Egypt: Ban on protests in/around places of worship

Will it ever become law?

Cairo's upper house, or Shura Council, has unanimously approved a law banning protests and street demonstrations in the vicinity of places of worship, including churches and mosques.

Members of Egypt's banned opposition Muslim Brotherhood - which reportedly controls 20 percent of the seats in the national parliament - often use Friday prayers at mosques to start protests and rallies during government crises.

The new law bans demonstrations inside and in front of places of worship.
