Well, lookee here. In 2004, Obama was up for bombing Iran,
AND Pakistan and was against gay marriage.
This I gotta see.
What?
It's from an article that's been scrubbed from the internet, you say?
Good thing Steve Gilbert and Sweetness and Light are on the job because look what they've turned up.
There is a lot of saber-rattling here. Mr. Obama would attack Iran if they continue with their nuclear program unabated. He would even have the US invade Pakistan and take away their nuclear weapons if Mr. Musharraf were to be overthrown. Both of which sound very much like the kind of "pre-emptive warfare" he now so eloquently and adamantly attacks.
Also, Mr. Obama's remarks that "marriage should be between a man and a woman," might not play so well with the homosexual community he is now so assiduously courting. But, to be fair, this from way back in 2004, when Mr. Obama was merely a lowly Illinois state senator. Not the omniscient being he is today. And thankfully for his campaign, this article has been expunged from the Chicago Tribune's website and from the internet, so nobody will ever hear about his untoward comments.
Hold up! This just in. Obama says Sermon on Mount Ok's same sex unions.
Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) told a crowd at Hocking College in Nelsonville, Ohio, Sunday that he believes the Sermon on the Mount justifies his support for legal recognition of same-sex unions.
Here, in his open letter to the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bi, transvestite) Americans Obama says he's going to use his bully pulpit... funny, there's no mention anything about the Sermon on the Mount here.
As your President, I will use the bully pulpit to urge states to treat same-sex couples with full equality in their family and adoption laws. I personally believe that civil unions represent the bestway to secure that equal treatment. But I also believe that the federal government should notstand in the way of states that want to decide on their own how best to pursue equality for gay andlesbian couples — whether that means a domestic partnership, a civil union, or a civil marriage.
About the Sermon on the Mount
(Also from the Newsmax article and a little reminder for those of us somewhat hazy on the sermon's details. Hah-hah.)
Obama's mention of the Sermon on the Mount in justifying legal recognition of same-sex unions may have been a reference to the Golden Rule: "Do to others what you would have them do to you." Or it may have been a reference to another famous line: "Do not judge, or you too will be judged."
The Sermon, recorded in the Gospel of Matthew, includes the Lord's Prayer, the Beatitudes, an endorsement of scriptural moral commandments ("anyone who breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven"), and condemnations of murder, divorce and adultery. It also includes a warning: "Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves." (ed. note: Hey BHO, sound like anyone you know?)
