid amounting to $14 million.

NY Times Fabricates Ethiopia report - Dinah smells a rat.

Ethiopian Adviser Says Times Fabricated Report.

A senior Ethiopian official yesterday denied a report in The New York Times detailing the close and largely clandestine collaboration between Ethiopia and the United States to kill or capture leaders of Al Qaeda in the Horn of Africa.

U.S. Used Base in Ethiopia to Hunt Al Qaeda (February 23, 2007)
“The New York Times has fabricated this story, and if there is any Pentagon official whom they are quoting, then that official does not have the slightest knowledge of the region or Ethiopia,” Bereket Simon, a close adviser to Prime Minister Meles Zenawi, told Reuters.

The Times report, published yesterday, chronicled how the American military had provided the Ethiopians with intelligence on the whereabouts of Islamic militants in Somalia and described how American AC-130 gunships had conducted strikes on Qaeda suspects using an airstrip in eastern Ethiopia.

The article was based on interviews with American officials, who agreed to discuss the collaboration because they saw it as relatively successful in disrupting terrorist networks in the region.

2nd Iraqi army rape allegation: Al Qaeda vows revenge with...

300 Suicide bombers...

"Go ahead with Allah's blessing and engulf their checkpoints
in fire, destroy their homes, and spill their blood to flow as streams,"

This from The al-Qaida in Iraq leader, Abu Hamza al-Muhajir, also known as Abu Ayyub al-Masri and buried clear at the bottom of this Deseret News article: US Soldiers in Iraq find car bomb factory.

Abu is talking about the second rape allegation leveled against Iraqi forces this week. Are we seeing a trend? Too soon to call but you might want to check out the details of the first case here: Duke Rape Case Iraqi style?

About the second assault:
Also Thursday, an Iraqi official said four Iraqi soldiers were accused of raping a 50-year-old Sunni woman and the attempted rape of her two daughters — the second allegation of sexual assault leveled against Iraqi forces this week.

Brig. Gen. Nijm Abdullah said the alleged attack took place about 10 days ago in the northern city of Tal Afar during a search for weapons and insurgents. A lieutenant and three enlisted men denied the charge but later confessed after they were confronted by the woman, a Turkoman, Abdullah said. He said a fifth soldier suspected something was wrong, burst into the house and forced the others at gunpoint to stop the assault.

A second rape allegation within a single week is likely to undermine further the reputation of Iraq's security services, which the U.S. hopes can take over from coalition troops so the Americans and their allies can go home.

The al-Qaida in Iraq leader, Abu Hamza al-Muhajir, also known as Abu Ayyub al-Masri, purportedly called on his followers to step up attacks on Iraqi security forces to avenge the alleged rapes.

He also claimed in an audio tape that 300 followers have volunteered for suicide missions within hours of hearing news of the alleged rape in Baghdad, which the woman said took place in a police garrison.

The authenticity of the tape has not yet been verified.

Funny. You don't see 300 Duke Lacrosse players lining up to strap on suicide belts in the wake of the Duke rape case, do you?

Bingo! Iraqi Car Bomb factory busted. Chlorine gas found.

Remember this item crossposted over at Maverick?

Dirty Bombers: Poisonous Gas in Iraq

And remember how I hoped that our troops would be able to put the bombers and their evil boom-boom room out of commission ASAP?

Well, bless their hearts. It looks like they might have done that very thing...

From the Deseret News: US soldiers in Iraq find car bomb factory.
"The raid on the car bomb factory occurred late Tuesday in the volatile western province of Anbar, U.S. authorities said. U.S. troops discovered a pickup truck and three other vehicles that were being prepared as car bombs, as well as detonation material in five buildings. "We also found ingredients to be used to devise or enhance explosives, such as fertilizer and chlorine cylinders," Odierno(Lt. Gen Ray, our #2 man in Iraq) told Pentagon reporters by video-link."

Oh, great. The islamoCOWards had fertilizer, too.

About chlorine gas:
"With low levels of exposure, chlorine, which was used as a weapon in World War I, can cause breathing problems and irritate the skin. At high levels, it is fatal."

About UN weapon expert David Kay and chlorine:
"Experts say chlorine is used as a disinfectant and is widely available in Iraq, which the U.N. long suspected of trying to build a chemical weapons arsenal. But former U.N. weapons inspector David Kay said U.N. experts paid little attention to "garden variety" industrial-grade chemicals such as fertilizers and chlorine unless they were found in large quantities or near weapons plants. Major cities such as Baghdad stocked chlorine for water treatment."

Bad Karmah:
"The discovery of the car bomb factory Tuesday took place in the town of Karmah, 50 miles west of the capital."

BONUS ISLAMOPERPS: In the interview the general also indicated that at least two suspects have been arresting in the downing of 8 (!) helicopters. Details remain sketchy but if true, this would be EXCELLENT news. Stay tuned....

No way! Doctors call Padilla unfit for terrorism trial

It looks like he's eating good!
I call total B.S. on this.
Doctors Call Padilla Unfit for Terrorism Trial.

MIAMI (Reuters) - Former "enemy combatant" Jose Padilla is mentally unfit to stand trial on terrorism charges and physically unable to tell his lawyers what happened to him in a U.S. military prison, doctors who examined him for the defense said in court on Thursday.
The doctors testified that Padilla, held by presidential order for 3-1/2 years in a military brig without being charged, is also unable to tell his lawyers anything about the time he spent in Afghanistan and Egypt, where the government alleges he conspired with Islamist terrorists to maim and murder people.

If asked to review taped conversations that will be used as evidence, he breaks into a sweat, hunches over and rocks back and forth, the doctors said.

"He hits a stone wall and his logic shuts down," said Dr. Angela Hegarty, a neuropsychiatrist who examined Padilla in his Miami jail cell. "His overwhelming anxiety interferes with his reasoning."

Bummer. Dennis Johnson, Star NBA Guard dies...

Per the WSJ.

AUSTIN, Texas -- Dennis Johnson, the star NBA guard who was part of three championship teams, died Thursday at 52.

Behind every Islamic terrorist there is an Imam

Finally! I've worked my way down through the Tower of Power reading pile at my bedside to begin Oriana Fallaci's, THE RAGE AND THE PRIDE. I started reading it last night and let me tell you this jumped off the page at me. I have a feeling there will be a lot of those:

"The Imam is a leading figure who directs and administers his community with full authority and power. Pious Throat-Cutter or not, virtuous Bleeder or not, he is a high priest who manipulates and influences without any limit the minds and actions of his followers.

An agit-prop who during the Friday Prayer flings any sort of political messages. All the so-called Revolutions of Islam Began through the Imams in the mosques, and the so-called Iranian Revolution began through the Imams in the mosques. Not the Universities as the aforesaid grandchidren (ed. note: deniers and appeasers of communism and fascism - sounds like the lefties would be included as well.) want us to believe. Behind every Islamic terrorist there is an Imam, and Khomeini was an imam.

The major leaders of Iran were and are Imams (too many) are spiritual guides of terrorism. Thus, morally speaking, terrorists themselves."
Which brings us to the longtime imam of Somalia's largest mosque, Sheikh Abdirahman Abdi Ulusow. He was detained today.

"The Sheikh is widely respected for his religious knowledge and for taking care of the Isbahaysiga Mosque during the civil war era, said people close to him. Other detained individuals include an instructor at a local college and another sheikh who was closely associated with the ousted Islamist movement. Speaking on the condition of anonymity, government security sources informed Garowe Online that the individuals were arrested for questioning in connection with near daily attacks in Mogadishu.

The status of the Religion of Cut-And-Run-And-Then-Conduct-Cowardly-Attacks:
The Somali government claims more than 3,000 Islamist fighters remained underground in the capital after their leaders and other militia forces withdrew from the city in December, as heavily armed Ethiopian combat troops approached. A Somali Islamist group calling itself “Muqaawama” (aka: The Popular Resistance Movement in the Land of Two Migrations)has claimed responsibility for the rising violence. The same group threatened suicide attacks against African Union peacekeepers if they deployed in Somalia.

Good news: There's somebody out there that gets it. Somali pres sees no difference between moderates, radicals.
Somalia’s interim president has once again dismissed any negotiation between his government and the recently ousted Islamic Courts movement. In a Tuesday interview with Yemeni media, President Abdullahi Yusuf said he makes no distinction between “moderate” and “radical” elements within the Islamists.

“I believe that the leaders of the Islamic Courts are criminals who committed crimes against the nation and the population, therefore how can I talk to such people?”

Update: Before I finished posting this came across the wire:
Somalia Imam Regains His Freedom
The imam of Somalia’s largest mosque was released later Thursday after authorities held him for nearly 24 hours, our correspondent in Mogadishu reported...Sheikh Abdirahman said another member of the Isbahaysiga Mosque, Sheikh Abdiwahab Abdullahi Hashi, was still in jail.

al-Ace is the place with the Hateful Hardware Guy

About the Muslim Shooter of Zil-e-Huma (pretty, wasn't she?) He owns a hardware store. Oh, and is "fired by a passion to purge society of women who defy Islamic customs."

I killed her because she was un-Islamic.

Muhammad Sarwar, the killer belongs to Ahle Hadith, a local religious vigilante group, and had allegedly killed four prostitutes in 2002, but who was acquitted for want of evidence.

About Ahl-Hadith: (source:wICKipedia. editing:Dinah) Ahl Hadith is an Islamic school of thought emerging in South Asia in the 1830's. Its members reject the Sunni schools of Islamic law emphasizing what members say are the original principles of Islam ala the Salafists.

I guess that's what the police meant when they said this about the hateful hardware guy:

"Police said that Sarwar has "his own interpretation of Islam". Sarwar told interrogators that he was fired by a passion to purge society of women who defy Islamic customs. "

More about those Middle Class Islamic family values:
"Sarwar owns a hardware shop in Gujranwala and has nine children - four sons and five daughters. He had ordered his wife and daughters to stay at home and veil their faces."

Oh, and about Ahl-i Hadith?
"There is an active branch in Great Britain with over forty mosques and community centres throughout the country. Members established a head office in Birmingham since 1975.

With tentacles back to Pakistan:
There is a central executive committee (Majlis-e Amal) which seeks to guide the Ahl-i Hadith establishment in Pakistan.

I think the Pakistan crowd's site is here.

The UK bunch is here. According to their site they are living in the Dar-ul-Harb and loving it. They state:
Islam is also the basis of the civilisation and the politics of the state. The teachings of Islam provide guidelines for the betterment of life, in this world as well as life in the hereafter. Islam does not inculcate in it's followers priesthood and celibacy. It is not an escape from the material life or it's difficultis (sic)and comforts. Islam is not a faith which allows it's followers to be blindly faithful to the inherited customs and the primitive rites of the ancestors.

They even have their own constitution:
Markazi Jamiat Ahl-e-Hadith has its own Constitution which outlines the ways and methods to be adopted by the Jamiat for furthering its objective.

And they proudly state: This constitution is accepted and recognised by the Charity Commission. I was able to find two organizations. This one. And this one.

This is wrong on so many levels.

Mali's ex-rebels to fight terrorism

BAMAKO, February 22 -- Former Tuareg rebels in Mali will form special police units to combat terrorism and weapons trafficking in their country's northern deserts, according to a peace deal with the Malian government finalised in Algiers, state news agency reported on Wednesday.

Military units made up of Tuareg nomads will patrol Mali's northern deserts and scrubland, the haunt of armed groups believed to co-operate with the former Salafist Group for Call and Combat, also known as GSPC, Algeria's APS news agency reported on Tuesday.

Western and North African governments believe the GSPC, an al-Qaeda affiliate that last month changed its name to al-Qaeda in North Africa, is seeking to work more closely with other Islamic militants around the region.

The Malian government and the former rebel group, which is known as the May 23 2006 Alliance for Democratic Change, agreed to the new police force and other measures that finalized their peace deal.

They hammered out an initial deal in July, also in Algeria. Mali's large northern neighbour has quietly mediated in the conflict since it erupted in May 2006.

The peace deal committed the government to step up development of three northern centres - Kidal, Gao and Timbuktu, officials said, and the desert rebels to drop autonomy demands.

The nomadic Tuaregs led a rebellion in the early 1990s to protest what they claim is the government's failure to develop the poor northern regions, but many were later integrated into the army as part of the initial peace deal.

Algeria has helped establish a camp in Kidal, where at least 3 000 Tuareg troops will undergo training. An international forum in the province is slated for March with the goal of drumming up funding for the project. - Sapa

About the Tuareg?

The Tuareg people are predominently nomadic people of the Sahara desert, mostly in the Northern reaches of Mali near Timbuktu and Kidal. The Tuareg are often referred to as "Blue Men of the desert " - because their robes are dyed indigo blue. They live in small tribes with between 30 and 100 family members and keep camels, goats, cattle and chicken which graze the land. They are a proud race of people, famous for their fighting abilities and artwork, now staring urbanisation and resettlement in the face. The sword is a Tuareg's most valued possession. Many are passed from generation to generation and said to be protected by the victories of its past owners.

Some examples of their artwork. And about those Swords. Check it out.

The Religion of Paid Busybodies?

Oh boy. The Malaysian chapter of the Religion of Peace and Paid Sex Spies, or Mat Skoding as they say, are on a roll with their "ingenuous plan" to:

"...avert soaring cases of close proximity and vice here, the Terengganu Government has initiated an ingenious plan where “Mat Skoding” or spies will be recruited to tip-off the state religious department of immoral activities. “Mat Skoding” will be part of the voluntary squad, under the guidance of state religious advisors, acting as vigilantes here. State Islam Hadhari and Welfare Committee chairman Datuk Rosol Wahid said: “Some of these ‘spies’ could be waitresses or even janitors at hotels acting as auxiliary undercover agents for our religious department.”

The “Mat Skoding” would be rewarded for their tip-offs, he told The Star here yesterday.
Rosol said the trained “spies” would be on the lookout for unmarried couples behaving suspiciously or for vice activities throughout the state. “Accurate details are required for the enforcement officers to act, otherwise they would be pouncing on married couples,” he said.
Rosol said the “spies” would keep surveillance at parks and secluded areas to nab dating couples intending to engage in sex.

They busted in on this American couple, (aged 62 and 61) in their vacation condo back in October.

It's Thursday, February 22 in Malaysia now and the authorities are doing a little bit of backtracking. Don't worry they assure us - they're going to be spying on Muslims only.

Yeah, right.

Cough Syrup and Narcotics, Amulets and Charms: Muslim holy warriors get ready to kill

Suspected Muslim insurgents set fire to Thai-Malaysia rubber warehouse
BANGKOK: Suspected Muslim insurgents in southern Thailand set fire Wednesday to a large warehouse for rubber jointly owned by Malaysians and Thais. Smoke blanketed large areas of Yala province as more than 30 fire trucks struggled to douse the flames, police Col. Col. Phumphet Pipatpetphum said. The fire followed a bold, coordinated assault by separatist rebels which killed eight people and wounded nearly 70 in a 24-hour period beginning Sunday night. Three people were arrested shortly after the attacks, Lt. Gen. Viroj Buajaroon, regional commander for the south, said Tuesday....

Who were these brave, cough syrup swilling, charm carrying "insurgents' ?
Viroj said it was still unclear which group was responsible for Sunday's attacks - which included 29 bombings within 45 minutes - but the three arrested suspects had linked the violence to an Islamic militant group and given information about others involved. He said some were trained by a group known as Runda Kumpulan Kecil, but declined to provide more details. The shadowy organization is believed by some terrorism experts to refer more to an informal network of separatists who allegedly received indoctrination and training in Indonesia. The insurgents have not announced their goals, but are believed to be fighting for a separate state under Islamic administration. Viroj said the suspects carried amulets and charms on their bodies and took narcotics and cough syrup to bolster their courage before carrying out the attacks.

The impact:
The fire at the largest rubber warehouse in Yala, owned by the Southern Land Rubber Co., a joint venture between Thai and Malaysian businessmen, started shortly after midnight and it was still burning more than eight hours later. Kiert Kitikulseritham, the company manager, said all 400 tons of rubber sheets were believed to have been destroyed, with losses estimated at 400 million baht (US$11.8 million; euro9 million). He said the company's 500 workers may lose their jobs. "We will discuss what to do next but I think we may have to shut down the company because there is no safety here. We risk both life and property from the ongoing violence,'' Kiert told reporters... Rubber production is one of the few viable industries in the rural provinces of southern Thailand and the Yala company was the only major smoked rubber sheet enterprise in the deep south.

Remember Daniel Maldonado, the All-American jihadi...

nabbed as he was fleeing Somalia along with all of his Islamic Courts Union buddies?

FBI asked to show more evidence on US terror suspect.

A U.S. federal court ordered the FBI on Tuesday to show more evidence against a U.S. citizen accused of training with al Qaeda militants in Somalia and delayed ruling on whether he can be held without bail, Reuters reports.

The government also alleges Daniel Joseph Maldonado, also known as Daniel Aljughaifi, "conspired to use a weapon of mass destruction" but has yet to provide evidence that he built or possessed a bomb...

At the preliminary hearing, his lawyer Brent Newton said the government had not made its case to hold and prosecute Maldonado and had not given enough information to test the evidence.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Gary Cobe countered that Newton had all the information the law required this early in a case. But U.S. Magistrate Calvin Botley extended the hearing.

"I want to be fair to both sides," Botley said, adding he intended to rule on whether there was probable cause to continue holding Maldonado no later than Wednesday.

There's more background here at KHOU.com. Here's the juicy part.
The feds say Maldonado received extensive training in explosives from an individual called “The Bomb Maker” who assembled, produced and tested improvised explosive devices. “The Bomb Maker” frequently talked about knowing and speaking with Osama bin Laden.

Maldonado also allegedly received training on TNT and nitrates from this man.

The feds said Maldonado was willing to fight on behalf of al-Qaida, and that he even offered to be a suicide bomber if he was wounded in battle and was no longer able to fight on the front lines...

According to the complaint, Maldonado was provided an AK-47, equipped with military combat uniforms and boots in Mogadishu, and participated in training camps in Kismaayo and Jilib. The camps included physical fitness, firearms and explosives training — all in preparation to go to the front to fight for the ICU.

Al-Qaida members were allegedly present at the training camp.

Maldonado was captured by the Kenyan military on Jan. 21 as he fled to avoid Ethiopian and Somalian forces, according to federal agents.

You know, I bet this character thought he was some big, tough, badass mo-huncher. Isn't it a shame he got caught running like a yellow bellied dog with his tail tucked between his legs. Not only that, he had his three kids in tow. His poor wife? She died of malaria while following his jihad with him. What a man!

I sure hope the feds have what it takes to put this guy out of commission until he goes through Criminal Menopause.

Death to America! Death to Indian Idol???

Yikes, and we thought Simon Cowell was harsh.

From
Zee News: No leniency to be shown to those who defy ban."

Srinagar, Feb 19: Notwithstanding threat by a militant group, a private television channel is going ahead with an audition for boys and girls here on Wednesday to enable them to compete in the forthcoming third edition of `Indian Idol`, a singing competition of the channel.

Encouraged by the success of local boy Qazi Taqeer in the talent hunt show of `Fame Gurukul`, the television channel is organizing an audition for interested boys and girls of Kashmir, a spokesman of the channel told reporters here today.

He said that in the earlier two editions of Indian Idol, audition was restricted to six cities of the country but to attract more aspirants the audition is being held at 12 cities this time.

Meanwhile, al-Midana militant outfit has asked the locals not to participate in the show and threatened to kill those who will participate in the show."We appeal to boys and girls of Kashmir not to participate in the talent hunt..", a spokesman of the outfit Abu Sadiq told news organisations here.

He said no lenency (sic)would be shown against those who defy the ban on the show imposed by the outfit.

From wikipedia (groan - I know) but I found this interesting (if true). Countries in blue have Idol competitions and film them. The countries in green (mostly Middle Eastern) have competitions but DO NOT film them. What's up with that, I wonder? Also surprising - it looks like there's no Mexican Idol.

Hide the children! The Americans are coming!

From the National Post (via LGF)

The Cross-Cultural Roundtable on Security had a noble mission when it was set up three years ago: to engage the country's ethnic communities in Canada's fight against terrorism. Some now call it the "circus."

It sounds like they should sell tickets to this thing - or at least put it on the tv:
The first speaker, Ahmed Motiar, started off by sharing his curious theories of the 9/11 attacks, claiming that “Muslims were not involved and seven of the alleged 19 hijackers are alive and well!”
Then Cheryfa Jamal (see above) complained about a Canadian military exercise she said was held outside her children’s Islamic school. (Hubby is one of the 18 men belonging to a terrorist group that was allegedly plotting truck bombings in downtown Toronto.)

“You’re asking us here to have a dialogue, to bring our communities together, yet this is the kind of actions that we’re facing every day,” she said.

“My children came home upset. They thought the Americans had landed.”

“Good lord,” sighed another participant, before the meeting digressed into a shouting match between rival Muslim factions.
(see what I mean about the tv deal? Call Jerry Springer!)
Those canny Canadians. Imagine using Hollywood Action Movie Tactics to catch terrorists! I guess, that means they used bad scripts and lots of hot scantily clad babes?
A speaker accused the RCMP of instigating last summer's terrorist plot by planting an informant inside the cell.
Another complained that police had used "Hollywood action movie" tactics to arrest the Toronto terror suspects. "The humiliating way which has been used in arresting them, it really hurts the community. It annoys us and it make Muslims feel we are unfairly targeted."
The lone voice crying out in the wilderness:
A rare voice of support came from Munir Pervaiz of the Muslim Canadian Congress, who told the officials they need not apologize for what they do to protect Canadians. "You should be very aggressive, very assertive."

Curtain Munchers take one on the chin!

Hijab, yes. Niqab and Jilbab, no.

Girl loses appeal over veil ban.

A 12-year-old Muslim girl has lost a legal challenge to her school's ban on wearing the niqab full-face veil. Lawyers for the girl and her father had argued that the ban was "irrational" and a breach of her human rights.

But Mr Justice Silber rejected their plea for a judicial review.

The girl's lawyers said after the judgment that she and her family were "bitterly disappointed" and were considering an appeal.

The judge was told at a recent hearing that the girl's three elder sisters all attended the same school - two of them under the present headteacher - and all wore the niqab. (ed.note: must have been before Muslims started blowing up buildings and stuff.)

But when the girl - referred to only as X - began wearing the veil last September, the school objected on the grounds it would make communication and learning difficult.

The veil covers all of the face except the eyes.

About 120 of the school's 1,300-plus pupils are Muslims, and up to 60 of them wear the hijab headscarf, though no others are thought to be demanding the right to wear the niqab.

The girl is currently receiving tuition at home and has been offered a place at a different, mixed school which permits the niqab, but she wants to go back to her original school.

The girl's solicitor, Shah Qureshi, said after the ruling: "This is a case about religious tolerance and the freedom to practice your religion as long as it does not interfere with others.

"This freedom is enshrined within Article 9 of the European Convention on Human Rights. My client and her family are not the extremists that they have been portrayed as by some elements of the press.

"All she wants is to be able to practice her deeply held beliefs whilst getting on with her daily life. She is not impinging on the rights of others and has always been willing to meet with the school to reach a resolution."

Charles and Camilla do Kuwait. After a fashion...

The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall enjoyed "his and hers" tours of Kuwait City on the first day of their official 10-day visit to the Gulf States. While he talked Middle Eastern politics with the emir and military ties with the top brass, she found herself blowing bubbles, shaking hands with a toy donkey and admiring a glitzy tiara made out of egg cartons - though she resisted the temptation to try it on.

In a country where women have only just got the vote, the duchess's itinerary was, predictably, family and child orientated(sic).
(ed. note: I hate it when people use made up words. Note to the Telegraph. The correct word: oriented.)

The couple even had separate official dinners. (It's that old He-Man Woman hater's club protocol. Hate to break it to you ladies, but up until the mid 70's Georgetown dinners featured the quaint custom of whisking the women upstairs while the men enjoyed cigars, cognac and serious talk. I just finished reading The Georgetown Ladies Social Club: Power, Passion and Politics in the Nation's Capital last night.)

His was a male-only affair with Kuwait's Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, who, at 68 years, possibly has the distinction of being the only royal heir-in-waiting older than the 58-year-old Prince himself.

Hers was the Kuwaiti equivalent of a girlie night with the crown prince's wife, Sheikha Sharifa Al-Sabah, a mother-of-five and accomplished hostess.

"The women usually have much more fun than the men," confided one source.
(Dinah's not buying it.)

It's good to be queen - er, duchess I mean.
Earlier the duchess, who chose to wear a special Omani turquoise stone and silver necklace given to her as a wedding present by Stuart Laing, the British Ambassador in Kuwait, and his wife Sibella...

It's all official business, people:
The couple's 10-day tour, which will take in Qatar, Bahrain, Abu Dhabi and Dubai, aims to further foster good relations with these oil-rich and strategically important Arabian Peninsular states in a turbulent region from which Islamic extremists have pledged to cleanse western influences.

Kuwait, where the terror threat is strongest, is just over three-hours drive from Basra, and vital for the logistical support of the coalition's military operations in Iraq.

The tour was planned after Prince Charles met Tony Blair at Balmoral last summer and offered to visit the region to support the Government's counter-terrorism offensive. During a private 20-minute meeting with Kuwait's 15th Emir Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmed Al Jaber Al Sabah, the crown prince and the prime minister, aides said the Prince Charles, among other topics, the Middle East peace process and the delicate subject of Iran.

This just in. Beards protect tonsils from sunstroke.

Hijab for Men. You had to know a headline like this would be getting Dinah's attention! As a long time and vocal advocate of 'Hooter Boys' you know that she would be down with this for Muslim men. (hey, what's good for the goose is good for the gander, dudes!)

Read on my scantily dressed lads and lassies!

In the endless debates about hijab there's a common misapprehension that it applies only to women. This is not altogether surprising because Islamic scholars (all of them male) have spent far more time over the years prescribing detailed and often very restrictive dress codes for women than they have for men.

With so much attention devoted to the regulation of female clothing, feminists have naturally come to regard hijab as a case of discrimination against women or a symbol of their oppression. But male hijab also exists and seems to be increasing in importance.

The general idea behind hijab is that Muslims should dress "modestly" - by covering up their "private" parts and avoiding clothes that are flashy or extravagant - and this includes men as well as women. Though there are differences of opinion among Muslims as to what, exactly, constitutes male hijab, Wikipedia gives a broad-brush summary:

The opinion that Muslim men must cover themselves between the navel and the knees is predominant, and most Muslims believe that a man who fails to observe this requirement during salat must perform the prayer again, properly covered, in order for it to be valid. Three of the four madhabs, or schools of law, require that the knees be covered; the Maliki school recommends but does not require knee covering. A significant minority also consider that men should wear long sleeves in public, covering the arms up to the wrists. Such a law was in place in Iran for some time after the 1979 revolution. According to some hadith, Muslim men are asked not to wear gold jewellery or silk clothing. Some scholars says that these prohibitions should be generalised to prohibit the lavish display of wealth on one's person.

Look around the internet, though, and you'll find much more detailed "rules" prescribed by the more rigid-minded Muslim websites. Muttaqun Online, which actually uses the phrase "unlawful clothing" in its explication, says that men's clothes should cover the whole body but not reach below the ankles, and must not be tight-fitting. White and green are good colours to wear but red is bad, unless mixed with another colour, and you musn't tuck your shirt inside your trousers.

Beards are obligatory and must not be trimmed (though the moustache part should be cut). Invoking science in support of this, Muttaqun says: "Medical reports reveal that the beard protects the tonsils from sunstroke".

There are warnings on other websites against men wearing gold jewellery, silk or "feminine" attire. Feminine dress includes male neck-chains, bracelets and earrings according to IslamOnline.

Though many of these "rules" have a dubious basis in scripture, it is one thing for individuals to follow them voluntarily in the belief that heaven's bouncers operate a strict door policy ("no hoodies, trainers, gold rings or unshaved faces") but trying to impose them on their fellow-Muslims is something else entirely.

We have seen this happen in Afghanistan under the Taliban, in post-revolutionary Iran and in Saudi Arabia, with the setting up of religious police forces to monitor standards of dress and other aspects of personal behaviour. Now, the same thing is happening at an unofficial level in Iraq, where militias have even murdered barbers for giving customers "un-Islamic" haircuts.
One Iraqi who eventually got asylum in Britain described how he was accosted near his home in Baghdad by a group of men:

I was told to grow a moustache and beard. I was told not to wear jeans or tight clothes but I must wear traditional clothes ... and that I must not grow my hair long and that I should not wear bright colours or shirts with English writings or western style.

He was then beaten up while onlookers cheered.

Though hijab itself is nothing new, the concerted efforts to universalise the rules and impose strict "Islamic" dress codes do seem to be a fairly recent development - probably over the last few decades.

Historically, Muslims in various parts of the world have dressed in a variety of ways - often following local customs which pre-date Islam - and nobody bothered very much about the differences. Look at these Muslim men in stripey skirts with flowers in their hair. Not what you would think of as "traditional" Saudi attire - but traditional it is, at least in the remote south-west of the kingdom.

There are several possible reasons for the changing attitudes today.

In the old days, communities were fairly isolated. This allowed each to have its own distinct customs and traditions. Within each community, though, people would tend to dress similarly, for reasons of practicality rather than religious dogma; they would wear whatever was available locally, and choice was limited. There might be the odd eccentric who dressed differently, but they could be tolerated because no one saw them as a threat to the "Islamic" way of life.

Since then, modern communications - television, foreign travel and the like - have brought increased contact, not only between different Islamic traditions, but between different cultures. Young people pick up fashion trends from elsewhere and experiment with them, while religious folk - usually the literal-minded sort who believe anyone who disagrees with them will end up in hell - are appalled at what they see and feel threatened by the disregard for their authority.

Parallel with this is an international situation where many Muslims - rightly or wrongly - feel they are under siege from the west and respond to it, as a form of self-defence, through a re-assertion of supposedly traditional "Islamic values". In reality, some of these values may not be as traditional as people imagine but they tend to be highly visible, and strict enforcement of male and female hijab is one of them.

In communities that feel themselves under threat, this might be called "solidarity hijab" - the sartorial equivalent of patriotic flag-waving - where anyone who doesn't conform is regarded as betraying the cause.

A variation on this, and usually more voluntary in nature, is hijab as a way of asserting identity. It can be found in areas where Muslims form a minority, and so the niqab - a highly practical form of dress if you're caught in a desert sandstorm - turns into a religious/political statement when worn on the streets of Britain. It happens in Muslim countries too, though. Saudi salafis, for example, use "indentity hijab" to distinguish themselves from other Muslims and in countries where political dissent is restricted styles of dress become an important way of expressing opposition to the government.

Despite the invocations of Islamic tradition, all this seems far removed from the original concept of hijab: that Muslims should simply assume a modest appearance. In extreme cases, it also reflects an extraordinarily superficial approach to religion where there's more concern over a man who is "improperly" dressed than a one who takes bribes at work and beats his wife at home.

Hah-hah. "Extraordinarily superficial approach to religion"

Virgil is GOODE - speaks truth to Muslims. They can't handle it.

You had to see this one coming a mile away:

Group Wants Congressman Virgil Goode to explain comments about Muslims...

A Muslim group said Monday it had invited Rep. Virgil Goode, R-Va., to expand on biting remarks he made last week during debate on a House resolution disapproving of President Bush's decision to send more than 21,000 U.S. troops into Iraq.

The Muslim American Public Affairs Council has "extended this invitation to Congressman Goode to give him a venue to explain his recent comments about Muslims and Islam," MAPAC Executive Director Marc Conaghan said in a statement. MAPAC also asked Goode to share a dialogue with Jamal Badawi, an Islamic and comparative religion scholar. (ed. note: Read this Jihad Watch piece on Dr Badawi)

Goode's position on the invitation wasn't clear Monday evening. Phone calls to Goode's office went unanswered. Most government offices were closed on Monday for observation of the President's Day holiday.

MAPAC, based in Raleigh, N.C., also did not immediately return messages seeking further comment.

Goode's remarks recently have raised eyebrows among U.S. Muslim groups.

Last week, Goode said the nonbinding resolution would provide "comfort and encourage the radical Muslims who want to destroy our country." He also said Islamic jihadists want U.S. currency to say "In Muhammad We Trust," with an Islamic flag flying over the White House and U.S. Capitol.

In its release, MAPAC said Rep. David Price, D-N.C., also will be speaking at the event.

Here - let me show you what he meant MAPAC!

First there was Davos, now there's Doha!

From the Gulf Times:
"America will never be the master of the world..."

This from Islamic scholar, Dr. Yousuf al Qaradawi as he addresses the fourth US-Islamic World Forum. He claims that the US started it because we needed another enemy to replace the Soviet Union. He goes on to say (and with a straight face apparently):

“We have no desire for sparking a conflict with America. The US has initiated the animosity when the neo-Conservatives chose Islam as an alternative enemy,” he said, while observing that America had never condemned Israel for any of its aggression but provided it with unlimited support.

His advice for the US? Pay the jizya, suckers!

Qaradawi requested Brookings Institution Director Martin Indyk to convey his advice to the US decision-makers, saying that America should give up the ambition of imposing its will on the world. “America has used excessive force to dominate the world but to no avail. It failed to settle any of the conflicts in which it wasted hundreds of billions of dollars,” he added. The scholar said that if the US had used “this money” to reach out to the Third World countries to meet their needs, it could have easily won the hearts of the people.

And here's a real knee slapper for you:

“America will ... be replaced by new powers like India or China,” he said, adding that commitment to justice was the only way to win the world. “America will never be able to win the world by force. Only justice and love can settle the problems. If America changed its policy, we would change our attitudes,” he added.

Double standards or no standards at all? Hmm. That's a good one.

Moussa said that the majority of the Arabs and Muslims did not hate the US but rather its double standards. “Muslims cannot accept the US policy of supporting Israel and its occupation of Arab and Muslim territories,” he said. Referring to the US stance on Iran, he said the Arabs could not understand the different approach the US took towards Israel’s nuclear programme.

Phew - he had me worried there for a minute. Thought he was going to forget to blame the Evil Jooooos!

By the way, all this is taking place at the Ritz Carlton Doha. (I guess the US must be footing the bill.) Here's what we're missing...

Grand yet inviting, The Ritz-Carlton, Doha combines extravagant opulence with the warmth of a traditional Arabian welcome. Situated on its own exclusive island resort overlooking the crystal blue waters of the Arabian Gulf, and just few minutes from the Doha Golf Club it is an idyllic setting for business or leisure.

Heck, this sweet gig at the Ritz should win us some hearts and minds! Right Dr. al Qaradawi?

I took a glance at the list of attendees here. The First US delegate to appear on the list? Rana Abbas from the Arab American Anti Discrimination Committee (AWARE) . That figures. The second? Alicia Adams, Vice President of International Programming and Dance at the JFK Center for the Programming Arts. Read all about her 2009 "Olive Branch to the Arab Culture" (oh please.) here. The good news? Mohammed, blogger extraodinaire over at Iraq the Model is supposed to be there as well.

P.S. On a more personal note, I will begin crossposting some items from Dinah Lord over at Maverick News Media the dynamic new media site sired by Pamela of Atlas Shrugs and Pastorius of the Infidel Bloggers Alliance. It's great to be joining them in putting the word out about the Islamic Jihad and the loony Lefties. Rock on.
Cheers - Dinah

Deja Vu Defeatism

The troops returning home are worried. “We’ve lost the peace,” men tell you. “We can’t make it stick.”

A tour of the beaten-up cities of Europe six months after victory is a mighty sobering experience for anyone.

Never has American prestige in Europe been lower.

We have swept away Hitlerism, but a great many Europeans feel that the cure has been worse than the disease.

First Ever Car Bomb goes off in Mogadishu. Or not.

Terrorists kill themselves, Somalia minister says

Somali’s deputy defense minister Salad Ali Jelle said on Sunday that today’s car explosion, which killed four people was a big loss faced by what he called the terrorist groups hiding in the capital. Mr. Jelle told the local media tonight that terrorists killed themselves when a car filled with explosives went off in Mogadishu. “Today’s car bomb was a great loss to terrorists hiding in the capital. They failed to attack the interim government... they lacked the technical know how to fix the explosives, therefore it is a big blow to all terrorists in Mogadishu,” said Jelle. “The government is aware of the activities of the Islamist remnants and will hunt down them,”

First ever maybe, but they evidently didn't have beginner's luck:
It is the first ever car bomb that happened in the capital. One of the pedestrians got wounded in the blast.

Toyota: The choice of discriminating terrorists the world over.
The car, which was Toyota Corala(sic), has exploded near the main soccer stadium in Mogadishu around 1:10pm local time.

Here's where the 'or not' part comes in:
There are conflicting reports on what caused the explosion. Some reports say that the blast was caused by a roadside bomb planted by insurgent group while other sources say that the car exploded itself. But later reports say that armed men who were on a passing van hit a rocket propel grenade at a small car where all the four men burnt to ashes and were beyond recognition.

“I did not wear the Hijab for kidding but I took it in fear of Allah,”

Somalia government to ban the Hijab

Forces loyal to the transitional federal government in the Somalia capital Mogadishu on Monday began to remove the Hijab veil from the women in some parts of the city as surge of violence against the interim government continues in Mogadishu .

The security forces stationing around the ex-Somali National Theatre in the downtown of Mogadishu could have been seen stopping all veiled women on the cars and in the streets, and ordering them to put off the little covering cloth on the face which Muslim women wear.

The move is part of tightening the security, government official said. Leilo Abdirahman, among the today’s women ordered to remove the Hijab, told Somalinet that she argued that the Islamic law does not allow her to let the veil down. “I did not wear the Hijab for kidding but I took it in fear of Allah,”

Leilo said the soldiers forcefully removed the veils of many women who initially rejected to put down the cloaks. The government did not give any comment on the move but aides of the government say Mogadishu has taken measures to prevent further violence.

Sources say that the government fears that the insurgent groups use the Hijab for their terror attacks against the government targets. (ed.note: A tactic used often by the Islamist cowards.)

This move follows after violent actions in which at least eight people mostly civilians have been killed and scores wounded in separate attacks in the Somalia capital.

Karaoke Blast: Birthdays and Bombs

My niece turned 7 this weekend. Her favorite birthday gift? A karaoke machine. She's a pop star in the making (BTW - I'm not sure that's such a good thing, I was raised with all boys - we played things like Rat Patrol and Combat. We also would stick firecrackers in the cowpies lying in the back field, light them and then run like hell. My feminine side emerged somewhat later in life- ha-ha.)

But, it was to fun to watch as she and her little friends were having a blast singing and vamping at her birthday pj party.

It was probably about the same time they were having another kind of blast at karaoke bars in Thailand...

Suspected Muslim insurgents launched simultaneous attacks across four provinces in southern Thailand, killing six and wounding at least 50, an army spokesman said. The attacks yesterday evening were the first time the insurgents have struck all four of the enflamed provinces – Yala, Narathiwat, Pattani and Songkhla – at the same time, said army spokesman Col. Akara Thiprote. Triggered by digital watches, 29 bombs rocked the predominantly Muslim deep south, most of them set to explode between 7.15pm and 8pm, he said. The targets were karaoke lounges, hotels, schools, petrol stations and power grids.

The insurgency is insane:
A sizable number of yesterday’s bombings were against karaoke lounges, which are regarded as decadent by the Islamic rebels. At least two schools were burned down.

And then there's this:
Violence in the south has been escalating in recent months despite a major policy shift by the military-imposed government, which is trying to replace an earlier iron-fisted approach in dealing with the rebels with a “hearts and minds” campaign.

More than 2,000 people have died in the four provinces since the insurgency erupted in 2004, fuelled by accusations of decades of misrule by the central government. The insurgents have not announced their goals, but are believed to be fighting for a separate state imbued with radical Islamic ideology.

This last sentence actually made my head spin....gee, ya think???? Go ahead, you can say it. Come on. Put your lips together and just say it. I know you can...

SHARIA!

Iraq VP wants Shi'ite militia named terror group

Speaking of about time...isn't it about time to call a spade a spade over there?

The United States should classify radical Shi'ite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr's Mehdi Army militia as a "terrorist" group, Iraq's Vice President Tareq al-Hashemi said in comments aired on Sunday.
"What is expected from the U.S. administration, to avoid double standards, is to classify the Mehdi Army and the militias that worked under its umbrella and banner as terrorist militias and to apply international standards against them," al-Hashemi, a Sunni, told Al Jazeera television.

Deemed by the Pentagon to be the biggest threat to Iraq, the Mehdi Army has kept a low profile, appearing on the streets without their guns, since U.S. and Iraqi troops launched an offensive last week to quell sectarian violence.

It's about time. Anger at Foreign Arabs builds in Iraq

Anger at foreign Arabs builds in Iraq (and this is an AP story!)

BAGHDAD, Iraq -- The wealthy Arab man, sporting a foreign accent, has just given an Iraqi teenager some cash and a bomb when police burst in and arrest him. "You come here from abroad and want to make this young man kill his Iraqi brothers?" an officer asks.

The television ad, widely aired across Iraq in recent weeks and meant to encourage Iraqis to report suspicious behavior to police, is a startling example of a new strain of anger and discrimination against foreign Arabs in this Arab-majority country.

No sh*&, Shi'ite.

Suspicion toward foreign Arabs stems, in part, from the fact that the Sunni-led insurgency has included many foreign fighters, most of them Arabs, who are blamed for deadly attacks that have claimed thousands of Iraqi lives.

Foreign Arabs who live in Iraq often try to hide their identities by faking an Iraqi accent or staying silent. Iraqis are usually suspicious when they hear a person speaking Arabic with a non-Iraqi accent.

The suspicions have shown up in official pronouncements from the Arab Shiite Muslim-led government of Iraq, too.

After a suicide truck bomb killed more than 132 people and wounded hundreds in a Baghdad market a few weeks ago, the head of the Shiite-controlled Interior Ministry's explosives department, Maj. Gen. Jihad al-Jabiri, told state-run Iraqi television: "I call on the government to deport (foreign) Arabs immediately."

Hit by violence from all sides, it is perhaps not surprising that many Shiite Muslim Arabs here have begun showing widespread suspicion of foreign Arabs, who are often from Sunni Muslim countries. Iraq's Shiite-led government is close to Iran, a non-Arab Shiite Muslim country.
But the discrimination is a troubling sign of just how suspicious Iraqis have become of outsiders as sectarian violence has divided people into camps.

The resentment toward foreign Arabs also has increased regional tensions between Iraq and some of its neighbors, including Egypt, Jordan and Saudi Arabia, who already are wary of how Shiite leaders are running Iraq.

A day after the Interior Ministry general asked for Arabs' deportation, some Shiite members of parliament echoed the call. That led to a dispute after the parliament speaker, a Sunni Arab, retorted that both Arabs "and others" should be deported - a reference to Iranians. Many Sunnis here fear Iranians are infiltrating Iraq.

Iraqi authorities in recent months also have prevented anyone who holds an Arab-country passport from entering the country without first gaining a security approval that is almost impossible to get.

Redneckery and Muslim Tomfoolery

This from that pantheon of journalistic excellence (cough-cough): The Arab American News

Canadians have had the prejudice that rednecks hold sway in Alberta. That will now have to change. The village of Hérouxville, 1300 strong, is now hands-down champion of red-neckery. It is a community that is overwhelmingly white, Catholic, native-born, and French-speaking. Its mayor and council have adopted a code of conduct "so that the future residents can integrate socially more easily."

Here come the Islamic Crybaby Brigades!!!!!

The Canadian Islamic Congress is considering making a complaint to the Quebec Human Rights Commission.

And this is the result:

André Drouin, the author of the notorious code, complained that the media had "misinterpreted" what had been done. By the meeting with the women, Hérouxville was, he said, showing the world that it is not racist. To further this effort to clarify the matter, the code has been rewritten to eliminate reference to stoning, burning with acid, and female circumcision. It appears that some necks are fading to pink, because of the bold initiative taken by the Canadian Islamic Congress and the six women.

What is the Islamic term for GLOATING???? What is the Islamic term for hypocrisy? What is the Islamic term for it's okay to call some one a redneck, but don't you dare call me a name or I will riot and burn stuff?

(Redneck Wimmen Unite against the Muslim menace!)

Read this. It will make more than your neck red ... especially this part:

Boughaba, who led the women's visit, said she was struck by how little the townspeople knew about Islam and its customs. Boughaba said André Drouin, the municipal councillor who drafted the code, told the women's delegation he had done some research before writing the rules.
"But people I met knew very little," she said. She was glad to share some of her beliefs with Hérouxville locals, but is realistic about changing people's opinions on reasonable accommodation. "Hérouxville won't change," she said. Boughaba believes pride is preventing Hérouxville from scrapping the code altogether. "We'll leave them to think about it for a bit of time."

Then we'll come back and start making some real trouble for them....eh, Ms. Boughaba?

Muslim Poem stirs up yet more controversy

I've seen this headline over the last few days and have been purposely ignoring it. I've just not been in the mood for one more whiny, Muslim seethe session. You know me, grown women who willingly submit to the hijab really annoy me. And don't EVEN get me started on the niqab.

Note to all you Lady Curtain Munchers out there: You might be nice people, but your insistence on remaining second class citizens in a he-man woman hater's club is holding the rest of us back.

Quit marrying your first cousins! And for God's sake, quit playing that polygamy game!

But onto the poem:

My veil is not a kerchief
It's my skin
My modesty, my dignity, my respect.
And if you, old-stock immigrant
You have neither faith nor law
And you spent your youth drunk
And went from one male to the next
That's not the case for me.

So touching!

NOT!

It was written by a man!

The poem was published three weeks ago in an Arab-language Montreal newspaper. In it, a Muslim woman lauds the wearing of the hijab, and suggests those who fear her are godless people who've led lives of debauchery. Its author is a man, a young Lebanese Montrealer.

He was part of a Muslim delegation that went to Herouxville (ed.note: the greatest town in Canada) on Sunday to plead for mutual respect and an end to stereotypes. (another delegation ala the Motoon delegation of Shit disturbing Mullahs that caused all that ruckus about the Jyllands-Posten cartoons.)

Posted in French - the language in which it was written - on the Internet, in blogs and discussion groups, the poem is being called an outrage, the work of hypocritical fanatics. But the 22-year-old poet stands by his words, defending them as merely a made-up cry of pain by what could be any devout Muslim woman hurt by anti-Islamic prejudice in Quebec.

"She's criticizing anyone who tries to bring her down, who tells her, 'Your veil is bad for our society,' " said Haydar Moussa, who came here from Lebanon when he was 8 and speaks for the Association of Young Lebanese Muslims.

"She's saying: 'You made mistakes and I never said anything. So why criticize me for something that is very personal?' " Moussa told The Gazette.

Dinah's putting her Shrinking Cap on here - interesting that he compares wearing the veil to a "mistake"... hmmm?

Okay, I'll say it. Pushy Muslim Broad on the Make.

AKA The public face of Muslims in the Alamo City

The set up (I'm reminded of NBC and their lame Nascar stunt here):

Before Sept. 11, Sarwat Husain rarely wore a hijab — the Muslim headscarf. But just as the attacks on the United States changed the world, they transformed Husain.

Practically overnight, this product of a privileged upbringing in Pakistan became an activist, determined to defend Muslims from discrimination and to educate San Antonians about Islam and Middle Eastern culture.

The most visible sign of her transformation was the hijab, ever-present since a group of Muslim women complained to her about the ugly looks and threats they were getting on the street.

"At first I thought, 'No, that can't be happening in San Antonio,' so I agreed to wear the hijab for a week to see how people would react to me," said Husain, now in her mid-50s, who became a U.S. citizen in 1975 and moved to San Antonio with her family in 1989. "I wanted to see if anything would change from before."

What happened next not only would open her eyes to the reality that anti-Muslim sentiment was on the rise, it would motivate her to become the public face of the San Antonio Muslim community.

Anti-Muslim sentiment on the rise? I hate to break it to you Sarwat sweetmeat, that tends to happen when Muslims kill thousands of Americans on a crisp, beautiful fall day.

Oh, and here's the payoff:

Today, she's the founder, president and sole woman on the board of the San Antonio chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, a Washington, D.C.-based anti-discrimination group.

This vignette about Madame Husain was quite amusing:

She's seen discrimination first-hand.

Standing at a checkout line at an electronics store in San Antonio one day, she noticed a woman glance at her, then clutch her husband's arm.

"I'm with you," the man told his wife. "There's nothing she can do to you. The guards are out there."

I call bullshit on that. Hubby dearest was holding wifey back because she was getting ready to snatch that schmatte off her head and smack her with it! And if had happened anywhere along the Eastern Seaboard, it very well could have been your very own Dinah!

Speaking of He Man Woman Hater Clubs: Cradles Plan for Unwanted Girls.

This is so sad to me.

The Indian government is planning to set up a network of cradles around the country where parents can leave unwanted baby girls. The minister for women and child development, Renuka Chowdhury, told BBC News the cradles would be "everywhere".

It is the latest initiative to try to wipe out the practice of female foeticide and female infanticide.
A girl child is often viewed as inferior to a boy. A bride's dowry can also cripple a family financially.

Research for the year 2001 showed that for every 1,000 male babies born in India, there were just 933 girls. Research published last year estimating that the number of female abortions was as high as 500,000 a year was disputed by the Indian Medical Association.

"We will have cradles strategically placed all over the place so that people who don't want their babies can leave them there," Ms Chowdhury told the BBC News website.

The sex ratio is so skewed in some states, men cannot find brides

The cradles could be in places as diverse as the local tax collector's office, or where local councils meet.

Ms Chowdhury said parents would be able to leave their babies secretly. The important thing was to save their lives.

She said she assumed that most of the babies left under the "cradle scheme" would be girls.
"They will be collected and put into homes," she said. "There are plenty of existing homes and we will be adding some more also."

In 1994, India banned the use of technology to determine the sex of unborn children and the termination of pregnancies on the basis of gender.

However, campaigners say many clinics still offer a seemingly legitimate facade for a multi-billion pound racket and that gender determination is a highly profitable business.

Experts say female foeticide is mostly linked to socio-economic factors. It is an idea that many say carries over from the time India was a predominantly agrarian society where boys were considered an extra pair of hands on the farm.

In a separate development, police in the central state of Madhya Pradesh say they have recovered some 390 bones of babies or foetuses from the grounds of a Christian missionary hospital in the town of Ratlam after a tip off.

"The question of female foeticide and infanticide is part of our investigation, as is illegal abortions," Superintendent of Police Satish Saxena said, Reuters news agency reports.

And even in a country as modern as Japan...

Last November a Japanese hospital announced plans to set up a "baby hatch" allowing mothers to anonymously drop off their newborns so they could be put up for adoption.

The drop-off at Jikei Hospital in southern Japan will consist of a small window in an outside wall, which opens on to an incubator bed, officials say.

Once a baby has been placed inside, an alarm bell will alert staff.

Little black dress too much for He-Man Woman Hater's Club!

Hat tip: Ragnar Danneskjold, Arrogant Prick over at the Jawa Report

After showing up to a Thai movie awards show in a sexy black dress (photos here) Thai actress Chotiros Suriyawong has found herself in hot water:

BANGKOK, Feb. 17 (UPI) -- The Thai actress known as "Amy" has been ordered to perform community service for wearing a dress deemed too revealing at an awards ceremony.

Chotiros Suriyawong, 22, has also been axed from her latest movie project amid the uproar over her couture at Thailand's version of the Academy Awards.

The Independent described the daring frock as one based on "Elizabeth Hurley's well-known safety-pin number." The Versace number Hurley wore to a premier in 1994 featured a neckline that didn't so much plunge as free fall.

The newspaper said Amy was caught up in a "morality drive" launched by the military government that seized power in Thailand last fall.

Amy has apologized for the flap and will spend two weeks reading to the blind to make up for her fashion faux pas."

Makes you wonder what they'd do to the no-panty posse: Paris, Brittany and Lindsay!

(ed. note: It's really too bad that this dress doesn't fit properly. I mean, really. Dinah has provided this pic of Liz Hurley in the original Versace safety pin dress for illustration purposes. As you can see Liz's dress had a much better fit, then again it was Versace Couture, not a Thai knock-off.

She also has this fashion tip for Amy (and any other aspiring starlets getting ready to head out in that drop dead gorgeous, skimpy gown). Before heading out the door, make sure you bend down and touch your toes, stand up and wave your arms around. Bust a few dance moves, too. If any of the naughty bits move or shift uncomfortably, don't wear it. There's nothing like a frock that you can comfortably frolic in!

My other tip to Amy: Get the hell out of Dodge, girl before you end up getting stoned.

And I'm not talking killer Thai stick, either. Seriously.)

Chastity belts and botched jokes

Just Kidding! Abu Hassan steals page from John Kerry's botched joke playbook...This just in from the New Straits Times:

KUALA LUMPUR: A day after creating an uproar among women across the country, a well-respected Islamic religious figure said that his comments on chastity belts for women was just a joke."Joke aje. It was not seriously meant," said Datuk Abu Hassan Din Al-Hafiz yesterday.

Newspapers had carried reports yesterday that Abu Hassan, a well known ulama, had said women should wear chastity belts to thwart rape and incest and "to protect themselves from sex maniacs".At a Maal Hijrah forum in Kampung Pelandan, Hulu Terengganu, Abu Hassan had told the audience that "the best way for women to avert sex perpetrators is to wear protection".
He also said that while his intention was not to offend women, by wearing chastity belts, husbands could also feel more secure, adding "if you know what I mean".

However, he changed his tune yesterday and said his comments at the forum were not meant to be a suggestion."It’s not practical to wear a chastity belt in this day and age. It can’t be done."

Because, by Allah, if it could be done all you bitches and hos would be wearing one!

Wow! A Moderate Muslim Encouraging Cooperation with Authorities?

I couldn't believe it when I read this:

Rodwan Saleh, president of the Islamic Society of Greater Houston, said the enthusiasm of recent converts can be exploited by some extreme groups. And though he did not know Maldonado, Saleh said the man may have been steered to the darker sides of Islam.
Blog and Internet message-board posts indicate Maldonado's eagerness to learn Arabic.

"As new people accept Islam, they need to have someone who truly teaches them the essence of the religion," Saleh said. "Someone who is now highly spirited or naive or ignorant, someone can really take advantage of that."

Saleh said he encourages any Muslims who know Maldonado or his circle of friends to work with authorities.

"It is our duty to be cooperative so this does not happen again," he said. "If there is any recruiting through him or someone else, we need to know."

Rodwan has been to the White House.

Thus when President Bush invited religious leaders of different faiths to Washington, D.C., for the National Day of Prayer for the Katrina Victims, he also invited Rodwan Saleh, President of Islamic Society of Greater Houston to represent the Muslim faith. As Rodwan Saleh has aptly put it, the humanitarian work done by the Muslim community was a calling of their own faith but it is gratifying to find out that it has also imparted a desired image to the public at large. Therefore, we should look at the Presidential invitation as recognition of the positive role that Muslim community plays in the American society.

I think much work remains to be done on that score, Rodwan, but I thank you for speaking out so plainly about the Maldonado case. You interest me. Let's learn a little more about you, hmmmm?

He's not into profiling. In Are Middle Eastern Terrorists Posing as Mexican Immigrants he allows that it makes Muslims feel inferior.

He's involved with the
Katy Mosque and it's pig-racing neighbor.

He's happy about non-denominational chapels at airports.

He's an engineer who was laid-off by Compaq and became a small business owner. Buying and running a restaurant down the street from Compaq and across the street from where the Champions Forest Mosque was being built.

He won't look at the Mohammed Cartoons, he considers them blasphemous.

He believes the desecration of the Koran to be on the level of the desecration of the American Flag. He fails to note the lack of deadly riots accompanying the desecration of the American flag.

He deals with Mosque personnel issues.

He is respected.

He is a hitter when it comes to bringing in the CAIR donations.

Maldonado: The Lone Star Jihadi

He started out in the Granite State. The Boston Globe

Daniel Maldonado, a slender young man in his early 20s with tattoos and dreadlocks, entered the Selimiye Mosque in a densely populated neighborhood of central Methuen with a humble request for help converting to Islam.

But as his commitment to ever purer, more intense religious observance deepened over the next several years, he became critical of other Muslims' observance of the faith, until the imam who helped him convert told him to refrain from judging others or to leave the mosque.
Maldonado, on the road to the Islamic fundamentalism that would ultimately lead him to Somalia, decided to leave.

Maldonado, who grew up in Pelham, N.H., and later lived in Methuen, became immersed in Islam and attended prayer sessions regularly at Selimiye Mosque. He began wearing traditional Arab clothing, including the galabeyah, an ankle-length gown with long sleeves that covered the tattoos on his arms. He struggled to grow the beard of a religious Muslim. When he could not, he blamed his Puerto Rican heritage and began chastising fellow Muslims who could grow a full beard and chose not to.

His wife dressed in a burkah, exposing only her eyes, and wore gloves in public. The couple's daughter, a toddler at the time, wore the hijab headcovering, though under most interpretations of Muslim law this practice is required only after a girl reaches puberty. They renamed their son, Anthony, as Mohammed.

About his wife: Maldonado, the first American to be charged with training to fight with al-Qaida in Somalia, took his wife and three children with him. There, Tamekia Cunningham succumbed to a high fever that likely was caused by malaria. U.S. officials flew the couple's three children home to their grandparents in New England after Maldonado was captured in Kenya.

It's a small world after all...Trolley Square shooter and AWOL soldier go to same mosque

Huh. Remember Marine Cpl, Wassef Hassoun who went missing in Iraq and ended up in Lebanon? Well, what do you know, it is a small world after all. His home boy mosque? None other than Al Noor Mosque. His main Imam? The wife beating, knife throwing, getting run out of rail Imam, Shuaib al Din!

Who knew? Where have I been?

The Al Noor Mosque and Mosque Khadeeja held prayer vigils held prayer vigils for Hassoun:
In the time-honored manner, a dozen men and boys fell to their knees, facing Mecca, to intone their daily prayers at the Mosque al-Noor. But the ordinary prayer session Monday included an extraordinary appeal: a plea for the safety of Wassef Ali Hassoun, a member of this small mosque who is facing a death threat from militants in Iraq.

The tightly knit (ed. note: unassimilated) Islamic community in the southwest suburbs of Salt Lake City responded in shock and fear Monday to news that Hassoun, a U.S. Marine corporal with extensive family ties here, had been captured by a group calling itself the Islamic Retaliation Movement/Armed Resistance Wing.

How about this?
As is common in Muslim communities across the United States, members of the faith here have been strongly critical of the U.S. invasion of Iraq. That feeling was not hidden at the Mosque Khadeeja prayer service Monday.

"We are praying for all those people held captive against their will in Iraq," said Nameed Ahmed, a member of the mosque's governing council, "including those being held by the U.S. soldiers. We are against those who are holding our brother in Iraq, but we are also against the war that sent Mr. Hassoun to fight there."

Where's Hassoun now? Accused Deserter on Navy 'Most Wanted' List

A Marine who was declared a deserter days before military court proceedings stemming from an earlier disappearance from Iraq has been placed on a list of "most wanted" fugitives. A mug shot of Marine Cpl. Wassef Ali Hassoun appeared this week on a Navy criminal justice Web site, which claims the missing corporal now uses the alias "Jafar." His placement on the Navy list puts him among a select group of fugitives, some of whom are being hunted on allegations of terrorism, murder, conspiracy to commit murder, indecent assault and rape.

Military officials say they have no information about the 24-year-old man's whereabouts, and have been unable to confirm news reports that Hassoun was in Canada or Lebanon. Officials at his base at Camp Lejeune (search), N.C., did not immediately return a message left after hours seeking comment.

Military officials say that Hassoun has no passport. And Mohamad Hassoun, a brother, confirmed reports from Lebanese government officials that the Marine is not allowed back in that country.

Hassoun's family has said they last heard from him Dec. 29.

When he failed to arrive at his base in Camp Lejeune, N.C., by Jan. 5, Hassoun was declared a deserter for a second time.

He was also charged with larceny - his 9 mm service revolver is missing.

Trolley Square Shooter Mom has Heart Attack

Talovic's Body to go back to Bosnia

The body of Sulejman Talovic - who shot nine people at Trolley Square, killing five - has been released to his family. The Talovic family is preparing to transport the body to Bosnia-Herzegovina for burial, his aunt said Friday.

Ajka Omerovic said her family is trying to complete paperwork to facilitate the overseas burial. She said the body, which is in a mortuary, will be transported "hopefully next week."

Talovic's family, who were forced from their hometown in 1993 at the height of the Bosnian war, emigrated to the United States in the late 1990s. The gunman's father, Suljo Talovic, has said he wants to bury his only son in Tuzla, which is Bosnia's most ethnically diverse city.

About mom:

Suljo Talovic said he and his wife are still trying to cope with Monday's events. He said his wife, Sabira, suffered a heart attack about 5 a.m. Tuesday, three hours after police informed them their son was the Trolley Square shooter.

Friday night was spent at the Al Noor mosque:

Friday, Suljo Talovic sat on his feet among about 90 other Muslim men and boys from Pakistan, Egypt, Sudan, Afghanistan and other countries as Tariq Kergaye, an Iraqi member of the mosque, offered a sermon that touched on the tragedy. Kergaye called the shooting "a low point for us Muslims."

How about a low point for us AMERICANS, Tariq??????

I wonder what else Sulieman looked up on the school computer? Jihadi Chat rooms?

And KSL-Radio reported Friday that Talovic violated school rules when he looked up AK-47s on the Internet in November 2004, after which he dropped out of school and went to work to help support his family. Talovic apparently had no close friends and lacked a social support network.

Oh BTW, Dad, appears to have a good support system:

Though Suljo Talovic is a regular at the Al-Noor mosque, other regulars said they didn't know Sulejman Talovic.

Also, according to this Dad was a member of the Bosnian Muslim Army.

Angry over leftovers - Imam beats wife, throws knife...

You know that Dinah has taken an interest in Imam Shuaib-ud Din. Here's a little more information on what went down in the domestic sphere prior to his removal as head of the Islamic Society of Greater Salt Lake.

Apparently angry with how his dinner was prepared, Imam Shuaib-ud Din on Jan. 2 punched and kicked his wife and beat her head against a freezer until the door broke, the woman alleged in a petition for a protective order. The next day, the imam - the recently fired religious leader of the Islamic Society of Greater Salt Lake - threw a kitchen knife at her and threatened to kill her, according to a petition for a temporary protective order filed last week by Ayesha Siddiqa Din.

The He-Man Woman Hater's of the Club aren't happy with the way the Islamic Society board has handled this. I have a feeling that they think the board should just have looked the other way and continue to let the Imam beat his wife like a drum.

The allegations of abuse - and the Islamic Society board's reaction to them - have sparked a schism in the Muslim community, with many members criticizing the way the board has handled the situation.

Okay, what kind of 'safety concerns' would prompt the need for secrecy here???? I mean Islam is a religion of peace and tolerance and brotherhood, right? I mean that's what they keep telling us anyway.
Shuaib-ud Din was not available for comment Monday. But a family representative in Chicago, where he has taken refuge, insisted that while there were marital concerns, the allegations in his wife's petition are "lies," inherently one-sided and do not tell the whole story.

The representative, who asked not be named out of safety concerns, said "This was an angry woman and [group of men] trying to create and use a situation. . . to get rid of him." Certain individuals in the Islamic Society "were worried about the influence he has and knew he was onto something that wasn't right," the representative said.

Something wasn't right....I'll say. It was suggested he 'leave the country'
The protective order was never served on Shuaib-ud Din, despite two attempts by the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office. His representative said that's because he was whisked off to the Salt Lake City International Airport - with the suggestion that he leave the country - by members of the Islamic Society on Jan. 13.

Domestic violence is a form of domestic terror... but I think there's more than that going on here folks!
According to the petition for the protective order, Ayesha Siddiqa Din said the abuse on Jan. 2 occurred when the imam came home from work and became upset when she reheated his dinner. "The actions by [Shuaib-ud Din] broke the freezer door which further enraged him and he continued to hit and kick her," the petition states.

The next day, Shuaib-ud Din took the only phone from the house, "threw a kitchen knife at her and threatened to kill her if she said anything to anyone," the petition states.

The representative speaking for Din countered that he was upset because his wife was serving the children, ages 5 and 6, spoiled food. The suggestion that he would throw a knife and threaten his wife's life is "absolutely absurd," said the representative. According to the order, it wasn't until Jan. 11, when the imam left his phone at home, that Ayesha Siddiqa Din called friends, who took her to the West Valley City police station to report the incidents. However, police Lt. Matt Elson said officers only got involved when they responded to the couple's home on Jan. 13 on a "domestic related incident." No arrests were made at that time and no warrants have been issued, Elson said.

Lies about whereabouts...
The imam was terminated from his position on Jan. 15 and has not been seen at the mosque or his home since Jan. 13, said Iqbal Hossain, a member of the Islamic Society's board of directors. Though Hossain said in a Friday afternoon address at West Valley City's Khadeeja mosque that he knew nothing about Shuaib-ud Din's whereabouts, a flurry of e-mails and calls to The Salt Lake Tribune refuted this claim, saying Hossain knew where the imam was and admitted he had lied Friday night at a closed meeting.

The real reason for the hijab is revealed to us.
In her petition, Ayesha Siddiqa Din told authorities that her husband "has been extremely violent towards her throughout their relationship and has often beat her leaving bruising and injuries that would have been visible had it not been for the fact she is required to wear a 'hijab,' " a religious head-covering.

Shuaib-ud Din's wife states in her petition that she is ending her relationship with the imam for fear of more violence and the safety of her children. She and the children are reportedly staying with friends in the Salt Lake Valley. She says her husband has "threatened to take her children out of the country if she ever tried to end the relationship" and has confiscated her "green card," ID and passport, the petition states.

The imam's representative maintained that these issues run much deeper than a story about domestic strife. "

Yeah, and I'm betting it involves domestic TERRORISM. I sure hope somebody is keeping a watch on this guy.

Australia: Muslim Terrorist's Mother Attacks Photographer
(Tip of the hat and swing of the purse to Western Resistance)

Saleh Jamal was being held in jail in Lebanon, awaiting extradition. He was finally brought back to Australia, and on September 28 2006 he appeared in court in Sydney. He was on trial for shooting a man named Elias Elias at a park in Greenacre in Sydney in October 1998, with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. Elias was shot in the foot, thigh, buttock and shoulder. Standing trial with him was Michael Kanaan, a triple-killer. Additionally, Jamal will face trial for being involved in a drive-by shooting upon Lakemba police station in Sydney in 1998.
On February 15, Saleh Jamal and his associate were both found guilty, and will be sentenced in March. The Australian
Daily Telegraph reports that neither Saleh nor Kanaan showed any emotion when sentenced. However, outside the courtroom, Lebanese-born Amina Jamal, Saleh's mother, decided to take out her anger on a photographer from the paper. She hurled her bag at the face of John Grainger, causing his face to bleed.

Mama should have been beating on Sonny boy Saleh instead of the photog because Sonny boy is a bad actor with a bad attitude. Lucky for us, he doesn't seem to be all that good at it. You can read more about his past terror exploits at Western Resistance.

Nasrallah hides, says we'll win 'someday'

From Naharnet News Desk:

Someday over the rainbow, you freak.

Hizbullah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah on Friday pledged that his followers will remain entrenched along the border with Israel, in Beirut and "everywhere in Lebanon" to achieve victory. Nasrallah, talking to supporters in south Beirut, said: "We will stay along the border, in Beirut and all over Lebanon. We are Lebanese citizens and this is our country.

"Hizbullah, Nasrallah stressed, "is capable of establishing presence in all the squares at the same time, and is ready to practice its jihad (holy war) in any sphere.""Don't despair," Nasrallah said, as his supporters waved clinched fists and chanted slogans supporting Hizbullah and its armed resistance.

Read it all. This guy is just begging for a butt kicking. Why the Lebanese don't just take him out, I'll never know. The Israelis need to start being a little more proactive here, too. This is all my glorious opinion, of course....

Meanwhile back in Kosovo....

Islamic Terror in Kosovo

An Albanian Muslim extremist from Kosovo was recently arrested after allegedly plotting to blow up the parliament building in Montenegro. 55-year-old Dodu L. was arrested by Austrian authorities last month while trying to board a flight in Vienna. 12 other ethnic Albanians were reportedly involved in the plot.

There is growing concern that
Kosovo, a disputed region in the southern province of Serbia, is emerging as a bastion of radical Islam.

Thank you, Bill Clinton.

More Islamic Family Values....

Daughter sold to pay for eye operation.

A Pakistani man sold his 10-year-old daughter for $500 to pay for his eye operation, a police official in the southern province of Sindh said on Friday.

The father Noor Mohammad had agreed to hand his daughter over to a fellow villager, Gul Mohammad Kalohi, once she reached puberty, according to Abdul Hadi, district police officer for Badin, about 250km east of Karachi.

"It is a shameful incident and has taken place," said Hadi. "We were informed about this incident from a complaint made by a relative of the father."

Police have completed their investigation of the case, but no charges have been laid yet as they were still determining which district had jurisdiction as Kolai village, near Tando Bagho town, lay on a boundary.

Zia Awan, a noted rights lawyer, said under the children's protection law in Sindh the father could be sentenced to a year in prison.

One year???? Sheesh.

Such cases are relatively common in rural parts of Pakistan, where feudal and tribal customs prevail. Men either sell or exchange their daughters to pay off debts or settle disputes.

It's Sharia, folks. C'mon. You can say it. Just suck it up and spit it out:

sha-ri-a.

Oh, really now...

Per World Net Daily: Terrorism Not Ruled Out in Salt Lake case

While the FBI stated it has found no evidence Islamic terrorism was a motive in the Salt Lake City mall shooting, investigators have not ruled it out, a police spokeswoman told WND.
FBI agent Patrick Kiernan declared to reporters Wednesday he had no reason to believe the random, dispassionately executed murder of five people by 18-year-old Bosnian Muslim immigrant Sulejman Talovic Monday night had anything to do with Islamic terrorism, calling it "just unexplainable."

But Salt Lake Police spokeswoman Robin Snyder told WND the FBI is still working with her department on the case, and investigators continue to explore the terrorism angle.

"We will pursue every single lead," she said. "There is not one lead we are not willing to pursue. At this point, we don't have any idea of any motive. Nothing is ruled out."

That may be the good news in this case. The bad news? Additional tidbits from the article:

Snyder told WND, however, she was not aware family members say Talovic often attended Friday prayers at the Al-Noor mosque, about a block from the site of the shooting, according to the Salt Lake Tribune...

Harvey Kushner, a counter-terrorism adviser to the federal government, told WND he also sees the FBI's response as typical.

"It follows a pattern where media, and often even law enforcement itself, would rather dismiss it as an act of a crazed gunman and ignore the person's background, his religious beliefs," said Kushner, chairman of the Department of Criminal Justice at Long Island University and author of "Holy War on the Home Front: The Secret Islamic Terror Network in the United States."

Some analysts have posed the possibility that since the objective of terrorism, after all, is to terrorize the public, the U.S. government has attempted to diffuse or take away its effect by publicly dismissing it as a source of violent acts...

Tefft says there is some logic to that, but believes if it were true, it "would show more intelligence in the psychological warfare arena than we've shown to date."

When the FBI uses extreme groups such as the Council on American-Islamic Relations as sensitivity trainers, "that's ignorance and political correctness, that's not a deliberate psychological warfare tactic," he said.

"I suspect they are just being politically correct to avoid a backlash by Muslims..."

Alas, this is probably closer to the truth of the matter!

If the Casbah be rocking, don't bother knocking!

Another day. Another Iranian explosion????

Bomb explodes in Tehran near last blast

TEHRAN, Iran - A bomb exploded in southeastern Iran late Friday, near the site where an explosion this week killed 11 members of Iran's Revolutionary Guards, and clashes broke out afterward between Iranian police and insurgents, Iranian news agencies reported.

"The sound of a bomb explosion was heard in one of Zahedan's streets," IRNA, Iran's official news agency, reported. The report gave no further details, including whether there were casualties. The semiofficial Fars news agency said the explosion was at a school and was followed by clashes.

"The insurgents began shooting at people after the explosion. Clashes are continuing between police and the armed insurgents," the Fars agency said.

Oh, and about that previous bombing of those 11 Iranian Revolutionary guards? There's been a confession and you guessed it. The US was behind it! (ed. note: What? No Joooooos?)

"Separately, IRNA quoted an unnamed "responsible official" late Friday as saying that one of those arrested in Wednesday's bombing has "confessed" that the attacks were part of alleged U.S. plans to provoke ethnic and religious violence in Iran.

"This person who was behind the bombing confessed that those who trained them spoke in English," IRNA quoted the official as saying. "

Update from Breitbart:

"Fars quoted the governor of Zahedan, Hasan Ali Nouri, as saying the blast was a "sound bomb explosion"_ a device that creates a loud boom but that usually does not cause casualties."

Unh-huh. Right.

Curses! Foiled Again!

Plane hijacking foiled by fast-thinking pilot

A fast-thinking pilot fooled a gunman who had hijacked a plane flying from Africa to the Canary Islands. The pilot braked hard on landing then quickly accelerated to knock the man down so travellers could pounce on him, Spanish officials said today.

A little more detail here:

Along the way, speaking to the hijacker, the pilot realized the man did not speak French. So he used the plane's public address system to warn the passengers in French of the ploy he was going to try: brake hard upon landing, then speed up abruptly. The idea was to catch the hijacker off balance, and have crew members and men sitting in the front rows of the plane jump him, the Spanish official said.

The pilot also warned women and children to move to the back of the plane in preparation for the subterfuge, the official said.

It worked. The man was standing in the middle aisle when the pilot carried out his maneuver, and he fell to the floor, dropping one of his two 7 mm pistols. Flight attendants then threw boiling water from a coffee machine in his face and at his chest, and some 10 people jumped on the man and beat him, the Spanish official said.

The hijackers name? Mohamed Abderraman. But there's no terror here. No siree.

"The hijacking alarmed Spanish officials because a trial of 29 people accused in the Madrid terrorist bombings of 2004 had begun the same day in Madrid. But the man's motives were not terrorism; he wanted the plane to fly to France so he could request political asylum."

Oh, and pay no attention to the fact that the hijacking occurred just days after al Qaeda called for attacks on Mauritania's rulers.

"In an audio message quoted by Arab media this week, al Qaeda's second-in-command Ayman al-Zawahri said Muslims should attack Mauritania's leaders for recognising Israel. "I call especially on our people in Mauritania ... to take a sincere jihadi stand against treacherous rulers who recognised Israel and betrayed the Islamic nation," Zawahri said.

Hey, old dirty tramp face al-Zawahiri. Give it up. That hijacking thing isn't ever going to work again, pal.

Utah imam is fired amid allegations of domestic violence, shirked duty

Imam Shuaib-ud Din has been terminated from his position as religious leader of the Islamic Society of Greater Salt Lake amid allegations of domestic violence. Police said they responded to a "domestic-related incident" at Din's home a week ago, and the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office reported an attempt to serve a protective order against him on Thursday. Contacted by phone, a relative of the imam said he was in Chicago now but would not comment on the allegations. The relative acknowledged that Din and his wife were having marital problems but said the imam was driven out of town by disgruntled members of the society's board.

Given the Muslim tradition of being a he-man woman haters club, you can only wonder what kind of beating the Imam could have given that poor woman that would cause the members of the society's board to run him outof town on a rail, right? Listen to this:

The imam's relative said that by about 8 a.m. Jan. 13, Din already had left Salt Lake City after being dropped off at Salt Lake City International Airport by board members who took him there and suggested he leave the country. With no immediate flights available to Chicago, the imam rented a car, drove to Las Vegas and caught a flight to Chicago, his relative said."

Oh and about that stuff he did?

The board, of which Hossain is a former president, met after the allegations surfaced and requested a meeting with Din, Hossain said. But the imam, whom the board did reach by phone, never showed up for the meeting, Hossain said. "To this date," the board "remains unaware of his whereabouts," Hossain said.

Din's relative, who asked not to be identified out of safety concerns, said he left town because the board had forced him to.

The relative said the abrupt departure - one that left the imam "in shock" - was driven by something more than his marital issues. The imam, the relative said, had recently raised concerns about board finances, the exclusion of women from the board and the housing of "suspicious" individuals in the mosque."

This all sounds very, very suspect to me. I first tweaked to this Din guy when I was looking up info on the Al Noor Mosque, home mosque of the Trolley Square shooter.

I am happy to report that Din has been arrested. You can read more about it here but this will give you the flavor.

"He was charged with aggravated assault, a third-degree felony, as well as simple assault and domestic violence in the presence of a child, both class B misdemeanors. The charges stem from allegations made by Ayesha Siddiqa Din, Din's wife, accusing him of slamming her head into a freezer at their home Jan. 2 and beating and kicking her in front of one of their two children. The next day, Din allegedly threw a knife at her in the home and threatened to kill her if she spoke about the abuse, court documents say.

Friends of Ayesha Siddiqa Din took her to West Valley City Police Department headquarters Jan. 13, 11 days after the assault was said to have occurred. There, she told investigators that Din had abused her throughout their seven-year marriage. The Din's wife does not speak English, so a family friend interpreted for her."

Oh no they didn't...

According to Infidel Extraordinaire, Ms. Debbie Schlussel:

"I'm learning more about the Muslim Trolley Square terrorist murderer, Sulejman Talovic. Yet, the Mainstream Media continue to ignore his religious background. Worse, it sounds like Salt Lake City police are getting in on the denial act. They refused to seize or search Talovic's computer, as terrorism expert and investigator Bill Warner points out."

And she adds this tantalizing but as yet, unverified info:

Then, there's this e-mail I got from a reader in Salt Lake. Trying to verify it, but if even half of it is true (and I know the part about the people in the gift shop is--they were there buying Valentine's Day gifts) (ed. note: a fact that was reported early here at Dinah Lord). . .

I read your article on the terrorist attack at Trolley Square in Salt Lake City with interest. I knew as soon as I spoke with my friends Monday night in law enforcement (the ones who actually killed the shooter) that this was a terrorist attack.

According to my friends on the SWAT team who responded to the scene first, the terrorist killed four individuals inside a gift shop Jihad execution style. He actually made them kneel down. Then he put the gun barrel to the back of their heads and killed each one of them one by one.

The day after the shooting, I observed a man dressed as a Muslim cleric being arrested by the West Valley Police on his way to the Kaadeeja Islamic Center in West Valley City. My friends in law enforcement confirmed that this man is the Uncle of Sulejman Talovic."

Here are some pictures of the Khadeeja Islamic Center.

Read this "press release" from the Muslim Forum of Utah about the Trolley Square Shootings here.

PRESS RELEASE: Trolley Square Shooting Not Related to Islam & Muslims 2/14/07

The tragic Trolley Square Shooting that happened recently was not related to Islam and Muslims. Our hearts go out to the families that were hurt in this event. The people hurt and killed could have been our own families and friends that attend the nearby Mosque (ed. note: the same Mosque attended by young Sulieman.) so we are happy that the perpetrator was killed before he could hurt anybody else in the community.

Our Bosnian contacts in the community say that Sulejman Talovic, an 18 year old high school drop out and Bosnian immigrant, was a young man who lived a hermit type of lifestyle. Political terrorism is not a factor, given his lifestyle and lack of adherence to Islam. He was not known to have been religious, but infact secular in nature and never attended any of the local Mosques and did not associate with the community. (ed.note: untrue and get your barf bag ready for the rest of this!) Even if he had been religious, that does not represent the communty, because his actions were anti-Muslim and hurt Muslims more than anybody. Some say he was from a gypsy background. There are alot of American, Mexican, African-American, Bosnian, Somalian, Saudi, Arab, Afghani, Turkish, Iraqi, Lebanese, Jordanian, Palestinian Pakistani, Persian, Iranian and other youth that are secular and drink alcohol, fornicate, gamble, and go to clubs in Utah. They are not representative of the overall Muslim community within Utah or abroad. If he was from a non-Muslim background, his faith would never have been mentioned in the news and media. (ed. note: Let the seething begin!)

States Hit by Islamic Terror Attacks since 1999

Kissing Cousins Redux

Dear readers, you know Dinah has long been saying that one of the biggest root causes of terror is consanguinity. (See Kissing Cousins)Stanley Kurtz takes an in depth look at the topic and it is definitely worth a look see. Here's a tease:

"... as we learned in “Marriage and the Terror War,” large sections of the Muslim world prefer to arrange marriages between “parallel cousins,” cousins who are members of the same paternal family line.

In the first part of this piece, I showed that, on a world scale, the radical form of in-marriage represented by the union of parallel cousins is highly unusual. Parallel-cousin marriage is confined almost exclusively to the region once ruled by the original eighth-century Islamic empire, and this involuted form of marriage stands in sharp contrast to the relative value placed on out-marriage, inter-group alliance, and interchange favored by almost every other culture in the world."

Marriage and the Terror War
Marriage and the Terror War II

The series is to be continued and Stanley leaves us with this:

"The “self-sealing” character of Islam is part and parcel of a broader and more deeply rooted social pattern. And parallel-cousin marriage is more than just an interesting but minor illustration of that broader theme. If there’s a “self-sealing” tendency in Muslim social life, cousin marriage is the velcro. In contemporary Europe, perhaps even more than in the Middle East, cousin marriage is at the core of a complex of factors blocking assimilation and driving the war on terror. So I shall take up the question of cousin marriage in Europe in the next series of essays."

No terror here, no siree.

Within 24 hours the FBI had announced that there was no terror link in the Trolley Square Shooting in Utah. My question: What has led them to that conclusion?

A conclusion that was reached despite the kid's being a Bosnian Muslim refugee who had Srebenica street cred. At the age of 5, he and his family fled their home as Serb forces overran their village of Talovici. He moved to his Utah in 1998. He dropped out of high school at 16 to work to earn money to support his family; a mother and father and three sisters. A family who is being very cooperative with the authorities.

From an article at the Salt Lake Tribune:

"In an interview with KUTV 2 News, the gunman's father could not make sense of his son's violence at Trolley Square. He said his son did not take drugs. "I think somebody push him. I don't know. I'm almost crazy with what happened. Maybe somebody sell gun or give gun."

The ATF admits they haven't been able to find out where he obtained the weapons and ammo. Yet. But they do know that it doesn't have anything to do with Islamoterror.

That brings us to his mosque. Well, until he started working at Aramark Uniform Services (hmm. I wonder if they are missing any police, fire or airport security uniforms?), he often attended Friday prayers at the Al-Noor mosque on 700 East in Salt Lake City, located a block away from the Trolley Square Mall. Also from the Salt Lake Tribune article:

"Imam Ali Mohamed, the spiritual leader at Al-Noor, said he does not know Talovic. "I know some Bosnians, but specifically this person, I don't know him," said Mohamed, a Somali who has been in Utah since 2000.

Up to 200 people turn out for Friday prayers and there is not much socializing, said Maung Maung, who attends the mosque.

Talovic's Muslim faith prompted questions about a possible political motivation for his killing spree, but the FBI in Salt Lake City said Wednesday it has no evidence that politics played a role. "

Politics???? WTF. It's not politics, it's ISLAM you morons!!!!

(Taking a deep, calming, cleansing breath here)

Bullsh*&.

Infidel Bloggers Alliance has some VERY interesting linkage about the FBI's seemingly premature CONCLUSION that no terror is involved.

Just like there was no terror involved in (and a big wet, thank you to FReeper Beckwith for this list!):

Ali R. Warrayat An Arizona Home Depot employee jumped out of the car’s path. To drown out the man’s yells, Warrayat reached over to his car radio and blasted Arabic music before crashing through the front doors.

Kuala Lumpur (dpa) - A leading Malaysian Muslim cleric has suggested that all women should be fitted with chastity belts as a deterrent to rape and incest, a news report said Friday.

Abu Hassan Al-Hafiz, an influential cleric from the northeastern Terengganu state, said that women were most safe from sexual predators if they donned some form of barrier to their sexual organs. "We have even come across a number of unusual sex cases, where even senior citizens and children are not spared. The best way to avert sex perpetrators is to wear protection," Abu Hassan said in a sermon late Thursday, quoted by the Star daily.

"My intention is not to offend women but to safeguard them from sex maniacs. Besides, husbands could also feel more secure, if you know what I mean." (ed. note: "If you know what I mean." I wonder if he gave everybody a wink as he said that.)

Abu Hassan said that the practise of women wearing chastity belts in Malaysia could be traced to as recent as the mid-1960s.

My Throbbing, Global Warming Valentine to Al Gore

First Kathmandu snow for 60 years

Nepal is home to Mt Everest but Kathmandu lies much lowerSnow has fallen in Nepal's capital, Kathmandu, for the first time in more than 60 years. Although the Himalayan nation is home to Mt Everest, Kathmandu lies in a valley and temperatures there seldom fall below freezing point.
Officials said that the snow interlude was only brief - lasting for about 45 minutes on Wednesday. Rain, fog and ice have disrupted transport in many parts of the country, causing at least one death.

Local Kantipur television said snow had not fallen in the capital since 1944. Housewife Manju Shrestha, 45, playing with her young children, said: "I have never seen it snow in Kathmandu in all my life."

Dennis Miller: My funny Valentine.

Next to the Lord and Master, of course.

The Global Valentine Report v.2

This from Malaysia: "Unmarried couples might come together and mingle with each other in unacceptable ways." (gasp!)

From Brunei: "In neighboring Brunei, spiritual leaders used mosque sermons last Friday to express concerns that couples "might not just send greetings and gifts but ... go beyond the limit and even engage in promiscuous activities." (say it isn't so!)

OMG - Is there a moderate Muslim in Qatar? Now it's my turn to gasp!

‘Muslims not banned’ from celebrating Valentine’s Day - Islam does not ban Muslims from exchanging gifts and flowers on Valentine’s Day, Dr Abdul Hamid al-Ansari, former dean of the Shariah College at the Qatar University, has said. He called upon Muslims to join the world in celebrating happy occasions.

“There would be no harm if Muslims celebrated the Valentine’s Day by exchanging gifts or greeted their loved ones or friends on this day. No scriptural text bans Muslim youth from taking part in enjoyable activities on that day as long as they are in compliance with the main teachings of Islam,” Dr al-Ansari told Gulf Times yesterday.

He criticised some Muslim scholars who called for a clampdown on any such celebration, saying such people were “isolationists and advocates of backwardness”. “I think these isolationists are terrified. We cannot isolate ourselves from the rest of the world. We should not listen to these ‘terrified voices’ which seek to reinforce our miseries by opposing any kind of enjoyment. Islam does not ban Muslims from enjoying life.

Love is in the air in Bangladesh! Love Triumphs over Taboos...

Love was in the air at several Dhaka universities on Wednesday as students held concerts and cuddled at rare events to celebrate Valentine's Day in majority Muslim Bangladesh.

Up to 10,000 students at Dhaka University, the country's biggest, attended an open air concert despite pouring rain. Some even stole off to hug and kiss on campus in a city where public displays of affection are considered taboo.

In the 'Veranda of Mecca' lovers are told to avoid dancing and Going out for Valentines

Indonesians in the staunchly Muslim province of Aceh can celebrate Valentine’s Day, but should avoid dancing or going out, and certainly any intimacy before marriage, an Islamic leader said on Wednesday.

Aceh, on the tip of Sumatra island at sprawling Indonesia’s western extreme, is the only province in Indonesia with the right to adopt strict Islamic sharia laws in the judicial system.

‘In our teachings, being together with the opposite sex, drinking, gambling should not be celebrated on Valentine’s Day in Aceh,’ Muslim Ibrahim, chairman of the leading body on Islamic affairs in the province, told Reuters.

He said that Valentine’s Day in Aceh was associated with pre-marital relationships.

‘As long as all the things (forbidden in Muslim teaching) do not happen on Valentine’s day, I don’t think it is a problem,’ he said.

‘They may celebrate Valentine’s as long as they do not go out, not drink, and do not do what violates Muslim teachings.’

What fun would that be?

The Global Valentine Report v.1

Indian Valentine Couple beaten... Gee, what a surprise. A MUSLIM women's group is behind it.

A Muslim women's group in revolt-hit Indian Kashmir burned greeting cards and beat young couples to stop people celebrating Valentine's Day, witnesses said on Wednesday.

The separatist Dukhtaran-e-Millat (Daughters of the Nation) raided restaurants and showered blows on some couples and then burned cards during a rally in the summer capital's centre, said an AFP reporter.

The group, along with an Islamic association called the Forum Against Social Evils, regularly wage morality campaigns against movies and other emblems of popular Western culture they deem un-Islamic.

"We will not allow Western culture to take root in Muslim-majority Kashmir," chanted several dozen marchers led by Dukhtaran-e-Millat chief Aasiya Andrabi.

Kashmir's Muslim population is socially conservative, but in recent years couples have openly dated in parks, restaurants and internet cafes.

The forum, an umbrella group that includes Dukhtaran-e-Millat, warned in newspaper ads last week that it would attack anyone found marking Valentine's Day in Kashmir where Islamic separatists have been battling New Delhi's rule since 1989."

It was hardly a Hallmark moment for the Hindus either:

"As a Valentine's Day card smoldered, more than 100 members of the Hindu extremist group Shiv Sena chanted "Death to Valentine's Day" and "People who celebrate Valentine's Day should be pelted with shoes!"

Valentine's Day has in the past two decades made strong inroads in India as the country has slowly opened itself up to the outside world - its economic boom bringing in not just foreign investment but also aspects of Western culture virtually unknown here a quarter century ago.

Across the country, stores stock heart-shaped balloons and chocolates, restaurants offer Valentine's Day specials and young lovers find refuge from prying eyes in the parks.

It's a state of affairs that enrages Hindu and Muslim hard-liners, who on Wednesday vented just as they do every Valentine's Day - burning cards, holding rallies and even threatening to beat couples caught canoodling in public, a strict no-no for those who claim to defend traditional Indian values.

"This is a conspiracy to misguide the young people of our country," said Jai Bhagwan Goel, chief of the Shiv Sena's north India branch.

In his hand, a card with an image of a Victorian couple pictured in a tepid peck under a parasol went up in flames.

"We have come to know that in America, even unmarried girls as young as 11 or 12 years have become mothers ... and every second man there is divorced," Goel told reporters after reducing several greeting cards to a small pile of ash. "This is their culture - it cannot be accepted here."

The Pakistanis sucked it up and celebrated anyway: Pakistanis mark Valentine’s despite threats and stick wielding Muzzies!!!!

Many young, urban Pakistanis ignored threats from religious conservatives and celebrated St Valentine’s Day on Wednesday with gifts of red roses, heart-shaped cakes and chocolates.

Some religious groups in the predominantly Muslim country have condemned celebrating the Christian saint’s day as un-Islamic, and warned of damnation for those who do, but that didn’t put off the romantic, or businesses keen to cash in.

‘What is Valentine’s Day except expressing one’s love for someone. What is un-Islamic about it?’ asked Huma, a woman student queuing up at a courier firm in the city of Karachi to place a Valentine’s order.

Indeed, Huna. Tell it to those Muslim fools in Multan.

But in the central city of Multan the youth wing of the powerful Jamaat-e-Islami religious party sent out stick-wielding volunteers looking to catch any unmarried couples celebrating the day in parks, hotels and guest houses.

‘The government is doing nothing to stop these un-Islamic practices but if we catch anyone we will not spare them,’ said Babar Man, leader of the youth group.

Maulana Amir Hamza, a senior member of the Jamaat ud Daawa, an Islamist aid group linked to the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba militant organisation, said Valentine’s Day was an attempt to corrupt Muslim youth.

‘There is no mention of Valentine’s day in Islamic history yet the government is patronising such Western concepts in an Islamic country,’ Hamza said.

‘Those who celebrate it will go to hell,’ he said.

A Valentine from Michael Ledeen about Iran

Call me crazy, but I'm thinking Mr. Ledeen is on to something here in this sweetheart of a column. Make that I HOPE he is onto something when he says this:

But the really big Iranian news came from Europe with the announcement that the EU’s experts have concluded that they have totally failed to deter the Iranians’ nuclear-weapons program. "At some stage we must expect that Iran will acquire the capacity to enrich uranium on the scale required for a weapons program," according to an internal EU document quoted by the Financial Times. As the FT glumly reports, all EU governments have been informed of this conclusion, along with the (obvious) analysis: "the problems with Iran will not be resolved through economic sanctions alone." Or by economic bribes, either. The EU, along with the U.S., have offered all manner of seductive goodies to the mullahs, but it didn’t work, as they surely knew from the beginning. Everybody knew.

Or did they? One has to wonder whether the president and the secretary of State knew it would fail. They certainly gave it unrestrained rhetorical support. If you buy the theory that W’s foreign policy is simply the application of winning poker to geopolitics, then you will think that, just as in the run-up to Iraq, he simply outwaited the Europeans. Knowing diplomacy had no chance, he let them play out the string. Now they must fold, and he is ratcheting up the ante against the mullahs.

This would also explain the timing of our newfound toughness. With the failure of the EU initiative, there was reduced concern that the Europeans would attack us for stepping up the pressure on the Iranians. This is reflected in a series of economic measures taken by European financial institutions, which will make life in Iran even more difficult. It would be really great if somebody found where Khamenei and the other oligarchs have stashed their private loot (I think a lot of it is in China, by the way)...and put it in escrow for a free Iran.

One can dream, can’t one? One can even dream that we will act faster. Please.

Yes, please.

Happy Valentine's Day

Hey Rep Ellison - Where is the love???

Rep. Ellison calls the cops to snuff Tancredo’s cigar

Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.) believes it is his right as a Muslim to be sworn into Congress with the Quran. But apparently, the freshman lawmaker doesn’t believe it’s Rep. Tom Tancredo’s (R-Colo.) right to smoke a cigar in his congressional office.

Ellison’s office called the Capitol Hill Police on Tancredo last Wednesday night as Tancredo was in his office smoking a cigar. The lawmakers have neighboring offices on the first floor of the Longworth House Office Building.

Tancredo was still stunned a day later. “It’s very bizarre,” said Tancredo, who has never met Ellison. “Seemed to me not a good way to say hello.”

And let’s face it. Calling the cops on a colleague takes the cake for the nerviest behavior so far among members of this year’s freshman class of Congress.

This is how it all went down. On Wednesday evening, around 6 p.m., Tancredo was preparing for his trip to Mississippi. And as he so often does, he was unwinding with a cigar.
Soon enough, however, a police officer walked in to check on the smoke. The officer told Tancredo that the officer came because he was required to do so and not because the officer wanted to. The officer had already told Ellison that Tancredo was permitted to smoke in his office. The visit was more a formality."

Love rumour sparks Muslim-Christian clash in Egypt

Reading this headline makes you think that the Muslims and Christians are going at it tooth and nail, doesn't it? Hah! No. That's not it at all. And what a surprise - it's another case of Muslim outrage and aggression against peace loving Christians. Read on, my fellow traveler of love and be glad you are living and loving in the land of the free and the home of the brave.

"Groups of Egyptian Muslims set fire to Christian-owned shops in southern Egypt after hearing rumours of a love affair between a Muslim woman and a Coptic Christian man, security sources and a witness said on Tuesday.

Eight Muslim men were arrested in the town of Armant, around 600 km (375 miles) south of Cairo, on suspicion of taking part in arson attacks on four stores and a mini-van owned by Coptic Christians, the security sources said.

The rumours began on Saturday and calm was restored by Tuesday, with security forces deployed in the town as a precaution, one security official said.

Traditional Islamic law allows Muslim men to marry Christian women but not Christian men to marry Muslim women. Romances across the divide are one of the main sources of tension between Egypt's two main religious communities.

Hala Botros, a Christian blogger from the region, said Copts in Armant were still scared to leave their homes.

"The situation has improved slightly but people go out only if they really have to," Botros, who regularly reports attacks on Christians on her blog under the name Hala el-Masry, told Reuters by telephone.

Coptic Christians make up to 10 percent of the about 75 million Egyptians, most of whom are Sunni Muslims.

Relations between the two communities are usually peaceful but there are sporadic outbreaks of violence. In 1999, 22 people were killed in communal strife in southern Egypt.

In April, a 45-year old Muslim man stabbed a Coptic Christian in the Mediterranean city of Alexandria, sparking three days of sectarian clashes. Egypt ruled in June the man was mentally ill after a medical evaluation without a trial. "

Utah Mall Murders - A junior jihadi's deadly version of cupid?

Okay, I've been kinda following this Utah mall shooter deal with half an ear. Heard that the shooter was a Bosnian Muslim youth named Sulieman who was a 'good boy' and that piqued my interest. Wondered if it was a case of Sudden Jihadi Syndrome then heard a report that several hours prior to the carnage the kid had been bragging to his co-workers about his weaponry. Ahh. Must just be a nut, I thought. Then last night I read that three of the five victims were shot in a greeting card store - so close to Valentine's Day - you know it was crowded. Adding that all up made me flipflop back to the possibility of sudden jihadi syndrome...

Could this be a Muslim version of the Valentine's Day Massacre?

Just to review, here's a Daniel Pipes article from 2004 that gives you the lowdown on Muslims and Valentine's Day.

"The Saudi religious authorities issued an edict indicating that "There are only two holidays in Islam - Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha - and any other holidays ... are inventions which Muslims are banned from" and calls again on the kingdom's subjects to "shun" Valentine's Day this year. In keeping with this prohibition, the Saudi religious police monitor stores selling roses and other gifts associated with the holiday. They have even arrested women for wearing red on Valentine's Day."

"Saudi authorities are hardly alone in their fear and loathing of a fourteenth-century holiday named after the patron saint of lovers. In Iran last year, the police ordered shops to remove heart-and-flower decorations, not to speak of images of couples embracing.

In Pakistan, the Jamaat-e-Islami party, an Islamist organization, calls for a ban on Valentine's Day. One of its leaders dismisses it as "a shameful day" when Westerners "are just fulfilling and satisfying their sex thirst."

In Malaysia, a mufti thunders against the day: "We Muslims do not need such a culture or practice, which is clearly against the teachings of our religion [which are] complete, perfect and credible."

In the United States, Imam Jamal Said of the Bridgeview mosque outside Chicago condemns Valentine's Day (as well as Thanksgiving) as a non-Islamic holiday.

Nor do you have to be Muslim to hate Valentine's Day. In India, a leader of the radical Hindu group Shiv Sena has condemned the holiday as "nothing but a Western onslaught on India's culture to attract youth for commercial purposes." Shiv Sena members followed up by stealing Valentine's Day cards from a shop in central Bombay which they ceremonially burned in a bonfire. They also harassed hand-holding couples and threatened to shave the heads and beat young lovers who exchanged Valentine's Day cards and gifts.

This rage responds to the soaring popularity of the holiday in majority-Muslim countries and India. Restaurants promote Valentine's Day dinners, hotels offer balls, and stores advertise flowers, chocolates, and other gifts. Florists sell bounties of roses and barbers cut hearts into men's head hair. Television shows organize love-letter competitions. Newspapers publish amorous messages and offer advice on the best places to tryst (naming cafes, roofs, parks, and rickshaw taxis). Internet dating services enjoy a surge in usage, phone companies log added long-distance calling."

Hey Mullahmen, here's a memo for you. There's no stopping modern love.

Ode to All My Lefty friends

DEADLY DILLY DALLY: a poem by Joseph Crowley of the American Thinker

I cut and I paste till I'm blue in the face,
As Chamberlain mimes repeat his mistakes.

While fiddlers fiddle and Iran makes haste,
And most politicians make nothing but waste.

Last time it was Adolf this time it's Mahmoud
The only thing different's the value of crude.

There's no way around it we have to conclude
If we don't stand firm we'll all surely be screwed

Dear Readers - Blogging has been light as of late. Recent political events have caused a vague depression to settle over my shoulders like a wet wool blanket. The depression weighs me down but the time spent away from blogging gives me time to take a longer view. This is a good thing. It also allowed me to finish my summer reading: The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich and Until The Final Hour: Hitler's Last Secretary.

But Dinah is a perfectionist and the fact that she has been having a hard time accessing a lot of so called "right wing" leaning websites using her google based browser keeps bugging her. So as she was checking the LGF feed to see if it was working. Wonder of wonder, miracle of miracles. It was. Powerline is still in the crapper (pardon my Edwards' blogger potty mouth) as is some of my other faves, Right Wing, Hot Air to name a few. It's weird. Anywho. So Dinah saw this post about London Fashion Week. And you know Dinah and fashion. It snapped her out of her stinking thinking stupor long enough to post this.

Baby steps people.

(More on that stinking thinking business later...more islamofashion too!)
