Some good news for a change...

Abu Sayyaf in disarray following death of leader.

The Abu Sayyaf group is in disarray as there is no apparent leader following the death of its chief Khaddafy Janjalani, said Philippine Foreign Minister Dr Elberto G. Romulo. “We have decimated most of their leadership and destroyed the largest training camps set up by (Abu Sayyaf) and Jemaah Islamiah.

“Two foreign terrorists, Umar Patek and Dulmantin, who are Jemaah Islamiah operatives involved in the Bali bombings, are also on the run and believed to be in Sulu, where the military was conducting its operation,” he said in his policy speech at the two-day Sub-Regional Ministerial Conference on Counter-Terrorism here.

Romulo said Abu Sayyaf had lost almost all backing from the local population as the people were tired of war.

He also credited the Malaysian police’s crippling of the group’s financial support network for bringing down Abu Sayyaf, particularly with the arrest of Mohammad Hatta and Burhan Mundus last
year.

Bravo!
