Kofi's Angels!


MONROVIA The United Nation’s first women-only peacekeeping unit, comprising 103 Indian policewomen, arrived in Liberia yesterday, officials said. Ben Malor, spokesman for the UN’s 15,000 strong force in the West African country, said that the women would be stationed in the capital. Members of the group have said they hope that they will be seen as more approachable by women and children in Liberia’s postcivil war conflict zones. (AP)

Bonus Kofi (bring your barf bag): Kofi Annan shares Palme Prize :
Former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan and Darfur human rights activist Mossaad Mohamed Ali have been named winners of the Olof Palme Prize for 2006 for their work to protect human rights, peace and security. The two winners will receive and share the 58,000 euros (£38,300) prize at an awards ceremony in Stockholm in May. Palme was a former Prime Minister of Sweden who was assassinated on February 28, 1986.
