UN probes into Pakistan's radical mosque operation

UN probes into Pakistan's radical mosque operation - saw this headline and thought - finally, the UN is going to investigate the radical Islamists of the Red Mosque.

I was so wrong - silly me. What could I have been thinking? It is the UN after all.

The United Nations has initiated an inquiry into alleged human rights violations in a security operation against a radical mosque in Pakistan's capital Islamabad, media reports said Monday.

The UN rapporteur on extra-judicial or arbitrary executions Philip Alston recently sent a six-point questionnaire to the country's permanent representative at the international organization, Masood Khan, seeking explanation of the July 10 operation at the Red Mosque that killed 102 people, said the Daily Times newspaper citing sources.

'Did the Pakistani government or security forces' engagement with the mosque supporters comply with the international human rights laws?' Alton asked.

The UN rapporteur on extra-judicial or arbitrary executions? How would you like that on your business card?
