The Dance of The Seven Veils

Who's this hot looking Muslima you ask?

Why, it's none other than GINNNAH MUHAMMAD.

Who is Ginnnah Muhammad?

Ginnnah Muhammad is the Detroit Muslim who's recent refusal to lift her veil in small claims court resulted in the dismissal of her case against an insurance company for a $2750 repair bill. See here.

Commenter NG provided a link to the Niqabi Paralegal that addressed the fact that there was nothing in Sharia law that requires a woman NOT to show her face in certain situations, the court room being one of them. That got me thinking, what would lead Ms. Muhammad to refuse to give the judge a little peek - what the heck was under there?

In my reply to NG I posited a few possibilities:

1.) She was ignorant of the scholarly Islamic interpretations?
2.) She was ignorant of the fundamental separation of church and state underpinnings of our system of constitutional governance?
3.) She was using the veil as a political symbol of Muslim power (ala the Black Power salute of the Black Panthers back in the day)?
Well after seeing the above picture over at the Mining Journal I decided I had better add another possible reason...

SHE WAS USING THE VEIL AS A FASHION STATEMENT TO DRAW ATTENTION TO HERSELF.

This theory was strengthened when I discovered this:

Ginnnah is also quite the little capitalist with her shop SISTERS OF THE SECOND CHANCE.
Hitting the pavement helps spur shop's sales: Aromatherapy store in Oak Park had sluggish foot traffic, which led owner to sell elsewhere.
Ginnnah Muhammad learned the basics of running a business in a 12-month course on entrepreneurship, but it wasn't until she opened her Oak Park aromatherapy store nearly three years ago that she learned what it really takes to run her own shop. Her first lesson: Just because your business is open, it doesn't mean customers will come. Slow foot traffic in her office building forced her to look for other venues such as churches, hospitals and community colleges to sell her scented oils, lotions and body salts. "I was hoping people would say, 'Let's give her a chance,'" said Muhammad, 40, who now gets about half of her sales from outside her store, Sisters of Second Chance. "You have to go out and make sales."
Now, Dinah is all for capitalism and she salutes it in all it's many guises. Dinah also loves the fashion. She does find it somewhat odd that a woman who would insist on covering up her fine self from head to toe (including opera-length gloves!) would be selling oils, lotions and potions to keep you "smelling and looking good" when you can't see anything!!!

Visit Ginnah's online store here.

I think it is important to note that Ginnnah's cause celebre is being trumpeted (or is it trumped) by the ever-present CAIR and it's poor, conflicted leader Dawud Wallid. Read more about Dawud and his background here. You can even REPORT AN INCIDENT to them here. (The form isn't active? I guess all the spam got in the way of their trolling for incidents or something.)
