Happy Kerry-ween!
When I asked Patrick Hogan, Metropolitan Airports Commission spokesman, for his explanation, he forwarded a fatwa, or religious edict, that the MAC had received. The fatwa proclaims that "Islamic jurisprudence" prohibits taxi drivers from carrying passengers with alcohol, "because it involves cooperating in sin according to the Islam."Read it all here It's an eye-opener. Hats off to Katherine Kersten of the Minneapolis Star for digging around and getting the real story. The article concludes with this sobering statement:
The fatwa, dated June 6, 2006, was issued by the "fatwa department" of the Muslim American Society, Minnesota chapter, and signed by society officials. (ed. note: Fatwa department - LOL)
The society is mediating the conflict between the cab drivers and the MAC. That seems odd, since the society itself clearly has a stake in the controversy's outcome.
How did the MAC connect with the society? "The Minnesota Department of Human Rights recommended them to us to help us figure out how to handle this problem," Hogan said.
Omar Jamal, director of the Somali Justice Advocacy Center, thinks he knows why the society is promoting a "no-alcohol-carry" agenda with no basis in Somali culture. "MAS is an Arab group; we Somalis are African, not Arabs," he said. "MAS wants to polarize the world, create two camps. I think they are trying to hijack the Somali community for their Middle East agenda. They look for issues they can capitalize on, like religion, to rally the community around. The majority of Somalis oppose this, but they are vulnerable because of their social and economic situation."
"...we now have reason to believe that the issue is only a prologue to a larger drama playing out in Minnesota and the United States."
PARIS - Mixing rap music with memories of France's revolutionary past, youths from poor neighborhoods of largely Muslim and African descent marched through Paris on Wednesday to present a collection of 20,000 complaints to lawmakers. The demonstrators held ragged-looking notebooks filled with complaints while crossing southern Paris toward the Assembly, the lower house of parliament, after a stop at the Senate. (ed. note: Presentation is everything folks and ragged never works)
Azouz evidently has inside info and the disaffected French yutes have moved up to buses from cars. Will bombing trains and flying planes into buildings be next?: France boosts security after arson attacksPolice said the violence, however, was not driven by Islamic groups. (ed. note: RIGHT.)
AC-Le Feu was created shortly after the three weeks of unrest sparked by the deaths on Oct. 27, 2005, of two young boys of African descent who were electrocuted in a power substation in Clichy-sous-Bois, northeast of Paris, while hiding from police. The group, whose name is a play on words for "enough fire," crisscrossed France in two painted minibuses in a monthslong tour of 120 suburbs and towns to meet with young and old and document their worries in their "Book of Grievances." (ed. note: Two painted minibuses? Holy Hippie Van!)
"I'm worried because not only has the French society's attitude not changed but I think it has even worsened," he said in an interview with AP Television News. "A large part of French society disdains the suburbs." Dilain noted that not a single government minister attended the opening this month of a high-profile photo exhibit of life in Clichy-sous-Bois. "No one. No one. No one came," he said. (ed. note: They were afraid.)
Azouz Begag, the government minister for equal opportunities, warned against saying nothing has changed since the riots. "Then the message will be that you can break France," he told reporters. "If you want fire, there will be fire."(ed.note: In my experience lawless rioters do not make good employees.)
Ex-Prime Minister and Presidential candidate Laurent Fabius blames Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy for the renewed violence spreading among French youths. Ex-Social Affairs Minister François Fillon declared that France's very own social cohesion is at risk. Other than capitulating by re-routing bus lines, ignoring the role played by France's second most popular religion (which is undoubtedly the most practiced), and doing everything possible to not hurt a single rioter (because that would get them really angry), the media is being asked to hush-up the whole One Year Anniversary thing because if the media doesn't talk about violence past, the hope is that violence present will somehow go away by itself.

1.) She was ignorant of the scholarly Islamic interpretations?Well after seeing the above picture over at the Mining Journal I decided I had better add another possible reason...
2.) She was ignorant of the fundamental separation of church and state underpinnings of our system of constitutional governance?
3.) She was using the veil as a political symbol of Muslim power (ala the Black Power salute of the Black Panthers back in the day)?
Ginnnah Muhammad learned the basics of running a business in a 12-month course on entrepreneurship, but it wasn't until she opened her Oak Park aromatherapy store nearly three years ago that she learned what it really takes to run her own shop. Her first lesson: Just because your business is open, it doesn't mean customers will come. Slow foot traffic in her office building forced her to look for other venues such as churches, hospitals and community colleges to sell her scented oils, lotions and body salts. "I was hoping people would say, 'Let's give her a chance,'" said Muhammad, 40, who now gets about half of her sales from outside her store, Sisters of Second Chance. "You have to go out and make sales."Now, Dinah is all for capitalism and she salutes it in all it's many guises. Dinah also loves the fashion. She does find it somewhat odd that a woman who would insist on covering up her fine self from head to toe (including opera-length gloves!) would be selling oils, lotions and potions to keep you "smelling and looking good" when you can't see anything!!!
HUNDREDS of young girls in Britain are suffering genital mutilation at the hands of women paid to come to Britain by their families. African immigrants are clubbing together to pay for practitioners to fly to Britain and circumcise their daughters in highly secretive rituals.
In Britain, female circumcision — or female genital mutilation (FGM) — is illegal, and carries a maximum sentence of 14 years’ imprisonment. The penalty has, however, failed to halt the practice, with thousands of young girls taken abroad each year for that purpose. There has never been a prosecution, although it has been an offence since 1985 with the introduction of the FGM Act. Since 2003, taking a child to another country to have it done has also been an offence. This makes the goofy movie they showed you in sixth grade seem kind of lightweight doesn't it?
Okay, that's the problem right there. Hey fools - it's never 'OK' - got it? And here's why:Detective Inspector Carol Hamilton, an expert in the field, said: “One primary school child was overheard telling her friends that she was going to be taken to her home country and there would be a party, a ceremony, because she was becoming a woman. Police and social services visited the girl’s home. They said they were not stopping the family from going away, but wanted the parents to know that FGM was against the law, that their daughter would be monitored on her return, and they could be arrested if she had had it done. “This particular family didn’t know that it was against the law and took the advice fully on board — many people still think it’s OK if you go abroad.”
The procedure is highly dangerous and leaves many of its victims with health problems throughout their lives. Infections and cysts are commonplace, as are complications during childbirth, endangering both mother and baby. Women who have suffered genital mutilation are twice as likely to die in childbirth and three times as likely to give birth to a stillborn child.
Muzaffarnagar: The court has given her justice but in the lanes of Muzaffarnagar, Imrana Bibi finds no justice and no support.
Even though her father-in-law Ali Mohammad has been convicted a rapist, in her village, Imrana, today, is an outcast.
Imrana's mother-in-law, Zarifa Bibi, is understandably bitter. She says not only has her husband been framed but the whole world is today on the side of a woman who is sly and manipulative.
"She has been wanting the property that we have. She just wanted money. Today she has got that money and left all of us bankrupt,” says Zarifa Bibi.
Her sons are as angry at the allegations that got their father into jail.
"I have been married for a longer time than my brother. I have a wife too. But my father has never touched her. Ask any of the women in this house, has my father ever touched them?" says Imrana's brother in law, Noor Mohammad.
For this family to react so aggressively is natural. But even her neighbours are echoing the same thought.
They point out that the entire family slept in the courtyard where the alleged rape took place and if she was raped and had shouted for help, there was no way the neighbours could not have heard her.
In Chartwal village, people like Rayeez Ahmed have branded Imrana an adultress and a liar. "She has a ‘loose’ character. She had an affair with her brother-in-law as well who would come and spend lots of time with her. This story is all false. She just wanted the property," says Imrana's neighbour, Rayeez Ahmed.
Ostracized, ignored and shunned, there's no support for Imrana Bibi.
Not from her own people and definitely not among the Muslim clergy.
"If she is a true Muslim woman who respects Allah, believes in Islam and the Shariat, she will leave her husband. Otherwise, if she decides she is not a God-fearing Muslim, then what can we say?" says Maulana Mufti Zulfikar from the Shariat court in Muzaffarnagar.
Imrana has been living in her father's house in Kukda village for the last few months. She says if the Darul Uloom of Deoband wants her to leave her husband, she will do so.
There are many explanations to Imrana's story. That it is a property dispute, that she shared an inappropriate relationship with her father-in-law, that she's a wronged woman.
But in the midst of it all, it is the position of the woman in Islamic society that is starkly illustrated.
Monday, activists from all over the world will be focused on a Gwinnett County courtroom as Khalid Adem, accused of cruelty to a child and aggravated battery for allegedly circumcising his daughter, goes on trial. Adem, 30, was charged with aggravated battery and cruelty to children more than three years ago and, if convicted, could face 40 years in prison. He was born in Ethiopia, where circumcision is a common procedure for young girls.
This part of the story makes no sense to me. What mother wouldn't discover this horror for two years?
Police say Adem circumcised his daughter with scissors in his Duluth apartment, while someone else held the girl's legs. Authorities said the circumcision occurred sometime in 2001 but the mother didn't discover it until two years later. The mother told police she learned about it while arguing with Adem about female circumcision. The mother told police that she told Adem she didn't want that to happen to their daughter, but Adem implied the circumcision had already occurred.
Daddy dearest has an answer for that:
Adem has said through his defense attorney W. Mark Hill that he was innocent. Hill said the allegations stem from a bitter divorce and custody battle the couple was going through at the time. Hill has said the family of the girl's mother, Fortunate Adem, also is from Africa and could have performed the circumcision.
But he still might get a break because:
In 2003, there was no state law in Georgia that addressed female circumcision. That's why Adem was charged with aggravated battery and cruelty to children. After her ex-husband's arrest, Fortunate Adem worked with Rep. Mary Margaret Oliver (D-Decatur) to get a law passed outlawing female circumcision. The law was enacted in May 2005. If Khalid Adem had been arrested after the new law was in place, he could have faced an additional 20 years for the genital mutilation charge.
The victim is now 7 years old. It is unknown whether she will testify at the trial.
FYI: According to FORWARD (the Foundation for Women's Health, Research and Developement): It is estimated that approximately 138 million African women have undergone FGM worldwide and each year, a further 2 million girls are estimated to be at risk of the practice. Most of them live in African countries, a few in the Middle East and Asian countries, and increasingly in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, the United States of America and Canada.
"We stopped women from swimming because it is against the teaching of Islam for women to mingle with men, especially while they are swimming," said Sheikh Farah Ali Hussein, chair of a northern Mogadishu Islamic court.
Except when they are banned from the beach of course...
Female students at a new Islamic school will be made to wear head scarves regardless of their religion, it was revealed yesterday. The Madani High School in Leicester will be required by law to accept 10 per cent of its 600 pupils from a non-Muslim background. But girls who are not Muslim will still have to abide by a rule insisting all female pupils cover their heads as part of the uniform. Assistant principal Zainab Elgaziari said he did not regard the demand as a problem - despite the ongoing row over Muslim women's veils. He said: 'I can't see why if a student wears a head scarf it should be an issue. It's the same as a shirt or tie - it's just part of our uniform. 'We will welcome students of other faiths. Indeed, there will be a quota set down by the Government, and we will abide by these rules.
Paris - The agency in charge of Paris-region hospitals on Saturday confirmed that the husband of a Muslim woman examined by a male gynaecologist had physically attacked the doctor, but refused to confirm allegations that the assault was motivated by religious extremism.
DETROIT - Ginnnah Muhammad of Detroit was looking for her day in court. Instead, she said she felt as if a judge forced her to choose between her case and her religion in a small-claims dispute in Hamtramck District Court. A devout Muslim, she wore a niqab - a scarf and veil to cover her face and head except for her eyes - Oct. 11 as she contested a rental car company's charging her $2,750 to repair a vehicle after thieves broke into it. Judge Paul Paruk said he needed to see her face to judge her truthfulness and gave Muhammad, 42, a choice: take off the veil when testifying or the case would be dismissed. She kept the veil on...
Her case was dismissed.
The porno magazines on eye-blitzing display near Independence Hall ran the gamut from slick Penthouse to sleazy CHERI teens. But it was the threatening, handwritten message that seemed to promise rape and worse to anyone who complained about Muhammad Shaukat's newsstand that got city inspectors and legislators on the case of the squat immigrant with poor eyesight and limited writing skills... His sign said, in part, "I gone a f--- his mother, sister, wife or her... who complain my newsstand. Come front of me."..."People were polite to you, giving you an opportunity to provide a service and earn a living," DiCicco said. "For some reason, you thought physical intimidation would make us go away. In fact, what you did, sir, is cause us to make you go away from 6th and Chestnut."

Iran Focus
Tehran, Iran, Oct. 21 – Girls as young as nine are running away from their homes and living on the streets in Iran, according to a classified report issued by the Ministry of Education.
The report was made public by several Persian-language news websites run by former government officials.
It notes that there is an exceptionally high number of run-away girls near Iran’s holy cities of Qom and Mashad.
Iran has one of the highest record of runaway girls and women in the world.
The state-run news agency ILNA reported in July that there were some 300,000 run-away women and girls in Iran and that 86 percent of girls who ran away from their homes for the first time were raped. The majority of such victims are rejected by their families if they choose to return after having been raped.
"The Qods (Jerusalem) Force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) is responsible for extraterritorial operations, including terrorist operations. A primary focus for the Qods Force is training Islamic fundamentalist terrorist groups. Currently, the Qods Force conducts training activities in Iran and in Sudan. The Qods Force is also responsible for gathering information required for targeting and attack planning."

From Iran Focus News. Two years ago some establishments forbade women from smoking on the grounds it encouraged public flirting and mingling between the sexes. However the latest ban is likely have greater force after being approved by the powerful guardian's council, a body of clerics and judges charged with assessing the religious and moral suitability of legislation.
The government is setting up enforcement measures in a broad package that also bans smoking in all public buildings and workplaces and on public transport, and outlaws selling cigarettes to under-18s. People found smoking at work face being docked a month's salary. All advertising and publicity promoting tobacco is to be outlawed. Police will be empowered to fine offenders up to £30 or issue a court summons. The government says that 50,000 Iranians die each year from tobacco related illnesses.
By publicly boasting that he would march into the Sudetenland by October 1 'in any case' Hitler had put himself far out on a limb. He was put in the 'untenable position' which General Beck had foreseen. Had he, after all his categorical threats and declarations, tried to crawl back from the limb on his own, he scarcely could have survived for long, dictatorships being what they are and his dictatorship, in particular being what it was. It would have been extremely difficult, if not impossible, for him to have backed down, and had he tried to do so his loss of prestige in Europe, among his own people and, above all, with his generals would, most likely, have proved fatal.
Chamberlain's stubborn, fanatical insistence on giving Hitler what he wanted, his trips to Berchtesgarden and Godesburg and finally his fateful journey to Munich, rescued Hitler from his limb and strengthened his position in Europe, in Germany, in the Army, beyond anything that could have been imagined a few weeks before. It also added immeasurably to the power of the Third Reich vis a vis the Western democracies and the Soviet Union.'

NAIVASHA, Kenya (Reuters) - A couple caught having sex in a Kenyan mosque during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan have been sentenced to 18 months jail for what the judge called an "abominable" affront to religion. Peter Kimani and Jennifer Wairimu pleaded guilty to the charge of having sex in a place of worship after being caught on October 3 at the Abubakar mosque in Gilgil, about 60 miles north of Nairobi. Neither is a Muslim. A worshipper heading for evening prayers found the couple having sex after investigating what the prosecution described as strange noises emanating from a dark corner of the mosque. Kimani and Wairimu both pleaded for clemency at Monday's hearing, saying they were too drunk to know where they were. Kimani told the court he thought he was in a lodging house. John King'ori, senior magistrate in nearby Naivasha, dismissed their plea. "Having sex in a mosque is a most abominable thing to religion and only a custodial sentence can add justice to this," he said.
A PLANNED conversion to Christianity from Islam is understood to have triggered a frenzied domestic dispute that led to the death of a Muslim mother on Monday night.
Bangladeshi-born Dr Muh-ammad Hussain, 49, remains under police guard in a critical condition in the Gold Coast Hospital as police piece together the circumstances leading to the death of his 41-year-old wife, Yasmine.
Mrs Hussain, who had arrived on the Gold Coast with her 17-year-old daughter at the weekend from Adelaide, died at her upmarket Southport apartment after receiving stab wounds to the chest.
A Muslim source told The Gold Coast Bulletin last night that Dr Hussain arrived a month ago to take up a position as a GP and prepare for his family to join him.
"From what we understand the daughter decided to tell her father of her radical plan to convert to Christianity which, in the eyes of most Muslims, is totally unacceptable and to be honest, sadly, many would react as he has done," said the source.
"It is the Islamic way that if a son or daughter does or plans to do something that is unacceptable or wrong for a Muslim then it is the mother who is automatically at fault and will bear the brunt of the blame."
Gold Coast police last night refused to deny or support the religious conversion motive, but are understood to be investigating it.
They said they had spent more than eight hours speaking to the traumatised 17-year-old daughter and because of her distressed state they still do not have a full picture of what happened.
"It has ended up in the death of a person so it has been a violent argument and a very tragic set of circumstances," said Surfers Paradise CIB Detective Inspector John Hartwell.
Residents of the Smith Street, Albatross Park, complex where the family lived told The Bulletin yesterday they heard screams for half an hour.
"It was very quiet then there was a blood-curdling scream. It was terrible," said Colin Currie.
Neighbour Caitlin Dalton was taking out the rubbish when she heard terrifying screams.
"She (the teenager) was yelling 'help me, help me, they're trying to kill me'," said Ms Dalton.
"Everybody heard the screams but we couldn't work out which unit they were coming from.
"Then this girl emerged in the stairwell hysterical and crying.
"Her clothes had been ripped off, she was just in her underwear, and she had quite severe scratches down her arm and across her back."
Ms Dalton said as residents tried to comfort the girl, she told how she had wanted to 'convert from the Islam religion ... and obviously her father didn't handle it very well'.
"She said her parents were really strict."
Photographs taken by The Bulletin yesterday showed blood splattered throughout the three-bedroom luxury apartment which had a turkish carpet on the floor and leather upholstered chairs.
Clothing could be seen through the doorway, scattered across the floor near what appeared to be bloodstains. A large amount of blood had dried on the wall and on the carpet inside the front door, and there was blood on and around the doorknob.
"We saw one stretcher come out, then another one and another one," said resident Rory Williams.
Det-Insp Hartwell said the Hussains had no family members living on the Gold Coast and police were looking after their daughter, who had turned 17 only a week ago.
"She is assisting police with our inquiries. She is not a suspect, merely a witness to what has transpired," he said.
"Arrangements are being made through Crisis Care for accommodation for her at this stage, pending the contact of the next of kin and relatives.
"At this stage we've been unable to locate the relatives, they're all overseas."
Det-Insp Hartwell said it was too early to say if any charges would be laid against Dr Hussain.
"This matter may end up in a criminal trial or may end up in a coroners court. Before we know the full facts I'm not willing to speculate," he said.
"The outcome of the investigation will determine whether any charges are laid or a report is forwarded to the coroner."
Dr Hussain completed his medical training at the Chittagong Medical College in Bangladesh in 1982.
In 2001, he completed a masters in family medicine in Australia and four years later was granted a fellowship by the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners.
But in the country with a population of more than 130 million, there are less than one million Christians.
It is understood Dr Hussain is a Sunni Muslim.
In an horrific incident of Christian persecution on September 1, some unidentified militants slew two children of a missionary couple who is working with At Any Cost Jesus Mission, a underground ministry evangelizing to the Muslim nations.
A press release sent via e-mail to ANS by Any Cost Jesus Mission said that the assailants torched the dead bodies of teenaged children Shalom, 15 and Sharon 14 after murdering them brutally in the northern district of Pakistan. The teenaged victims according to the press release were secondary school students.
“Shalom and Sharon were kidnapped along with their missionary parents and two other younger sisters 10 days before the murder. The militants asked them to convert to Islam but they refused,” said the press release.
“So the militants killed Shalom first. Then they raped the girl and cut one of her breasts in front of her parents. She too died”, the press release quoted another underground missionary, Habel who it said broke the news to Any Cost Jesus Mission from a hidden place.
Police and the military forces are backing the militants. Habel and his family was also attacked and their house was burnt but the Lord enabled them to escape to a hidden place. They (militants) also demolished a church and some houses were set on fire too”, the evangelization ministry claimed in the press release.
According to the press release the militants set the motorbike on fire by spraying petrol on it and left the dead bodies in a ditch along with a motorbike.
“The police declared a false statement that it was an accident and the petrol tank of the bike was open when they fell into the ditch and burnt by a spark”, alleged Any Cost Jesus Mission.
The press release said that the believers are living in a grip of fear and trouble following the killing of Shalom and Sharon.
The ministry further claimed in the press release that the militants are not allowing believers to pray.
“They are not even allowed to speak a single word about Christ or Christianity or Christians”, the press release quoted Habel as saying.
The tribal people and their leaders are also being murdered by the terrorists in the Neelum Valley, it said.
"COPENHAGEN, Denmark - Videos showing anti-immigrant party members mocking the Prophet Muhammad were pulled from Web sites Monday as two youths seen in the clips were reported in hiding and the Foreign Ministry warned Danes against traveling to much of the Middle East.
Muslim clerics from Egypt and Indonesia condemned the video broadcast in Denmark last week showing members of the Danish People’s Party youth wing with cartoons of a camel wearing the head of Muhammad and beer cans for humps. A second drawing placed a turbaned, bearded man next to a plus sign and a bomb, all equaling a mushroom cloud.
In a move aimed at defusing tension, the Danish Foreign Ministry met ambassadors from Muslim countries to discuss the video Monday. It was unclear how many diplomats took part in the meeting hosted by Foreign Ministry director Ulrik Federspiel or which countries they represented.
Foreign Ministry officials explained to the ambassadors that the government had denounced the drawings and that the footage had been removed from the two Web sites that had posted it, the ministry said...."
"COPENHAGEN (Reuters) - Danish state TV on Friday aired amateur video footage showing young members of the anti-immigrant Danish Peoples' party engaged in a competition to draw humiliating cartoons of the Prophet Mohammad.Hmmm. Is Martin Rosengaard Knudsen is one of the "youths" in hiding? I wonder why? Islam is such a peaceful religion and all.
The video images have surfaced little more than a year after a Danish paper published cartoons of the Prophet that sparked violent protests worldwide.
The images, filmed by artist Martin Rosengaard Knudsen who posed as a member of the party for several months to document attitudes among young members, show a number of young people drinking, singing and drawing cartoons ridiculing the Prophet Mohammad..."
Mass food poisoning of Iraqi police
10 October 2006
Hundreds of Iraqi police officers have taken ill with food poisoning, leading to suspicions that their evening meal had been tampered. Iraq's Prime Minister Nuri al-Malaki has order investigation into the incident at a military base southeast of Baghdad. It's not clear if the poisoning of at least 350 people was deliberate, but police sources say four cooks were arrested on suspicion of tampering with food.
Seddigh, 29, was walking towards her 1600cc Peugeot 206 at Tehran's Azadi stadium when stewards blocked her way, citing "security problems".But it appears that the powers that be have their turbans in a wad over the pretty and petite Lelah. What a surprise that the charter members of the Iranian He-Man Woman Haters Club would not be wanting her fine self to appear on the winner's podium. Get a load of this:
The snub followed days of wrangling with Iran's racing federation over her right to take part in an event she won two years ago on her way to becoming national champion. In the lead-up to the race, she was told her participation was not guaranteed but was advised to register her name. Her registration was passed after technicians gave her car the all-clear.
And if you and your fellow woman haters would join the 21st Century, YOU wouldn't have such problems either, Hossein.Seddigh believes she was banned to prevent her earning enough points to repeat her championship success, which won her international fame but upset Iran's male-dominated religious ruling establishment.
"Most of the federation members were not happy to have a female champion and would have preferred a man," she said. "Since I won, they have even eliminated the winner's podium. They were afraid that I would win again and they would be obliged to show me on the podium."
Seddigh says a Muslim cleric has already issued a fatwa - a legally binding religious ruling - stating that there is no religious bar to women racing against men provided Islamic dress code is observed. She plans to use the fatwa if she fails to persuade federation officials to grant her permission to take part in future races.
The federation's vice-president, Hossein Shahryari, said Seddigh had been barred because of a government circular restricting women to female-only events. That decree has now been lifted, he said.
But he added: "Women are speaking highly of themselves and that causes men who sacrifice their lives in this sport disappointment. Women are not champions in this sport, they are only participants. If they observed Islamic regulations more they would not have such problems."

"There are moments in life when keeping silent becomes a fault and speaking an obligation. A civic duty, a moral challenge, a categorical imperative from which we cannot escape."
