Live Earth non-update.

Via Mark Steyn over at the Corner:

I don't know about the rest of the gang but I was kinda looking forward to spending the weekend doing cracks about rock stars taking their private jets halfway round the world to tell the little people why they need to sell the second-hand Honda Civic and get back on the bus. But to be honest my heart's not in berating the rock colossi for their carbon footprints of clay.

The way this thing's going it looks like, thanks to Al Gore, all-star charity galas will be joining the polar bears on his endangered species list.

I want to bequeath the wonders of this earth to the next generation, but I worry that my grandchildren will never know the feeling that you've totally demonstrated your tremendous concern and commitment to taking action just by going to a concert and staying until halfway through the George Michael set when he started doing stuff from the new album. I worry that my grandchildren will never know the thrill of being hectored by Bono and Bob Geldof, and that many already rare species will simply vanish from the earth - Seventies supergroups who've not yet had a long-awaited charity-gala reunion, hot young acts who haven't had the chance to cover 'Imagine' with the lights down and everybody in the stadium holding disposable lighters, Eighties girl groups who've not yet reunited for a Playboy shoot, the last three celebrities who haven't duetted with Elton John, bald-headed Eagles doing the 50th anniversary performance of 'Hotel California'...

On the other hand, if Cat Stevens goes down well, Jihad Aid might have legs.

What? Mahmoud's not ready for his close up?

From Kamangir:

Mehdi Kolhar, Ahmadinejad’s media adviser, said “Ahmadinejad rejected Oliver Stone’s request [to make a film about Ahmadinejad]”.

He said “I sent Dr Ahmadinejad’s rejection to Oliver Stone because even though he is in the opposition in the states, but even the opposition in the states is a part of the big satan”.

He added “We believe that the American movie-production system does not contain any element of culture or art and is only a tool”.

“I must add that Dr Ahmadinejad was personally against this”. He concluded, “However, it is very clear why Stone asked for doing the movie. He [Ahmadinejad] is an appealing figure in the world and the Americans always look for what can return their investment”.

Hey Hollywood! You're all capitalist tools... (h/t Gateway Pundit)

Oliver keen to make film on Ahmadinejad

From Mehr News. Oliver is keen to make film on Ahmadinejad

Oscar-winner Oliver Stone has sent a letter to the Iranian president’s office requesting permission to make a docudrama on President Mahmud Ahmadinejad, stated an Iranian producer who is regularly consulted by the president’s art and cultural advisors. The request was made three months ago by Stone, the famous U.S. filmmaker, who has directed numerous films with socio-political themes over the past few years,” Alireza Sajjadpur told the Persian service of the Iranian Students’ News Agency on Friday. I think it is a good proposal and I would like the request to be accepted,” he added.

Oliver Stone is among the film directors who have been against the warmongering policy of the U.S. He has made a film about Fidel Castro which has generally been well received and I found it interesting.” As far as I know, it takes time to receive a response to such a request and the president’s office is considering it.”

A Mighty Heart Farce...

Youssef Ibrahim on A Mighty Heart.

If I were a Muslim who had just watched "A Mighty Heart" in a theater in Dearborn, Mich., Karachi, or Cairo, the only impressions that I would probably be left with is that the man got what he deserved and that Karachi is really one hell of a messy place. Beyond that, I would not have a clue that my Muslim compatriots had anything to do with it.

Hamid passes pipe to Canadian Public Safety Minister.

He takes a big hit and then calls the report of a wave of AQ suicide bombers heading to Canada and the US a "PR move". All in the interest of public safety, I guess. Can't get the sheeple spooked. Day downplays warning 300 suicide bombers to target West, including Canada.

US Homeland Security takes a quick toke and then chimes in with a pr move of their own: Homeland Security Official: No imminent threat - that we know of.

The reporters in the room must have gotten a contact high over at alJazeera magazine. It sounds like they forgot to write the rest of the story in their report. And it's like they had too much fun then crashed and burned in the Western media. They pretty much ignored the whole thing!

Who know's what John Edwards was thinking smoking when he came out with that American "bumper sticker' theory deal about the War on Terror. Good luck with that one, John. I don't think its working out so well for you. Just sayin'. That and consorting with Danny Glover on the campaign trail. The same Danny Glover who is making movies with Hugo Chavez (he got paid $18 mil for the first one) and is on the board of Hugo's tv station. The same station who has hooked up with al Jazeera to beam out anti-democracy messages across Latin America.

Note to John Edwards: Lay down with dogs, get up with fleas...

Edwards charges $55,000 to speak to UC Davis students about poverty

This is like candy to me...
Edwards charges $55,000 to speak to UC Davis students about poverty

Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards, who as a Democratic presidential candidate recently proposed an educational policy that urged "every financial barrier" be removed for American kids who want to go to college, has been going to college himself -- as a high paid speaker, his financial records show.

The candidate charged a whopping $55,000 to speak at to a crowd of 1,787 the taxpayer-funded University of California at Davis on Jan. 9, 2006 last year, Joe Martin, the public relations officer for the campus' Mondavi Center confirmed Monday.

That amount -- which comes to about $31 a person in the audience -- included Edwards' travel and airfare, and was the highest speaking fee in the nine appearances he made before colleges and universities last year, according to his financial records.

The earnings -- though made before Edwards was a declared Democratic presidential candidate -- could hand ammunition to his competition for the Democratic presidential nomination. The candidate -- who was then the head of the Center on Poverty, Work and Opportunity at the University of North Carolina -- chose to speak on "Poverty, the great moral issue facing America," as his $55,000 topic at UC Davis.

That could cause both parents and students to note some irony here: UC Davis -- like the rest of the public University of California system -- will get hit this year by a 7 percent tuition increase that likely hits many of the kids his speeches are aimed at helping.

We wondered if this is Edwards' going speaking rate, and how come he didn't offer to do it gratis for a college, particularly a public institution.

Multi-culti at Cannes and beyond...next stop your neighborhood

Films for the good dhimmi....

Paris Je T'Aime premiered at the Cannes Film Festival last year, and later played at the Toronto International Film Festival. The film opens in New York City on May 4, and later across other US cities. According to Chadha, there are also plans to bring the film to India.

Chadha's film, Quais de Seine, is set in the fifth arrondissement. Chadha, who co-wrote the script with Berges, narrates the story about a young French man who takes fancy to a beautiful Arab girl in hijab. They talk briefly about the hijab, and then the girl leaves for a mosque.

The boy follows her.

When she comes out of the mosque, her grandfather accompanies her. The film could have ended on a sad note, but the grandfather asks the young man to walk with them. It is a sweet, romantic film, shot in beautiful daylight, with an upbeat ending.

"Unfortunately that's not what we do," Chadha said with a laugh, when asked whether she considered ending the film on a sad note. "We always end on a hopeful note," she smiled, preparing to give birth to twins -- a boy and a girl -- later this summer. "We are always looking for the optimistic." (and not show the part where Grandpa beats the girl and then her brothers kill her in an honor killing.)

"I think the majority of ethnic people in Europe are like that," she added, referring to the grandfather character in her film. "It's a question of tolerance. But he's not saying you two are going to be together. He is saying, 'We are going this way, walk with us.' That was very important, saying 'Come and find more about us. We are not separate from you. Come and walk along our path and see what we are about.'"

Judge who issued warrant against Gere transferred.

Is this the Indian version of being sent to Siberia?
New Delhi: A judge who issued an arrest warrant against Richard Gere for publicly kissing an Indian actress has been transferred from his job, a media report said yesterday. Judge Dinesh Gupta, a magistrate in the northwestern city of Jaipur, had issued arrest orders last week for both Gere and actress Shilpa Shetty after the kissing incident at a public Aids awareness event in New Delhi in March.

The Times of India reported yesterday that Gupta was transferred from his post in Jaipur to the small town of Kishangarh several hours away. The paper quoted High Court Commissioner C.P. Singh as saying the transfer was "routine", but he noted that the order came from a state chief justice. Officials could not immediately be reached for comment.

Scaredy Cat Stevens: Nervous of Beards

but it makes him LOOK so 'masculine' and 'virile'. From AKI:
British-born former pop star Cat Stevens, who changed his name to Yusuf Islam when he became a Muslim, has confessed that beards can be scary. "Even I get nervous when I see someone with one! If I don't know who that person is," said the bearded singer and activist, quoted by independent music and entertainment website, contactmusic.com.

'Some of these people I know them...':

He worries facial hair on young Muslim males has in recent years become unfairly associated with terrorism, admitting: "It's true that some beards look a bit frightening. Some of these people, I know them, they look ferocious. The beard happens to give a masculine look, a more virile appearance, but what goes on behind it, well, I'm an example, if you listen to my music. Yes I had a beard as Cat Stevens but now I have grown wiser and my beard is longer," he said.

Here's what Fullosseous Flap's Dental Blog and The Jawa Report had to say about that knowing 'some of these people' back in November 2006.

Hey Tourists and Nancy Pelosi! You're included in Iran's fashion crackdown.

We hear San Fran Nan might be firing up her big jet (Carbon footprint be damned!) to head off to Tehran. She better be paying attention. Remember Richard Gere, after all:

From Iran Focus:
Tourists not exempt in Iran dress crackdown: police

Iran on Monday warned tourists and other foreigners visiting the country to obey its Islamic dress code in line with a nationwide crackdown against slack dressing, the ISNA news agency reported. "We have asked travel agencies to warn tourists and to explain the laws of this country," said Tehran's deputy chief of police, Hossein Sajedi-Nia. Iran has handed out more than 10,000 warnings over the past 10 days to women deemed to have infringed the dress code in the Islamic republic, and dozens of others have been briefly detained at police stations. Sajedi-Nia indicated there was no chance of a let-up in the crackdown, a regular pre-summer measure being pursued with extra vigour this year, saying that from next week "plain clothes police will go into action." Women must cover their heads and conceal their curves in public in Iran. The law also applies to members of non-Muslim minorities and all visiting foreigners.

Oh really?
The head of Iran's police force, Esmaeel Ahmadi-Moghadam, said that the crackdown on clothing was not a temporary measure and would continue for the sake of personal security for women. "At the moment, women are unable to go in peace to public baths, swimming pools or hotels," he said, referring to an acknowledged problem in Iran where women are often secretly filmed and photographed without their knowledge.

Paging Alec Baldwin. Paging Alec Baldwin.

While daddy dearest Alec is turning his back on his daughter, Ireland, his stellar Hollywood career and is championing his book on Father's Rights perhaps he can ponder this?

From deseretnews.com:
Many Muslim men become deadbeats

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) — Many Malaysian Muslim men who divorce their wives are ignoring their responsibility to provide for their children because the Islamic legal system fails to punish them, a women's rights group says.

Sisters In Islam said women who were unable to get their ex-husbands to pay child support comprised nearly one-third of the 214 complaints it received in the first three months of 2007, adding that those cases constitute "only a small fraction of what is happening."

"Mothers are forced to beg from their children's fathers so that their children have sufficient food, clothing, shelter and education," the group said in an April 21 statement.

Sisters In Islam said Malaysia's Muslim women are suffering a lack of legal protection in a wide range of issues such as polygamy, where men who take multiple wives sometimes neglect the economic and emotional welfare of their families. Some Muslims interpret Islamic teaching as allowing a man to marry up to four women.

The Islamic Shariah Court is the legal authority in disputes involving families, morality and religion for Muslims, who form nearly 60 percent of the 26 million people in Malaysia, which has Buddhist, Christian and Hindu minorities.

Gere apologizes for obscene act.

Gerbil accepts. (That's a joke, son.)

It looks like Richard Gere has kicked off his apology tour. Will
rehab be far behind?

This from the
BBC:

Actor Richard Gere has apologised for causing offence when he kissed Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty. Gere, 57, said he had misread Indian customs and that he regretted any problems he had caused Shetty. He asked for the "media circus" to end and hoped it would not detract from the message of preventing AIDS.

Doesn't sound too apologetic on the Daily Show. Must be saving the melodrama for Oprah. Hmm, if he hurries he might still make it onto the View before Rosie leaves...

Speaking on The Daily Show With Jon Stewart, the actor said the situation as "nothing". "There is a very small right-wing, very conservative political party in India and they are the moral police in India... they do this kind of thing quite often," he said. A judge had ordered Shetty to appear in his court on 5 May, saying she did nothing to resist the kiss, which he called "highly sexually erotic".

A lecher and a gentleman... extra crispy.
Gere said Shetty was not to blame for the incident. "I've felt terrible that she should carry a burden that is no fault of hers," he said. Public displays of affection are still largely taboo in India, and protestors in Mumbai (Bombay) set fire to effigies of Gere following the incident.
In other Shetty news, Shilpa set to sell poppadums at Shilpa Shetty Dining Halls.

India may arrest Richard Gere for PDA

Remember this?

Well, it looks like Richard is in hot water with the Indian government for laying one on Bollywood actress, Shilpa Shetty.
A court issued arrest warrants for Hollywood actor Richard Gere and Bollywood
star Shilpa Shetty on Thursday, saying their kiss at a public function "transgressed all limits of vulgarity," media reports said
.

The Kingdom takes on Takfeer

The menace of fanaticism.
The Kingdom has recognized the dangers of radical fanaticism to our society and has publicly launched a zero-tolerance drive to rid itself of the threat posed by those spreading the message of “takfeer”, which labels anyone not following their interpretations of Islam as non-Muslim.

Funny how the Saudis are getting around to fighting the War on Terror at the time the Defeatocrats are saying it doesn't exist
Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah is to address the Shoura Council today. Undoubtedly, a portion of his speech will touch upon the government’s war on terror. Along similar lines, Prince Naif, the minister of interior, stated last week that the government’s battle against extremism would broaden in scope to include those clerics who are found guilty of spreading militant messages among the youth, and directing them toward the path of intolerance and subsequent violence.

Funny how the Saudis are calling on the media to assist them in this fight against radical islam while the Defeatocrats wouldn't think of such a thing (ed. note: Come to think of it neither has George Bush, grrr!)
The media and cultural agencies must do more in confronting the phenomenon of terrorism, by rooting out terrorist ideology and addressing social and international factors that promote terrorism,” was the statement attributed to them by the official Saudi Press Agency.

Funny how the Saudis are starting to speak out against the threat of radical islam, while the Defeatocrats kowtow to radical imams and do everything but kiss their a$$ in Macy's window. Religious edicts (fatwas) were being issued by self-appointed clerics on everyday matters coupled with threats of hell and damnation, and some radical teachers infiltrated our schools to poison young and impressionable minds. There is no denying that this held our country back when it should have moved forward.

Funny, how the Saudis are calling on the public to do their duty as well. And the Defeatocrats? Why they are all for allowing 'John Does' who report suspicious behavior to be sued.
It is time the public joined the campaign against extremism and put a stop to the message of fanaticism.

It's a crazy world we're living in, folks.

Rosie, you are really starting to piss me off.

Okay, I know that the show is called The View and I'm all for free speech and all that, but really! Enough is enough.

Tehran Rosie you are becoming a menace to society with your lies and scurrilous accusations. I would bet cash money that you have NEVER EVEN BEEN TO 7 WTC and I sincerely doubt whether you ever even made it to the Twin Towers.

I have.

The company I used to work for had it's head shed at 7 WTC and I spent many an hour there. I can tell you that its close proximity to the Twin Towers made it a sitting duck. Have a couple of 110 story office towers fall down on top of you and see what happens, Rosie pie
.

Read Popular Mechanics response to Rosie's ill-informed rant.

And then tell the man that really needs to know what you think about Rosie what YOU think.

robert.a.iger@disney.com

Then go over to MNM and look at a great night time shot of the Towers.

Man, I sure miss them in the skyline.

Not even Mia Farrow dare say it's name...

Another piece about Darfur that completely ignores the 800 lb gorilla in the room.

Mia Farrow leads plea for state divestment from Sudan.

Farrow showed slides depicting burned villages, hungry refugees and the paramilitary groups blamed for the deaths of 400-thousand people and the displacement of two (m) million others.

How about calling a Muslim a muslim here, Mia? (I will give you points for calling Steven Spielberg the "Leni Riefenstahl of the Beijing Games". )
