Muslim student threatens USAF Terror speaker's life

That's right, folks. The Religion of Peace strikes again.

You are an enemy of Islam and you must die...

Former terrorists Walid Shoebat, Kamal Saleem and Zak Anani addressed cadets at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, during their annual political forum. They shared their experiences as terrorists and helped cadets understand the Islamic fundamentalist mind set.

During the event a Jordanian college student, identified as Omar Khalifa of Metro International, approached Kamal Saleem and spoke to him in Arabic, "you are an enemy of Islam and you must die." The incident was reported to Military Police, who investigated Khalifa's threat.

From Free Republic. It looks like Omar was travelling with a group of Fulbright Scholars and was on Metro International's dime when he went to the USAF Academy to make terroristic threats:

About Shameless CAIR and the event.

Numerous media outlets (New York Times, the Associated Press, The Colorado Springs Gazette, the Rocky Mountain News) did not report on the former terrorists' message, but instead focused on the [inaccurate] media statements distributed by CAIR (Council for American Islamic Relations), in an all-out campaign to discredit the speakers credentials and background.

"We have all been told that Islam has been hijacked by extremists,” said Walid Shoebat. "Yet CAIR, who professes to be ‘Moderate Muslims’ are the Three Ex Terrorists biggest critics, and pull out all stops to try and keep out voices from being heard. I beg to ask the question; if CAIR is indeed moderate as they claim, then WHY are they not supporting our campaign against 'extremists? If they are sincerely against the Fundamentalist Muslim agenda why do they appose us?"

According to the Air Force Academy's public affairs office CAIR spokesman, Ibrahim Hooper, contacted them numerous times criticizing the scheduling of the three men, and requesting an opportunity to have a CAIR representative share with cadets information about the Islamic faith. The Academy informed Hooper that the event was not about religion, but about terrorism, and he denied CAIR's request.

Och! The Scots and Sharia

May the saints preserve us. They've all lost the plot...

Scots faith leaders support Sharia debate

THE CHURCH of Scotland has accused politicians of being too quick to reject the Archbishop of Canterbury’s suggestion that Sharia laws be recognised in Britain.

Dr Rowan Williams, the leader of the Anglican Church, yesterday called for an “accommodation” with parts of the Islamic legal code, but this was immediately dismissed by Number 10 and the Scottish Government yesterday. But Morag Mylne, the convenor of the Church of Scotland’s council, said the Anglican leader was sparking a sensible debate about the role of faith and law.

And challenging a statement from the Prime Minister, she said: “There is a difficulty in saying British law is informed by British values. That begs the question, what are British values?”

Indeed. Stoning, amputations, decapitations, whippings, honor killings, child rape and marriage, and polygamy just to name a few. Are those the kind of values you would like to have "informing" your laws, Morag? Keep it up, dearie and you'll be going around wearing a bag, Morag.

Voter suppression: Pakistani style

No vote for you, Missy!

Husbands seizing their wives voter id cards to keep them from voting - at the behest of party officials...

Men are apparently seizing computerised national identity cards (CNIC) of the women of their families in several districts of Pakistan's Sindh province to stop them from voting in the February 18 elections.

The shock assassination of former prime minister and Pakistan Peoples Party chairwoman Benazir Bhutto provoked a wave of sympathy for the party, particularly in women and in Sindh.

After being told that women sympathise with the PPP, election candidates opposing the PPP in Naushero Feroz, Kashmore, Dadu, Ghotki, Tharparkar and Badin districts asked their voters to seize the CNICs of the women in their families to stop them from voting, sources said on Thursday.

More sharia law in action - Archbishop is this what you really want?

Two held in child marriage case. Four children in protective custody.

Two people, one of them a cleric, were arrested and four children were taken into custody in Hamal village near the Warah town on Friday on charges of arranging marriages of two underage girls to clear an alleged adultery allegation. Four others nominated in the case are still at large.

Warah police took custody of the two would-be child brides – 3-year-old Tasleem and 4-year-old Farzana – and their future ‘husbands’ – Abdul Rasool Mirjat, 10, and Mohammed Saleh, 14.

Deedar Mirjat, father of the boys, and Yar Mohammed Mirjat, the cleric who ‘solemnised’ the marriages on Thursday, have been arrested, and face charges under sections 310-A, 120-B, 102, 103 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code, according to the SHO of Warah police station, Aijaz Massan. He named the other accused as Attur Mirjat, Ghulam Mustafa Mirjat, Hassan Mirjat, Bhooro Mirjat.

Police acted after it was informed that the parents were about to send off the girls after the so-called ‘Nikah’.

About two years ago, Deedar Mirjat had accused Ibrahim Mirjat of having illicit relations with his daughter Nazan, whom he had expelled from his house. About seven months ago, a senior member of the clan, Attur Mirjat, had ‘settled’ the matter by penalising Niaz Hussain and Ali Asghar, the fathers of the two minor girls, and asking them to marry off their girls to the sons of Deedar Mirjat to compensate for their son’s perceived misdeeds.

The SHO said he had no clue about the whereabouts of Ms Nazan and Mohammed Ibrahim who were at the centre of the dispute. The matter received wide publicity after the Supreme Court took action on its own and summoned the people involved in the case. Parents of boys and girls had both denied their involvement in the matter, saying that the girls were in their homes. They also denied that a jirga had been held to settle the dispute.

But the issue resurfaced after police was informed that the girls were about to be ‘sent off’ as ‘brides’.

Iran envoy defends Sharia amputation

Like getting rid of gangrene. That's all. Really.

Iran's ambassador to Spain has compared chopping off the hands of thieves to a "surgeon amputating a limb to prevent the spread of gangrene".

In a defence of Iran's tough implementation of Islamic law, Seyed Davoud Salehi called for "the traditions, religion and economic development" of Iran to be taken into account by those monitoring human rights in the country. He also argued that the death penalty was necessary "to preserve the health of society as a whole".

Mr Salehi said during a speech in Madrid that the highest court in Iran had decided to limit public executions to prevent images of hangings and stonings in public squares being broadcast around the world and used as propaganda against the regime.

"Our laws allow for the amputation of the hand that steals. This is not accepted by the West, but the field of human rights should take into account the customs, traditions, religion and economic development," he said in comments reported by the newspaper El Mundo.

"Some laws are needed to preserve the health of society, if not, it would be in danger."

Up close and personal - with Sharia law

My sentence was reduced to beheading.

Sandy Mitchell has terrifying first-hand experience of being on the wrong side of sharia law. Mr Mitchell, 52, was falsely accused of being involved in a car bombing in Saudi Arabia in 2000 when he was working there as an anaesthetic technician.

He was held in prison for three years and tortured until he eventually signed a confession, which he later had to read out on Saudi television.

A sharia court sentenced him to having his head partially severed, followed by public crucifixion. The sentence was later reduced to beheading, before the Saudi authorities finally conceded that al-Qa'eda terrorists had planted the bomb and let Mr Mitchell return home to Halifax, West Yorks.

Yesterday he accused the Archbishop of Canterbury of "betraying" Christians with his comments on Islamic law. He said Dr Rowan Williams clearly had "absolutely no concept of what sharia law is", because if he did, "he wouldn't have made such a foolish statement".

Mr Mitchell, a practising Christian, added: "I would like to see Dr Williams apologise to the people he is supposed to represent - the Christians in this country. His job is to serve the Christian community, and most of the Christian community will feel offended and betrayed by his comments.

"Sharia law is completely incompatible with a civilised society and I'm sure if Dr Williams had time to study it properly he wouldn't have been so stupid as to make the statements he has."

Sharia courts in the UK - now they're 10 of them

Sharia law already enforced in 10 courts
(snip-snip)

Extremists were said to have used the spread of sharia courts to justify calls for Islamic law to be adopted "wholesale" for Muslims living in Britain.

Anjem Choudary, a solicitor and former senior figure in the banned organisation Al-Muhajiroun, said: "Some element of family law or social and economic law will not work. It has to be adopted wholesale. It will not happen tomorrow but it is inevitable because sharia is superior and better for mankind."

Omar Bakri Mohammed, the former leader of Al-Muhajiroun, who is banned from entering the UK, said: "If sharia law were introduced it would have all kinds of benefits. It would get rid of drinking, night clubs, casual sex, homosexuality, prostitution, gambling and usury."

Aydarus Yusuf, a youth worker, told Radio 4's Law in Action programme that he felt more bound by sharia law than by the laws of his adopted country.

"Us Somalis, wherever we are in the world, we have our own law,'' he said. "It's not sharia, it's not religious, it's just a cultural thing.''

Sometimes it's hard to be a woman

Especially if you live in Basra. The situation has worsened since the Brits have pulled back.

Boldly splattered in red paint just outside the main downtown market, a chilling sign reads: "We warn against not wearing a headscarf and wearing makeup. Those who do not abide by this will be punished. God is our witness, we have notified you."

133 killed last year - and those were the ones that were reported.

The images in the Basra police file are nauseating: Page after page of women killed in brutal fashion -- some strangled to death, their faces disfigured; others beheaded. All bear signs of torture. The women are killed, police say, because they failed to wear a headscarf or because they ignored other "rules" that secretive fundamentalist groups want to enforce.

"Fear, fear is always there," says 30-year-old Safana, an artist and university professor. "We don't know who to be afraid of. Maybe it's a friend or a student you teach. There is no break, no security. I don't know who to be afraid of."

Her fear is justified. Iraq's second-largest city, Basra, is a stronghold of conservative Shia groups. As many as 133 women were killed in Basra last year -- 79 for violation of "Islamic teachings" and 47 for so-called honor killings, according to IRIN, the news branch of the U.N.'s Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

Read it all.

The Audacity of Race: Black Hitler Hearts Obama

Farrakhan endorses Obama.
(snip)
Farrakhan said that if Obama was avoiding controversial black leaders like himself, Rev. Al Sharpton, and Rev. Jesse Jackson for fear of alienating white voters it would be an acceptable price to pay for an Obama victory.

"If avoiding me would help him to become president, I'd be glad to stay in the background, because of the taint that's on the minister," he said.

Farrakhan became leader of the Nation of Islam in 1977, and since then he's inflamed many -- accusing whites of being devils created by an evil scientist, describing Judaism as a dirty religion and referring to the Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler as "wickedly great."

The few, the proud, you know...

Idiots.

No Goa Zone - On Terror alert

Let's see. Sandy beaches. Louche living. White women in bikinis. Explosives from Pakistan. Cell leader is a doctor. Disco targeted. I don't know. It sure sounds like the Religion of Peace to me.

An alert has been sounded in Goa and police have intensified checking to track possible terror plots in the tourist hot spot, Chief Minister Digamber Kamat said yesterday. The move follows the arrest of a suspected militant in Karnataka who had allegedly confessed about his plans to strike in Karnataka and Goa. The militant had reportedly said that he could not translate his terror plans into action as he failed to receive a consignment of 50 kgs of RDX explosive from Pakistan.

"We have sounded an alert all over the state and security has been strengthened," the Chief Minister said. He said that the police department is carrying out checks to trace the possible terror links.

"According to our information, militants had visited Goa thrice just to survey the coastal areas and crowded places," Naik said. The State Government has sought complete details of the case and further comments could be made only after obtaining them, Naik said.

However, highly placed police sources said that the militants had the famous North Goa's Calangute-Baga beach belt in their hit list. The sources also said that a famous discotheque in the sea belt was a target.

Naser and Asadullah also admitted that they had links with Afghan leader Mullah Omar, who told them to get more youths to Afghanistan for terrorist training. Omar is believed to have told them that he would give them Rs 10 lakh as reward for every youth brought for training. The sources said Naser and Asadullah might be taken to Bangalore on Wednesday for narco-analysis. The Honnali JMFC has granted permission to subject the duo to narcoanalysis.

The one that got away:

Another suspect, SIMI Karnataka chief Adnan alias Shafi, is believed to be a vital link to the terror network of Naser. Adnan is said to have given the police the slip and escaped with a huge cache of arms and ammunition.

Looks like the explosives got away, too.

The RDX consignment was allegedly smuggled to Hubli from Bangladesh by terror suspects Riyazuddin Naser alias Mohammed Ghouse and Asadullah Abubaker for triggering explosions across the State. This information was given by the two suspects interrogated by the CoD here.Top sources told Deccan Herald that the RDX consignment might be hidden in the forests of Kalghatgi. The CoD team searched the area within 20 km radius of Kalghatgi, including at Hazrat Sayyed Diwana Shah Wali Baba Dargah, Ganashettykoppa tank area and a temple situated in the forests, the sources disclosed.

And the Doctor? He ain't in the house, either.
Police launched a massive search for Mohammed Baig, reportedly the kingpin of the terror network in Karnataka. Baig, a medico suspected to be working for the banned SIMI even while studying Medicine at the Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) at Hubli, had gone underground last week.

On January 29, Baig was detained by Hubli Police and released after questioning on his alleged links with terror organisations.

His name was revealed during interrogation of LeT Suspects Riyazuddin Naser alias Mohammad Ghouse of Hyderabad, Asadullah Abubakar of Hospet and Mohammed Asif of Hubli.

The duo claimed Md Baig was the kingpin of the terror network in Karnataka.

It's LeT (Lashkar-e-Toyaba).
Riyazuddin Naser alias Ghouse, one of the suspected militants arrested recently in Karnataka, has reportedly confessed that he was recruited by Lashkar-e-Toyaba (LeT) to undertake terror activities in parts of the country and underwent training in Muzaffarabad, capital of Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK).

Archbishop of Sharia shocked (!) at Sharia row

"Genuinely taken aback."

The Archbishop of Canterbury is said to be overwhelmed by the "hostility of the response" after his call for parts of Sharia law to be recognised in the UK.

Friends of Dr Rowan Williams say he is in a state of shock and cannot believe the criticism from his own Church.

Believe it, buckwheat.

Bhutto's party disputes Scotland Yard findings

You had to see this one coming.

The Pakistan People's Party disputed the report by Scotland Yard that found Bhutto died after hitting her head due to the force of the explosion and not from an assassin's bullet."There is no point supporting this point of view," party spokeswoman Sherry Rahman told Adnkronos International (AKI)."I was with Bhutto when she was attacked and I personally witnessed the bullet mark in her head."

Only the UN will do, thank you very much. (Like the UN has ever lifted a finger to stop terror.)

Sherry Rahman said only an investigation by the United Nations would be considered reliable by the leaders of the Pakistan Peoples Party.President Pervez Musharraf has dismissed the demand for a UN-led probe in Bhutto’s killing.“If we take the government’s claim that Bhutto’s killing was done by al-Qaeda then a probe through the UN is essential because al-Qaeda is an international terror network,” Sherry Rahman told AKI.

In other Bhutto news, Bhutto's husband tried to stop Swiss financial probe into accounts.

Sharia law in the UK - criminal cases, too?

From the Daily Mail.

Sharia law "courts" are already dealing with crime on the streets of London, it emerged today.

The Archbishop said parts of civil law could be dealt with under the sharia system but already some communities have gone much further - and it was revealed today that a teenage stabbing casYouth worker Aydarus Yusuf, 29, who was involved in setting up the hearing, said a group of Somali youths were arrested by police on suspicion of stabbing another Somali teenager.

The victim's family told officers the matter would be settled out of court and the suspects were released on bail.

A hearing was convened and elders ordered the assailants to compensate the victim.

"All their uncles and their fathers were there," said Mr Yusuf. "So they all put something towards that and apologised for the wrongdoing."

An Islamic Council in Leyton also revealed that it had dealt with more than 7,000 divorces while sharia courts in the capital have settled hundreds of financial disputes.

Yep.
Along with the Islamic Council in Leyton, there are reports of at least two other sharia courts sitting in London.

There are also courts in a number of other areas of the country with high Muslim populations, including Dewsbury in West Yorkshire, Birmingham and Rotherham, South Yorkshire.

Sharia Law...in Texas???

WTF? Looks like Texas is getting messed with.
(From those fine young cannibals over at the Jawa Report.)

Assalam aleikum, y'all!

The Second Court of Appeals of the State of Texas has rendered a ruling on the enforceability of shari'a judgments rendered by imams. According to the Texas appeals court, it's all good.
You've heard of the Texas Courts. Ladies and gentlemen, make way for the Texas Islamic Courts!!!

The parties will ask the courts to refer the cases for arbitration to Texas Islamic court within "Seven Days" from the establishment of the Texas Islamic Court panel of Arbitrators. The assignment must include ALL cases, including those filed against or on behalf of other family members related to the parties. Each party will notify the other party, Texas Islamic Court, and their respective attorneys, in writing of the assignment of all the above Cause Numbers from the above appropriate District Court to Texas Islamic Court.

The crux of the problem:

In general, private arbitration agreements are enforceable by government courts. Shari'a arbitration agreements are one type of private arbitration agreement. Without a theory as to why shari'a arbitration agreements shouldn't be enforced by the courts, I'm not sure what else the appeals court could have done in this case.

Still, this is not a welcome development.

Damn straight!

Uppity Coffee Woman lectured Neil Bush on the joys of being a girl in Saudi

In Kumbayah: T-boned by reality Miss Aurora over at the Midnight Sun has the follow up to the American woman arrested over in the Magic Kingdom for having a cup of coffee with a man.

Yara, who does not want her last name revealed because of safety concerns, is a managing partner at a Saudi financial company. She went to hear Bush speak, and she said she invited him later to tour her company’s offices, to give him a sense of what life was really like for women living in the capital. “I was boasting about Riyadh, telling him it doesn’t deserve its bad reputation,” she said. “I told him I never experienced any harassment. I’d had no trouble as a woman. It was business as usual.”

I found this from the article interesting and worth noting, ladies. FYI -if you go to an OPEC country and get in trouble with the mutaween, it's KMAG YOYO* for you, babe.

And her family is furious that the American Embassy hasn't done more to support her.

An embassy official said her case was being treated as "an internal Saudi matter" and would not offer further comment.

And this is soooooo Starbucks, isn't it?

Starbucks was waiting to learn more about the facts surrounding the incident, a company spokesman said. “Starbucks was very concerned by reports that a customer was asked to leave one of our stores and arrested,” said Brandon H. Borrman, a spokesman for the company.

“Starbucks takes pride in respecting different cultures, and as a global company with locations in 44 countries, we recognize that religious customs, social norms and laws will vary among the communities where we work,” he said.

That multi culti mumbo jumbo and 50 cents won't even buy you a cup of coffee, Brandon.
And about Yara now? It's no coffee for her - she's been a little jumpy since the whole thing went down.

She is taking medication to treat post-traumatic stress while she recovers from her ordeal at her family's home in Jeddah. "Thank God they did not harm her more," said her husband, Hatim. "The psychological impact is beyond description," Hatim said. "She's normally a very calm, stable woman. Now she's afraid to leave our compound."

Afraid to leave their compound? Good, because according to the Saudis that's where she should have been all along. Uppity woman.

*KMAG YOYO ( Kiss my ass, Gladys. You're on your own.)

Calls for Archbishop of Sharia to resign

(and get a decent barber for God's sake!)

A senior Church of England clergyman called today for the resignation of the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, over his remarks supporting Sharia in England. The call, from a long-standing member of the Church's governing body, the General Synod, demonstrated the strength of the backlash Dr Williams that faces from within his own Church — as well as from political and other faith leaders.
The senior Synod member, who insisted on remaining anonymous, told The Times: "A lot of people will now have lost confidence in him. I am just so shocked, and cannot believe a man of his intelligence could be so gullible. I can only assume that all the Muslims he meets are senior leaders of the community who tell him what a wonderful book the Koran is.
"There have been a lot of calls today for him to resign. I don't suppose he will take any notice, but yes, he should resign."

Unfortunately, it doesn't appear likely. It sounds like he would have to get caught diddling an 11 yo boy in Harrod's front window before any action would be taken - and that's not a lock by any means.

Although the means of forcing an archbishop out of office are so costly and arcane — short of his committing a criminal act, he could never be made to go — the row represents the most serious threat to the authority of his office since he became Archbishop five years ago.

Other statements on Moslems by the learned Bishop include:
In an interview last year with Emel, a Muslim lifestyle magazine, he accused the US of wielding its power in a way worse than Britain at the peak of the Empire, compared Muslims in Britain to the Good Samaritans, and praised the Muslim ritual of praying five times a day. He also said terrorists “can have serious moral goals” and argued that the 9/11 terrorists should not be called evil.

Bollywood comes back to Pakistan

Happy days are here again.

The Pakistan government is poised to lift a 43-year ban on the import of movies from India. This will mean that some time soon Pakistanis will be able to watch the latest Bollywood movies on the big screen ... The ban on Bollywood movies was imposed in 1965, following the India-Pakistan war that year. But movies continued to be smuggled into Pakistan. Video parlors and shops stocked pirated DVDs and CDs, catering to the massive appetite of Pakistanis for Bollywood films. They could watch the latest movie less than a week after its release in India. But they had to make do with watching pirated CDs and VCDs of Bollywood films at home. That meant missing out on the full experience of Bollywood masala (spice).

But guess who's not happy about it? If you guessed the Moslem Jihadists you guessed right!

Even less welcoming will be Pakistan's jihadis and religious conservatives, who frown on Bollywood's song-dance culture. Pakistan's religious conservatives have even opposed the sari, not only because it is regarded as "Hindu" but also because it - in their eyes at least - reveals too much of a woman's body. These apprehensions resulted in the sari being banned during the military dictatorship of General Zia ul-Haq in the 1980s. Now, the conservatives will have to contend with more - Bollywood's rain-drenched women in see-through saris, the "item numbers" and so on.

Cue the Moslem Rage Machine.

OBL's successor named: His 16 yo son, Hamza

Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden's youngest son Hamza is being groomed to take over from his father as leader of the terror network, says former Islamist Yemeni militant, Muhammad Sayd.

"Young Hamza bin Laden, son of Osama, has been chosen to lead the al-Qaeda organisation in the future," said Sayd, who has been close to the al-Qaeda leader in the past. "I have met Hamza several times and the last time was 20 days before the '9/11' attacks. He is a very religious boy, he learnt the Koran by heart at a young age and has been educated in Jihad (Holy War)," Sayd told Al-Arabiya, the Saudi-backed based in the United Arab Emirates.

"When I met him, he already knew who to used light weapons and how to escape from guerrilla attacks," Sayd said, adding that Hamza writes poetry.

Hamza is well placed to take over his father's job in the future, Sayd said."He is the only son by Osama' s Saudi wife, and has always had a different education from the other children," he said.

Sayd claimed Hamza is used to a spartan existence and is able to face the difficulties of such living conditions. "He loved the simple life, unlike his brother Omar, who decided to return to Saudi Arabia [the bin Ladens' homeland] and has now married an Englishwoman," he said. "I have also met Omar... he is different from his brother and never liked the spartan life. He chose to return home to Saudi Arabia to be with his uncles."

The alleged presence of another of bin Laden's sons, 28-year-old Saad in Afghanistan is no obstacle to the succession of Hamza, according to Sayd, who claims Saad has never been considered his father's heir to al-Qaeda. Hamza's name has been in the news in recent days, after Britain's Sunday Times newspaper published excerpts from slain Pakistani opposition leader Benazir Bhutto's memoirs in which she accused him of being one of the people who were seeking to assassinate her.

Omar bin Laden and his second bride. Nuff said.

The Audacity of Terror 2: Terrorist lawyers heart Obama

Not only do we have Radical Muslims for Obama, now we have terrorist attorneys for Obama, too.

More than 80 attorneys who have been offering free-of-charge legal services to Guantánamo detainees issued a statement Monday supporting Democrat Barack [Hussein] Obama’s presidential bid.

”We are at a critical point in the presidential campaign, and as lawyers who have been deeply involved in the Guantánamo litigation to preserve the important right to habeas corpus, we are writing to urge you to support Senator Obama,” the lawyers said in an open letter dated Monday.

NZ: Plane Hijacker subdued.

Aloha Snackbar.
A 33-year-old woman has been arrested after she allegedly caused 20 minutes of mid-air terror, stabbing two pilots on a flight from Blenheim to Christchurch and threatening to blow up the plane.

Ethnic Affairs Minister Chris Carter says Somali community leaders are "appalled" that someone from their community was responsible for the incident on a flight from Blenheim to Christchurch this morning. "Members of the Somali community are concerned that today's events will cause other New Zealanders to judge all Somalis by the actions of just one person," he said. "They don't want to see their community stigmatised by this serious incident."
No word on if the hijacker was just plain crazy or just plain Moslem. Sounds like she was just plain crazy.
A taxi driver says the woman involved in a mid-air stabbing of two pilots seemed "vague" early today when he took her to Blenheim airport.
The taxi driver, who identified himself as Colin, told Newstalk ZB: "She was a wee bit vague.
He described her as "away with the fairies".

Benazir Bhutto: The Sunroof did it.

The NY Times is reporting:

Investigators from Scotland Yard have concluded that Benazir Bhutto, the Pakistani opposition leader, died after hitting her head as she was tossed by the force of a suicide blast, not from an assassin’s bullet, officials who have been briefed on the inquiry said Thursday.

Of course, it wouldn't be the NY Times without this:

It is unclear how the Scotland Yard investigators reached such conclusive findings absent autopsy results or other potentially important evidence that was washed away by cleanup crews in the immediate aftermath of the blast, which also killed more than 20 other people.

Or this:

The findings are certain to be met with widespread skepticism, especially from Mrs. Bhutto’s supporters who blame the government for her death, in particular Mr. Musharraf and the leading politician of the party that backs him, Pervez Elahi. They also are unlikely to calm the turmoil in the country now that the 40 days of mourning has ended.

Iranian space odyssey: Pride of the Islamic world.

If this wasn't so serious it would be hysterically funny. Listen to this guy:

Shiite religious authority Mohammed Hussein Fadlallah on Thursday praised Iran's space missile as a "pride for the Islamic world" and accused the United States of seeking to prevent Iran from becoming a 'scientific and industrial state."

Fadlallah made the remark after receiving Iran's ambassador to Lebanon Mohamed Reza Shibani.

The state-run National News Agency said the two discussed developments in Lebanon and the region and "scientific progress in Iran"."The negative U.S. stand on this test (Missile) exposes the real reason for the American stand on the Iranian nuclear issue," Fadlallah said.

The United States "seeks to prevent Iran from turning into a scientific and industrial state … the issue is not related to concern about Iran becoming a military nuclear power," Fadlallah added.

Are Russia and France coming around to the idea of Iranian nukes not being such a good idea after all?

France says Iranian rocket cannot work in space.

France said on Thursday an Iranian rocket Tehran says is intended to put a satellite into orbit is in fact a missile that cannot navigate in space, and added to concerns that the technology is aimed at making weapons.

On Monday, Iran launched what it said was a rocket designed to carry a locally-made research satellite. The know-how required to make rockets can also be used to produce missiles, but analysts have been divided over the launch's significance.

Washington, Iran's arch-foe, reacted by saying Tehran's missile-testing was unfortunate. Russia, which has closer ties, said the launch raised the suspicion that Iran was seeking nuclear weapons, an allegation that Tehran denies.

Meanwhile, this is what the US did in space today.

Speaking of squirming...

Archbishop roundly criticized for sharia comments.

Leading politicians have distanced themselves from the Archbishop of Canterbury's belief that some Sharia law in the UK seems "unavoidable".

Gordon Brown's spokesman said the prime minister "believes that British laws should be based on British values".

The Tories called the archbishop's remarks "unhelpful" and the Lib Dems said all must abide by the rule of law.

His Moslem overlords are pleased:

Mohammed Shafiq, director of the Ramadhan Foundation, welcomed Dr Williams's comments, saying they "further underline the attempts by both our great faiths to build respect and tolerance".

Ibrahim Mogra, of the Muslim Council of Britain ... added: "Let's debate this issue. It is very complex. It is not as straight forward as saying that we will have a system here."

Ooh! I am loving this one: Red Ken in hot water over Moslem joke

And it couldn't have happened to a better dhimmi...

London Mayor Ken Livingstone faces controversy today after it emerged he made a joke about Muslims in a magazine interview.

Mr Livingstone was asked by a journalist to tell a joke and responded with a story that name-checked Satanic Verses author Salman Rushdie, Yasser Arafat and Shia Muslims in general.
According to today's Evening Standard, Mr Livingstone made the joke during his first mayoral campaign in 2000 in an interview for the now-defunct magazine The Face.

Journalist Alex Needham asked him: "Can you tell us a joke?"

The then independent candidate responded with a gag in decidedly dubious taste.

(editor's note: sez who?)

"Salman Rushdie was on a train and it pulled into a station," said the future mayor.

"He saw Yasser Arafat and his entourage of bodyguards and was so overcome with the emotion of seeing his great hero, he raced to embrace him.

"But the bodyguards weren't very well versed in modern literature and had no idea who he was.

"So they shot him dead, thus proving the value of that old adage: never go for a Shi'ite while the train is in the station."

ba-da-bump. Let's watch him squirm out of this one.

UK: Is "Sharia Law" unavoidable?

According to the Archbishop of Canterbury it is...

This does not make my day. And is it just me or are things getting more and more nightmarish in the UK everyday? As always, I am saved by the comments sections and my hope that England will survive lives for another day. (Update: Hope is flickering... Queen sells landmark to Dubai Fund)

Here's a sampling:

Actually the archbishop is right, muslims should not have to choose between cultural or state loyalty, if they don´t like the UK laws they can always go to one of the lovely and luxurious countries that does follow sharia law.

When can we start making Islam illegal in the UK?

Well Done Sir, how about a separate law for hindus, jews, pagans, vegies , druids, etc ? thats gonna be fun!

Seeing how the Bishop of Rochester received death threats after criticising Islam in Britain recently (thus proving he was right) perhaps, in saying this nonsense, the Archbishop of Canterbury is just trying to avoid the same fate?

So Muslims get to choose which law they wish to obey then do they? What about the rest of us, can we choose which law we want to abide by? Personally, I choose the American constitution. Then I have the right to bear arms and defend myself and my property rather than rely on an impotent police service scared of 'offending' minorities.A far simpler way to deal with these intruders would be to make Halal meat illegal. Back in their own country they wouldn't have to make such 'stark choices'.

As the archbishop feels that British Law has been created for Christianity and we should also introduce Islam-influenced Sharia Law, as a non-religious person can I choose to abide by no laws?

What sort of question is this? More utter nonsense from Rowan Williams and the BBC. Adopt Sharia Law! Are you out of your minds?

Pakistan: Baitullah Mehsud declares unilateral ceasefire

AKA hudna. I call bull shi& on this one.

Tehrik-i-Taliban chief Baitullah Mehsud declared a unilateral ceasefire in South Waziristan on Wednesday after the security forces started vacating positions in some key places.“Since the army has minimised the scale of operations, the Taliban shura decided to halt activities across the country for an indefinite period,” Maulvi Umar, Mr Mehsud’s spokesman, told Dawn by phone.“No, there is no secret deal with the government. This is our unilateral decision,” the spokesman said in reply to a question whether militants had struck a fresh deal with the security forces.Mr Umar said the shura meeting that endorsed the truce was held at a secret place.

Army spokesman Maj-Gen Athar Abbas said: “The Army has not received any formal announcement regarding a ceasefire. Troops have not stopped the operation and it will continue till all strategic objectives are achieved. “We are waiting and monitoring the situation. It could be a strategic move by the militants.”In reply to a question about the army’s objectives, he said all hideouts and positions of the militants would be wiped out. Sources said the army had started vacating positions in several areas, including Nawaz Kot and Kotkai, which had been captured after a pitched battle.

Grand jirga called to negotiate with terrorists - oops, I mean militants.

The government has decided to form a “grand jirga” to work out a peace agreement with tribal leaders in Waziristan. Among the chiefs the administration plans to negotiate with is Baitullah Mehsud.

“The government, in collaboration with a jirga consisting of influential and local people from the Fata and the Frontier regions, would soon take measures for sustainable peace in the tribal areas,” caretaker Interior Minister Lt-Gen (retd) Hamid Nawaz Khan told journalists during a briefing.

“The demand of initiating a peace process was made by the Mehsuds, who are on the run after being crushed by the security forces in Waziristan,” he added. The minister told Dawn the resilience of the security forces had forced the militants to retreat. “Definitely there should be a stage when the militant groups are bound under an agreement that they would not become a threat to the country and its people.”

He said in Waziristan, Fata and Swat, the government had broken the back of militants. “They are on the run now.”Sources said security forces had cut off the supply line of Mehsuds from three sides — Jandulla, Razmak and Wana. The interior minister said the jirga would consist of representatives from all tribes, including Mehsud, and political leaders, who would act as guarantors if an agreement were clinched.

He said the tribals had entered into a number of peace agreements in the past, but they violated them.

Things that make you go hmmm.

From Jihad Watch. Midnight Explosion in Tampa Gas Station, Muslim employee killed.

No, I am not saying this was jihad-related. So why am I posting it? The facts are these: a 22-year-old mechanic with a name that may indicate he is a Muslim, an employee of the gas station, returns for a reason no one knows to the gas station after midnight. There is then a huge explosion there, in which he is killed, and the FBI is investigating. This one is, as they say, one to watch.

"Gas station fire kills one in Tampa," from
MyFoxTampaBay (thanks to Cumulus Nine):

Tampa Fire Rescue crews say one person was killed in a fire at a gas station early Wednesday morning. Crews say witnesses reported hearing an explosion and then seeing flames as high as the treetops coming from the Citgo Gas Station on West Busch Boulevard just after midnight. Two men who worked across the street from the gas station saw what was happening, and ran to help. They say they found a man lying inside the garage area of Jacob's Lube Repair Shop, which is attached to the gas station. They say they ran inside, but the flames were just too intense. [...]

When firefighters pulled the man from the burning building, they say he was already dead. He was later identified as Farid IA Karakra, a 22-year-old mechanic who worked there. Coworkers told investigators he left work around 7:30 p.m., but they're not sure why he would have returned. [...]

Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the fire. On Wednesday morning, agents from ATF, FBI and the Tampa Bomb Squad were also at the scene, possibly looking into the cause of the explosion.

The Audacity of terror: Radical Muslims heart Obama

Why am I not surprised by this?

With its similarity to popular online sites such as Facebook and MySpace and its links to a network of grassroots blogs, Barack Obama’s campaign website has been hailed as a testament to the candidate’s transformative politics. But at least part of the senator’s online outreach, “Muslim Americans for Obama ’08,” proposes installing Muslim prayer areas in public places and giving Muslims time off for prayer and has denounced Obama’s colleagues in the U.S. Senate who happen to be Jewish. This segment of Obama's online outreach also has ties to unindicted co-conspirators in terror trials and has recruited Obama supporters from among the ranks of fundamentalist Muslim extremists.

Read it all. It names names.

Talk about balls!

Fatwa issued, Muslim tennis player avoids play in India.

She gives two fingered salute to Moslem demands she cover up.

Indian tennis player Sania Mirza has disappointed fans by pulling out of all of her home tournaments this year due to the controversy they generate. The 21-year-old has declared she was advised by her manager not to take part in the Bangalore Open next month because of the criticism she encounters when playing in India.

"A lot has been happening in the last few months, everytime I have played in India there has been some kind of problem so we just thought it was better not to play at this point," the star told reporters in Hyderabad on Monday.

As a Muslim player, Mirza has reportedly been condemned by Islamic groups over her attire on the court, with her short tennis skirts coming under particular scrutiny.

The star has become something of a flag-bearer for Muslim sportswomen, being seen last year playing in T-shirts bearing slogans of defiance such as "Well Behaved Women Rarely Make History". "As long as I'm winning, people shouldn't care whether my skirt is six inches or six feet long," she said at the time.

But she has also revealed that she has sometimes thought about ending her playing career.
In December the star was forced to apologise after filming an advert near a historic mosque in Hyderabad, where she is from.

In 2005, after Mirza became the first Indian woman to win a WTA tour event, she was the subject of a fatwa issued in India by a senior cleric of the Sunni Ulema Board, a little-known group.

The demand to cover up was not the first however, but none have ever gained popular support from the country's 130 million Muslims.

Indian tennis chief Anil Khanna has reportedly called for Mirza, who broke into the top 30 ranked players in the world last year, to be left alone so that she can prepare for an attempt at an Olympic medal this year.

First, it was the teddy bear...now it's the soccer balls!

Moslems miffed again! Bent out of shape like Mohammed Beckham.

The Bangladesh government says it's banned the sale of soccer balls inscribed with a Koranic verse to avoid offending the faithful in the mainly Muslim country. The move came after hundreds of people held angry protests in the capital, Dhaka, at the weekend. The government says the marketing of such footballs is an outrageous and contemptuous act, which has hurt the sentiments of devout Muslims. An official investigation has also been launched into how the balls were imported and sold in the country.

More South African Nuke Hanky Panky

Wrists slapped, sentences suspended.

The Pretoria High Court sentenced Swiss engineer Daniel Geiges to 13 years' imprisonment yesterday for his involvement in the illegal import, export and manufacture of components relating to nuclear equipment and material. But Judge Willie van der Merwe suspended the sentence for five years, in accordance with a plea bargain struck between Geiges and the state.

He agreed to the confiscation of 50000 and Sf74000 in cash, which had been frozen by Swiss authorities. Geiges further agreed to provide statements exhaustively detailing his knowledge of all matters relevant to nuclear proliferation.

In September, his co-accused , German national Gerhard Wisser, was given a suspended sentence as well; also after a plea bargain . And like Geiges, Wisser consented to a confiscation of his overseas assets, worth R2,8m and R6m in cash. He pleaded guilty to the manufacture of systems for a Libyan gas centrifuge plant between 1999 and 2003; the import and export of a flow-forming machine; and the manufacture and export of three autoclaves. He also admitted to the forging of documents to make the exports appear lawful.

Their trial was supposed to have started in July last year but the state was unsuccessful in its appli cation to close the trial to the public entirely . It had argued that there was a need to protect the release of sensitive information, which might compromise national and international security. The Pretoria High Court dismissed the state's application in May but said a court could be cleared at certain stages of the proceedings.

Both Geiges and Wisser were arrested in 2004, on charges of contravening the laws on nuclear power and weapons of mass destruction. Their arrests were connected to the activities of the Abdul Khan network and its procurement efforts for Libya and Pakistan. In 2004, Khan, a Paki-stan national, confessed to having been involved in a clandestine, international network of nuclear-weapons technology proliferation in Libya, Iran and North Korea.

Hillary's idea of troop support

Last night I listened to Hillary Clinton wax eloquent about how if she were elected president she would give the US troops "the support they deserve"...

I wonder. Support like this?

NY Times spins USAF Academy Terror Confab.

CAIR dissembles, scholars tremble and the Old Gray Lady is more upset about the speakers being "evangelical Christians" than about their being terrorists. Notice the hue and cry that is raised when the truth about Islam and terror is spoken?

The Air Force Academy was criticized by Muslim and religious freedom organizations for playing host on Wednesday to three speakers who critics say are evangelical Christians falsely claiming to be former Muslim terrorists.

The three men were invited as part of a weeklong conference on terrorism organized by cadets at the academy’s Colorado Springs campus under the auspices of the political science department.

The three will be paid a total of $13,000 for their appearance, some of it from private donors, said Maj. Brett Ashworth, a spokesman for the academy.

The three were invited because “they offered a unique perspective from inside terrorism,” Major Ashworth said. The conference is to result in a report on methods to combat terrorism that will be sent to the Pentagon, members of Congress and other influential officials, he added.

Members of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation, a group suing the federal government to combat what it calls creeping evangelism in the armed forces, said it was typical of the Air Force Academy to invite born-again Christians to address cadets on terrorism rather than experts who could teach students about the Middle East.

“This stuff going on at the academy today is part of the endemic evangelical infiltration that continues,” said David Antoon, a 1970 academy graduate and a foundation member.

The three men were invited to talk about being recruited and trained as terrorists, not religion, although one of them, Zak Anani, did tell students that converting to Christianity from Islam saved his life, said John Van Winkle, another spokesman for the academy.

Muslim organizations objected to the fact that no other perspective about Islam was offered, saying that the three speakers — Mr. Anani, Kamal Saleem and Walid Shoebat — habitually paint Muslims as inherently violent. All were born in the Middle East but Mr. Saleem and Mr. Shoebat are now American citizens, while Mr. Anani has Canadian citizenship.

“Their entire world view is based on the idea that Islam is evil,” said Ibrahim Hooper, a spokesman for the Council on Islamic American Relations. “We want to provide a balancing perspective to their hate speech.”

Academic professors and others who have heard the three men speak in the United States and Canada said some of their stories border on the fantastic, like Mr. Saleem’s account of how, as a child, he infiltrated Israel to plant bombs via a network of tunnels underneath the Golan Heights.

No such incidents have been reported, the academic experts said. They also question how three middle-aged men who claim they were recruited as teenagers or younger could have been steeped in the violent religious ideology that only became prevalent in the late 1980s.

Prof. Douglas Howard, who teaches the history of the modern Middle East at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Mich., heard Mr. Saleem speak last November at the college and said he thought the three were connected to several major Christian evangelical organizations.

“It was just an old time gospel hour — ‘Jesus can change your life, he changed mine,’ ” Mr. Howard said. “That is mixed in with ‘Watch out America, wake up America, the danger of Islam is here.’ ” Mr. Howard said his doubts about their authenticity grew after stories like the Golan Heights saga as well as something on Mr. Saleem’s Web site along the lines that he was descended from the grand wazir of Islam. “The grand wazir of Islam is a nonsensical term,” Mr. Howard said.

Keith Davies, the director of the Walid Shoebat Foundation, which organizes their appearances, said critics tried to undermine the speakers’ reputation because “they can’t argue with the message.”

Arab-American civil rights organizations question why, at a time when the United States government has vigorously moved to jail or at least deport anyone with a known terrorist connection, the three men, if they are telling the truth, are allowed to circulate freely.

A spokesman for the F.B.I. said there were no warrants for their arrest.

(A defense of the use of the term Grand Wazir of Islam can be found here. If the Times could use google they could have discovered it... but that would have added a "balancing perspective" to their reporting. Clearly, to the NY Slimes balance only matters when it comes to Moslem terrorists and their sniveling apologists.)

Kenya: Kofi bugs out of peace talks

He's livid!

Kofi Annan leaves peace talks in limbo after his hotel room is bugged.

Former U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan may walk away from Kenya's peace talks after his security detail discovered his hotel room in Nairobi was bugged, according to a report.

Sources at the Serena Hotel, where the talks are taking place, said Annan's security detail became wary of his safety after discovering that his personal conversations were being intercepted, South Africa's Independent Newspapers reported.

Who may have planted the listening device and how long it was there remain unclear, the Independent reported.

Annan is said to be "livid," but it is not yet known whether he will walk away from the already troubled negotiations.

Having a cup of coffee with man lands woman in jail

How about a strip search with your Caramel Macchiato? Well ladies, if you're in Saudi Arabia and you have the temerity to have a cup of coffee with a man that's what you'll get. At Starbucks, no less. (h/t Aunty Dhimmtude. IOU a Venti Latte, Milady!)

A Saudi mother of three, who works as a business partner and financial consultant for a reputable company in Jeddah, didn’t expect that a trip to the capital to open the company’s new branch office would have her thrown behind bars by the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice.

Yara, a petite 40-year-old woman, was in tears yesterday after she narrated to Arab News her encounter with a commission member that ended in high drama.

Yara, who has been married for 27 years, said she spent several hours in the women’s section of Riyadh’s Malaz Prison, was strip-searched, ordered to sign a confession that she was in a state of “khulwa” (a state of seclusion with an unrelated man) and for hours prevented from contacting her husband in Jeddah.

Her crime? Having a cup of coffee with a colleague in a Starbucks.

Yara said she arrived in the capital yesterday morning from Jeddah to check on the company’s new office. “The minute I came into the office my colleagues told me that we have an issue with the electricity company and that we do not have power but that it would be back on in half an hour,” she said. As they were waiting, they decided to go to the ground floor of the building to have a cup of coffee in the family section of Starbucks. Family sections are the only places where men and women can sit together in establishments in Saudi Arabia. Officially, these sections are for families only, but in practical terms these sections — usually in international chains like Starbucks — become the only places where unrelated men and women can be comfortable that they won’t be harassed by commission members.

But yesterday Yara and her colleague found themselves in trouble with the commission. One moment they were sitting together discussing brand equity and sovereign wealth funds; the next moment she found herself in commission custody. Shortly after they took their coffee and Yara opened her laptop, a member of the commission approached the two and demanded the man step outside. “Then (the commission member) came to me and said: ‘You need to come with us. This man is not a relative,’” she said.

When she told the commission member that she wanted to contact her husband by phone, he refused.

“I am the government,” Yara quoted him as saying. He then ordered her to come with him.

It gets worse from there. Read it all.

Too bad, so sad. Sit there, sisters.

Irish woman, daughter caught in Gaza after Egypt seals border.

"Admit they came in illegally, but want to come back in legally."

An Irish woman and her daughter who sneaked into Gaza across a breached border were stuck in the territory Wednesday, unable to cross back into Egypt. The pair had distributed $11,270 among needy Gazans and wanted to return to Egypt late Tuesday, but they were stopped by Egyptian border guards. Treasa Ni Cheannabhain, 56, said she entered Gaza on Saturday, more than a week after Hamas militants knocked down the border wall separating Gaza and Egypt. As hundreds of thousands of Palestinians flooded into Egypt, Cheannabhain used the opportunity to sneak into Gaza with her 19-year-old daughter to distribute money to Gazans.

Cheannabhain is married to an Egyptian physician, and her daughter, Naisrin el-Safty, is an Egyptian national, she said. "I admitted I entered illegally, but we want to come back in legally," Cheannabhain said in a telephone interview from the Gazan border town of Rafah.

About the lovely Treasa and her daughter:

They are card carrying members of the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign. And are also supporters of the "Hands off the People of Iraq" movement.

Charming, no?

I smell a PR stunt.

Keith Ellison to speak at funeral of dead Islamist

From Militant Islam Monitor:

Today, Congressman Keith Ellison will be the main speaker at a memorial for the deceased leader of the Minnesota chapter of the Muslim American Society (MAS-Minnesota), Hesham Hussein. Hussein was killed in an auto accident in Saudi Arabia, on Saturday, January 26th.

While Congressman Ellison speaks, the organization Hussein led will be using the internet to propagate violent hatred against Jews and Christians.
Statements such as “In view of the degenerate moral condition of the Jews and the Christians, the Believers have been warned not to make them their friends and confidants.” and “If you gain victory over the men of Jews, kill them.” are currently featured on the MAS-Minnesota website.

Also scheduled to speak at the memorial will be the Assistant Chief of the Saint Paul Police Department, Dennis Jensen. Joe Kaufman, Chairman of Americans Against Hate (AAH) stated, "It is wrong for any official to speak at a memorial for a leader of a hate group, whether it be the Ku Klux Klan or the Muslim American Society. We call on these officials to cancel their appearances."

One more thing about the Muslim American Society:

The government also stated that another organization, the Muslim American Society (MAS) was “founded as the overt arm of the Muslim Brotherhood in the United States.” This appears to be the first time the US government has officially described the true origins and ulterior agenda of the Muslim American Society.

A complete dossier on their activities can be found at Steve Emerson's Investigative Project.
(A pdf file worth keeping)

Some more mischief from CAIR and their Islam-o-buttbuddies, the MAS:

CAIR and MAS Freedom Foundation had offered amicus, or friend of the court, briefs for the pending appeal of Sabri Benkahla, convicted in 2007 of perjury and obstruction of justice.

Benkahla was part of a group of Northern Virginia men who trained to fight with the Taliban against the United States. He was acquitted of supplying services to the Taliban but later convicted on the perjury and obstruction charges and sentenced to 10 years in prison. That sentence included a "terrorism enhancement" after the trial court found his false statements impeded a terrorism investigation. In seeking court approval to file their supportive briefs, CAIR and MAS said they were specifically concerned about the sentencing enhancement. It is "being applied to punish Muslim scholars and activists as if they had committed terrorism crimes," CAIR's motion states, and that could chill political speech and activities.

The Brit's two-fingered problem in Afghanistan

Remember the Afghan expulsion of two British diplos several weeks ago? They were accused of having 'secret talks' with the Taliban and summarily bounced from the country. Denials were issued, but it looks like there was definitely more to the story. This from the Scotsman:

SECRET British plans for a Taleban training camp in southern Afghanistan are behind a spectacular diplomatic spat that has seen Anglo-Afghan relations plummet to an almost unprecedented low.

Afghan officials claim the camp for 2,000 fighters was part of a top-secret deal to make the insurgents swap sides. The plans were discovered on a computer memory stick seized by Afghan secret police in December. The Afghan government claims they prove British agents were talking to the Taleban without the president's permission. The British insist president Hamid Karzai's office knew what was going on. But Mr Karzai expelled two top diplomats, linked to the plan, amid accusations they were part of a plot to buy-off the insurgents.

The row was the first in a series of disagreements. Since then Mr Karzai has blocked the appointment of Paddy Ashdown to a top UN job in Kabul and has blamed British troops for losing control of Helmand province.

Last week the president's political mentor, Sibghatullah Mojaddedi, endorsed a death sentence on a student journalist, Sayed Pervez Kambaksh, for blasphemy, and two British contractors have been arrested in Kabul on trumped up weapons charges. Experts see it as deliberate "two fingers" to the British.

More at the link.

(I take it that "two fingers" is comparable to the middle finger here in the States? According to wICKipedia it is: The V sign, when the palm is facing toward the person giving the sign, has long been an insulting gesture in England and later in the rest of the United Kingdom, as well as in Ireland and parts of France. It is frequently used to signify defiance (especially to authority), contempt or derision and is often accompanied by the phrase 'fuck off'.)

Huh. The things you learn....

Wikipedia shows insensitivity towards Muslims. sniff-sniff.

Online Petition seeks removal of Muhammed images from Wikipedia

An article about the Prophet Muhammad in the English-language Wikipedia has become the subject of an online protest in the last few weeks because of its representations of Muhammad, taken from medieval manuscripts.

In addition to numerous e-mail messages sent to Wikipedia.org, an online petition cites a prohibition in Islam on images of people. The petition has more than 80,000 "signatures," though many who submitted them to ThePetitionSite.com remained anonymous.
"We have been noticing a lot more similar sounding, similar looking e-mails beginning mid-January," said Jay Walsh, a spokesman for the Wikimedia Foundation in San Francisco.

A Frequently Asked Questions page explains the site's polite but firm refusal to remove the images: "Since Wikipedia is an encyclopedia with the goal of representing all topics from a neutral point of view, Wikipedia is not censored for the benefit of any particular group."
The notes left on the petition site come from all over the world.

"It's totally unacceptable to print the prophet's picture," Saadia Bukhari from Pakistan wrote in a message. "It shows insensitivity towards Muslim feelings and should be removed immediately."

God forbid we "hurt Muslim feelings"although it is important to note that Muslim suicide bombers hurt more than feelings.

Laissez Les Bon Temps Roulez

Throw me something, Mister!

Dinah comes to you today from NOLA where she is getting ready to go pick up her beads and take them over to her float for the Krewe of Iris parade. It was raining cats and dogs last night so all the parades were cancelled and rescheduled for tonight. We plan on attending Hermes, the Krewe D'Etat, and my friend Lady G's personal favorite, the Krewe of Muses, the only all-female Krewe to parade at night.

Let the good times roll!
