Bhutto Killer avenging Red Mosque pal's death
Freaking psychos.
An Islamic militant who allegedly helped assassinate Benazir Bhutto wanted to avenge a friend who died in the Red Mosque siege, police have claimed.
Husnain Gul and his cousin, identified only as Rafaqat, were arrested last week over the December 27 death of Mrs Bhutto.
The Pakistani politician was killed in a gun and suicide bomb attack at the end of a political rally in Rawalpindi.
Chaudhry Abdul Majeed, leading the murder investigation, told reporters that Gul began preparing for the attack in November.
The officer said Gul's friend had been killed in military operations against Islamic militants holed up inside Islamabad's Lal Masjid, or Red Mosque, in July. About 100 people died in the siege.
Mr Majeed said Gul was involved in three other suicide bombings in Rawalpindi. He continued that Gul and his cousin told investigators details of the plot against Mrs Bhutto.
Based on that testimony, Mr Majeed said police have learned that two assailants were stationed at a pair of gates to the park where thousands of Mrs Bhutto supporters had gathered.
The primary assailant was identified only as Saeed, who was using the alias Bilal.
Mr Majeed said Bilal opened fire with a pistol and then detonated explosives hidden beneath his clothing, fatally injuring Mrs Bhutto.
The other assailant, identified only as Ikramullah, was to have attacked Mrs Bhutto if she had escaped the first blast.
On the eve of the attack, the two suicide bombers spent the night at Gul's home in Rawalpindi, Mr Majeed said.
